  1. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jul 25, 2017 -> 04:41 PM) Tie goes to the runner, except in replay I guess. Actual rule says the opposite. Says runner must beat ball to the base to be safe.
  2. QUOTE (TheTruth05 @ Jul 25, 2017 -> 03:16 PM) TA benched.nice job RR. Did he really? Or did he just make a double switch so he can get 2 innings out of Beck without him having to bat. Pitcher's spot due up 3rd next inning.
  3. QUOTE (TheTruth05 @ Jul 25, 2017 -> 03:13 PM) Beck is in there to be tossed.give them another bean ball Uh no. A bean ball is hitting someone in the head. Don't do that.
  4. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 25, 2017 -> 03:12 PM) Can someone fill me in on Lackey's off field actions that are supposed to make me not like him? Not to say I would have liked him anyway, he just has one of those faces, you know. The only thing I can remember is that he filed for divorce from his wife while she was battling cancer.
  5. Pretty crazy line for Rodon. The 4 IP, 4 ER, 7 H, 3 BB looks like s*** but because of the 11 K's he had a 3.14 FIP and 1.23 xFIP for the game which are phenomenal numbers.
  6. Anybody who isn't ecstatic with the return for Quintana is just wrong. Would I rather Quintana go somewhere where it's easier for me to root for him? Sure. Would I take a lesser package to allow Quintana to go to somebody other than the Cubs? Not a f***ing chance.
  7. As Reinsdorf has said before. He's only ever had one player who was untouchable and he played basketball.
  8. 4 straight games with a homer for Davidson. Just 4 more to catch Griffey, Long and Mattingly.
  9. Avi's kilt it twice tonight with nothing to show for it. Of course he's probably due for some bad luck with his ridiculous BABIP this year.
  10. With Trout being out, will they take the next top 3 as starters or just pick a replacement for him. If they take the next 3 highest Avi's just 40,000 behind.
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 1, 2017 -> 03:31 PM) Pat Foley has a lot of Hawk in him. He will not hesitate to bring down the thunder on someone or something. He has unloaded on players, teams, officials, and the league at different times. Eddie is much more PC, as he is still a national announcer too at times, but Foley will absolutely let loose if he feels it is warranted. You want a great example, google his rant on late Chicago start times. That even got Gary Bettman involved. The Alexander Karpotsev rant is still legendary. Pat Foley is awesome. Agreed, his rant on late starts was ballsy as hell.
  12. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Jun 1, 2017 -> 03:12 PM) Jason's job isn't to "take the s***ty sportswriters to task" or to "call out the bulls*** umps try to pull." His job is to call the baseball game, pure and simple. And truth be told I can tell you the White Sox don't want him doing that either. Even JR, Hawk's closest friend and confidant, has laid down the law to him at times over his comments and conduct. The Sox with their new primary TV announcer do not want controversy. If something needs to be brought out to the audience they want him doing it in a reasonable and professional manner not one in which the announcer loses his temper or comes across as sullen and taciturn. I suspect they 'put up' (for want of a better word) with Hawk when he did things like this, especially the last few years, because of his reputation and the fact that he earned some leeway...but that doesn't apply in Jason's case...at least for the next 20 years anyway. I know it isn't the announcer's job to do those things but it's always been nice having the guy in the booth expressing the same emotions that we are as fans. Does he go over the top sometimes? Sure, but I'd rather have that than a guy who just seems to be there for the paycheck.
  13. I'm not a huge Benetti fan. He's okay, but it won't be the same as the ol' Hawkeroo. After next year we will never have the great calls that we remember years later. "Joe! Crede!" "Come on Timo" "Call your sons, call your daughters, call your friends, call your neighbors, Mark Buehrle has a perfect game going into the 9th" "Alexei?! Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes!" And a million others. When is a Benetti walk off call going to stick in your head for years? Hawk called the game the same as we watched it as fans and that's what I love about him. When is Benetti going to take the s***ty sportswriters to task? When is Benetti going to call out the bulls*** umps try to pull. Sure it's not always professional but it draws attention to the problem. Hawk also came up with some of great nicknames in the game. Those things are gone once you go to your cookie cutter professional announcer.
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 30, 2017 -> 12:16 PM) Super 2 is typically the middle of June for someone with no ML service time. You'd have to add on his service time from last year to that middle of june date. Yea he had 44 days service time last year so you're probably talking 1st week of August.
  15. QUOTE (buhbuhburrrrlz @ May 27, 2017 -> 02:47 PM) Gregg Allman dead at 69 I am really struggling with this one. I can't even describe what the Allmans mean to me. Horrible couple weeks for rock with two of its greatest and most honest voices passing.
