  1. He's still just 24, so there is definitely a chance he's still going to improve. Seems to be extremely consistent over his career too. Not sure why the Sox would tray to pry him away though, unless they think this is a buy-low opportunity? I don't really see the fit, especially since it would almost have to cost pitching.
  2. This weekend is going to be brutal. I think the Sox would be lucky to get 1 from the Twins.
  3. I’d love to go get Greinke. Plus you have the possibility of Rodon later in the year. That would help eliminate the need to depend on the Covey/Detwilers of the world.
  4. Asking prices must be through the roof. There's a lot of decent arms that could/should be available.
  5. I remember sitting in my car listening to it on the radio in the parking lot outside of Elmhurst College’s Admin building. I had a meeting with them to talk about transferring in the following semester. Ended up being almost 30 minutes late because of that 9th inning.
  6. There’s absolutely no reason to push Kopech and risk further injury. If that means shutting him down in the second half than so be it. I would follow a similar plan to how the Nationals handled Strasburg following his TJ. He appears to have been limited to 159 IP.
  7. It seems like he's hitting 98 now too? I always thought he was a 93-94 guy, but I keep seeing twitter updates that his velo has increased and he's even able to maintain it late. He's a nice surprise this year for sure. Almost helps make up a little for the injuries to Dunning and Lambert.
  8. I don't see any reason they couldn't figure out a way to make them like the NFL Field Goal nets behind the uprights. At the very least, the areas directly behind the dugout should have some type of retractable netting for the kids.
  9. Abreu currently has a wRC+ of 109. That means he's technically only 9% better than league average. Don't let the HR's fool you. Yes, he's been a fixture for the Sox lineup, but he is dangerously close to having a sub-.300 OBP. He is far more valuable to the Sox than any other team right now due to what he provides the clubhouse.
  10. Hard pass for me.Russell literally has zero value right now. Even with ignoring all the wife-beating baggage, he has been bad this season and has some serious work ethic concerns IMO. Guy probably does need a change of scenery, but I sincerely hope it is far away from the South Side. Chatwood is nothing but a lateral move along with trading cost-controlled assets to simply acquire Marquez. There are plenty better guys to go after, especially when the Cubs are near the bottom in farm depth.
  11. He’s more of a fit than not. His influence and leadership he can provide to Robert alone in his first year will be worth it alone. Eloy and Moncada have both praised Abreu this year for helping them make the transition. He can stay in the same role he’s in this year as a 1B/DH, until Vaughn challenges him most likely in 2021. Plus if I’m not mistaken, rosters will be up to 26 starting next year, so it’s not a waste of a roster space.
  12. I can’t imagine the Red Sox are seriously considering trading Beinentendi. His value is down, and he’s low cost controlled. Even if it was a serious possibility, I’m not sure it really makes much sense for the Sox to land him considering what it is going to cost to get him. He’s mostly used as a LF/CF, and that’s arguably the most locked down positions right now for the Sox.
  13. Multiple. I figured it would be cool to have looking back 10, 15, 20 years from now and see who ended up having a major league career and who busted. Still room for Collins and Vaughn too.
  14. I've got quite a bit too. My favorite would be: - custom mounted display case with 25 individually signed 2005 WS baseballs by each member of the active roster in the series Couple others: - signed Chicago Tribune sports section front page of A.J. getting punched by Barrett by Pierzynski. - the "Perfection" Buehrle poster signed by Buehrle, Wise, and Castro - 2005 WS Team Baseball with: Guillen, Konerko, Dye, Pierzynski, Iguchi, Contreras, Garland, Crede, Jenks, Blum, Harris, Everett, Podsednik, Hernandez, & Rowand - my 'Rebuild Ball' of all the prospects including: Jimenez, Cease, Giolito, Lopez, Kopech, Robert, Fulmer, Moncada, Burdi, Burger, Madrigal, Rutherford, Basabe, Adolfo, & Sheets - HOF Baseball signed by Thomas.
  15. I went with Bellinger. Left-handed power bat that could play 1B/CF/RF/DH.
  16. Agreed. McCann should help him out a ton. He'll get there, we just need to have patience. Going to be interesting next season having Gio, Lopez, Cease and Kopech all in the rotation. We might want to prepare ourselves for some growing pains.
  17. Sure, PB are not a great stat to base a catchers defensive skill on, but look at his career. He is terrible compared to other catchers minor league stats. If you don't want to believe me, fine, but google him and see for yourself what the consensus is on him. From an Eric Logenhagen FG chat on 6/28/19:
  18. Just because a guy can throw hard doesn't make them a good catcher. Just google him. There are plenty of reports saying he is well below average behind the plate. Believe Y2Jimmy0, he's a DH. Just look at this year alone - 13 PB in just 45 games at catcher. Collins, who everyone also says is a future 1B, has just 3 in 32 games.
  19. Cordero has actually put up some good numbers in Charlotte.
  20. A lot of new names. Honestly a little surprised Basabe fell so far. I figured some of the injuries he’s had would have been taken into consideration.
  21. I don’t think anything Stone said was necessarily wrong. People should try to have a patient outlook at the way the rebuild is developing. That doesn’t mean you should not be critical either. I actually think this team has shown more growth this year than any of the previous ones, despite all the injuries throughout the system. The injuries to Jimenez, Anderson, and Rodon just point out the lack of depth right now, which is something that can be addressed as the team gets closer to their competitive window. I really dislike the house analogy he uses. I don’t think you can compare something like that to a fluid rebuild. Rebuilds are not linear IMO. There are absolutely ups and downs. I have serious doubts whether this FO can get to the finish line, but in their defense, they have surprised the hell out of me throughout the process. Robert signing was unheard of at the time. Eloy’s extension is the largest contraction team history to a guy who never even had a MLB at-bat. This offseason is going to be huge. If they fail to improve the team through FA again, it’s going to be hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel.
  22. I doubt it. Tilson was optioned, not DFA'd. They would need to open another 40-man spot to get him up here.
  23. As much as I agree with you that I'd love to see Nova off this team, who exactly do you suggest take his spot? Unfortunately, there really isn't any other options that are remotely capable to match his performance, let alone best him (i.e. Covey, Detwiler, Despaigne, Nicolino, Santiago, Roach, etc.). I think we are stuck with him.