  16. Son of a b****. I was so looking forward to sitting at the bar and watching 6+ hours of baseball tonight.
  17. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 25, 2017 -> 02:31 PM) As of today, Molina is clearly #2 with Posey first (full-time catchers). Who would be #3 of this current generation of full-time catchers over the last 5-6 years? Personally, I'm not sure Perez will hold up physically to put up the offensive numbers he'd need, but he has the best combination of offense, defense and leadership after Posey. Molina, three years ago...I would have been 90% on board with him getting in. Mauer is no longer a catcher. Victor Martinez can only partially be considered one, most will think of him as A DH primarily, like Edgar Martinez, and occasional 1B. So who would you have third? Gary SANCHEZ? Carlos Santana? Whether he's 3rd best now or not doesn't matter. Perez is clearly nowhere near being a HOFer. He's been a 2.5 per season fWAR player for his career with a 98 wRC+. That is basically an average MLBer, not a HOFer.
  18. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 25, 2017 -> 09:43 AM) In addition to Posey. Already under the assumption he makes it barring another catastrophic injury. He might be having his best offensive season ever this year, although few are noticing since the Giants suck. What about Sal Perez even warrants mentioning his name alongside the Hall of Fame? Here's a hint. Nothing.
  19. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 25, 2017 -> 07:17 AM) Sal Perez and Molina are the only other catchers who are even close to being considered. Mauer is the interesting case with his split career...but he's probably not going to make it either. If his career ended in 2010 like Puckett, he gets in but not anymore since he became an average 1B/DH. Sal Perez, but not Buster Posey? Whatever you're smoking I'd like to have some.
  20. QUOTE (StrykerSox @ May 10, 2017 -> 10:33 AM) I think I understand that ISO tells us how much power hitters have separate of their contact abilities, but what do the numbers roughly mean? I.e. what is a good ISO for a future slugger? What do we want to see from Yoan? Fangraphs lists .140 as average, .170 as above average, .200 as great and .250 as excellent. http://www.fangraphs.com/library/offense/iso/ If Moncada could maintain that roughly .200 ISO he has now that would be fantastic. Realistically he probably won't be there from the start but if he can even be in the .170 range I would be happy with that. I've seen people compare Moncada to Trout and Cano. Trout had a .220 ISO in AAA, Cano had a .176 ISO at AAA. So Moncada is pretty well in line with them. Whether it will translate or even improve like their's did is anybody's guess.
  21. Moncada's K rate is down to 21.7% over his last 15. If he can keep it there that is perfectly acceptable for a guy with power who walks more than 10% of the time. I believe it when they say there is no rush to call him up but I really don't think money is a big factor. You're talking $10 million spread out between 2020 and 2023. That's chump change to an MLB team. I think if Moncada proves his performance is real over another couple weeks he'll be up. I really don't see them waiting until the Super 2 date especially since he already accrued 31 days service time with the Red Sox last year.
  22. QUOTE (bmags @ May 10, 2017 -> 08:47 AM) Is there a place to find ISO for minor leagues? Huh? It's just SLG-AVG.
  23. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 8, 2017 -> 09:52 PM) I listened to Rush while I was in the car today. He went wild saying Trump has been amazing and blamed the media for refusing to point out anything positive that Trump does. Hadn't heard Rush in a while and that's what he was spouting. He said the liberal media is hurting the Democratic party by trying to help it. Don't shoot the messenger here. Just reporting what I heard. Nobody is ever going to take you serious when you begin a post, "I listened to Rush while I was in the car today".
  24. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ May 8, 2017 -> 01:15 PM) Just my own personal opinion on your remarks: 1. Draft will be interesting. Sox need to draft a hitter. To me it doesn't matter what position they play. 2. I wouldn't count on both Rodon and Tilson returning. One? Maybe, but to me even that's not a guarantee. 3. & 4. I don't think Moncada gets called up until Sept 1 and I think that will be the case for the other "top" prospects. 5. Robert would be a key addition but like with college basketball recruits you don't know until they sign on the dotted line. 6. I don't know the significance of July 2nd, can you please explain. I think you're dead wrong on Moncada. If he continues to tear up AAA to the tune of a 1.000 OPS there really is no reason to keep him down. He's only a week away from getting the extra year out of him.
  25. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ May 4, 2017 -> 01:48 PM) I've seen the live play and 2 replays and still can't find the ball. It went into the fountain right under the red "Prime Lending" sign. You can see it come down right between the "e" and "n" in lending.
