  1. QUOTE (SoxAce @ May 3, 2017 -> 08:28 AM) His appendix was taken out. I also remembering hearing that his kid was having some health problems too. He just didn't make it well known because that's not his style.
  2. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ May 2, 2017 -> 07:11 AM) Mid May to early June, i.e. whenever they can get the extra year of service time out of Moncada, Delmonico, etc. Delmonico has not accrued any service time yet. He could be called up now and we would still have him for 6 full years plus the remainder of this year. Moncada can be called up May 14th (if my math is correct) and still get the "7th" year out of him. Giolito would be the 22nd and Lopez the 27th. Though neither appear to be ready.
  3. I'm really starting to think Avi may have figured something out. Obviously he can't keep up his current stat line but going all the way back to last year's All Star break he's been pretty damn good. That is just shy of a half season worth of PAs so it is fairly meaningful. Since last years All Star break .300/.350/.511 with 11 HRs, 40 RBIs, 13 2Bs, 2 3Bs That is over 69 games. Translated to 162 game average it would be 26 HRs, 94 RBIs, 31 2Bs, 5 3Bs Pretty impressive stuff. He's passing the eye test for me as well.
  4. QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 25, 2017 -> 09:32 AM) Only Robertson has value of the guys you mentioned Do you even follow baseball. Clearly you must not if you think Jones and Gonzalez at minimum don't have value.
  5. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Apr 17, 2017 -> 11:50 AM) We have 2 more years correct? Meaning through 2019. I thought that's what someone said yesterday. Yes. He is a FA after 2019.
  6. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Apr 16, 2017 -> 06:22 PM) A) how much control does he have left and B) who needs a corner outfielder? Keep it up Avi! Avi has two more years after this one.
  7. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 13, 2017 -> 07:26 AM) 10 vs. 16 isn't THAT dramatic. But yeah, closer to the NFL. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 13, 2017 -> 07:28 AM) Pretty much you have to be a .500 team to make the playoffs. Go back and count how many times the White Sox would have been in the playoffs with that standard. Don't even pretend like there is any sort of comparison between making the playoffs in baseball and basketball. Since Reinsdorf took over the Sox they have made the playoffs 5 times ('94 would have made 6). If MLB used the NBA standard for making the playoffs the Sox would have made it 20 times (not counting '94) in that same time frame, including every year from 1990 to 2006 with the exception of 95 and 99 where they would have missed by 1 spot.
  8. Both MLB game day and ESPN gamecast are f***ed up for me. ESPN is showing 3 BBs and 6 Ks in the inning for Shields. That's something I wanna see.
  9. QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Mar 29, 2017 -> 12:41 AM) Went on a first date tonight with a girl that I met online. She was really cool, we got along really well, talked for 3 hours at the restaurant, but I feel so shallow because what I didn't notice when she sat down, I noticed when we got up to leave. This girl has massive hips/ass. Like her upper body is maybe a little bigger than average, nothing that I am not ok with, but man, it honestly looks like she walks different because her hips are so big. I feel so bad. I'm going to keep talking to her and see her again to see if I can get over it, but I am already finding myself thinking of excuses to let her down for reasons other than that, obviously. It probably doesn't help that my ex and I had a crazy drunk night house sitting for my aunt's huge house over the weekend. We talked about wanting to do it again sometime soon, so now I am kind of wanting to keep going with that for a little bit, even though I know it's not healthy or whatever. Jesus Christ you're shallow as f***. It must be hard work being so perfect.
  10. Great f***ing game. Go Bucky! 6th Sweet Sixteen in 7 years.
  11. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Mar 9, 2017 -> 05:38 PM) Agreed. I'd even give him a full year in Charlotte if it benefits him long term. I don't know what the rush is in getting him to Chicago ASAP. If you call him up at the end of May you're giving him an extra 4 months of MLB experienced that does nothing to his service time. If he is playing well there is no point in leaving him down in AAA once he crosses the date to give him an extra year service time.
  12. QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Mar 3, 2017 -> 05:04 PM) Same needs to be done with Avi now before his contract becomes guaranteed. Avi makes nothing. His ceiling is worth paying for just in case he does hit it.
  13. QUOTE (miracleon35th @ Mar 3, 2017 -> 01:48 PM) Mncada appears to be further away from becoming a starting player in the majors than I imagined. Based off of what? 9 spring training at bats?
  14. No and nothing. I stopped believing in imaginary friends when I was a kid. Religion is the worst creation in the history of the world.
  15. QUOTE (daa84 @ Feb 27, 2017 -> 04:05 PM) respect him for doing what is most important for his family. one of my least liked sox ever though What exactly did Peavy do to deserve your disdain? Dude was intense but he had a very serious injury and worked his ass off to overcome it and his Sox career is actually a lot better than people give him credit for. He made just 83 starts in a Sox uniform due to the injury and in those 83 starts he accumulated 10.8 fWAR. That works out to roughly 4 fWAR per full season pitched. That's pretty damn good.
  16. QUOTE (ptatc @ Feb 24, 2017 -> 11:34 AM) No but he was a good player for 13 years with one team so he deserves consideration. He didn't hit much but was a good SS for years. He was really only good, never great for a few seasons. After the knee injury in '92 he lost his speed and range and was pretty useless.
  17. QUOTE (flavum @ Feb 23, 2017 -> 02:22 PM) Here are the numbers the Sox should have retired: 2 4 9 11 35 42 72 That's it. 3, 6 (Lau), 13 (Ozzie), 14, 16, 19, 56 These guys are very good to sometimes great players, but that's what team Halls of Fame are for. And yes, 6 and 13 aren't retired but are never issued. No on 16? 21 seasons with the team and a member of the BBHOF isn't enough for you? He's more deserving than 11 to me.
  18. QUOTE (3GamesToLove @ Feb 23, 2017 -> 01:33 PM) Wilbur Wood should really have his number retired. Also, Appling and Collins are the best position players in White Sox history, arguably even including the Big Hurt. Those guys don't have statues. A joke. Wilbur Wood is pushing it for me. I'm a fan of number retirement being for the best of the best. Hall of Famers that play all or nearly all of their career for the team. I think the Sox already have too many retired. I think the biggest reason why guys like Appling and Collins don't have statues is that they were dead long before the Sox started making statues. It's not nearly as exciting of a ceremony if the guy being portrayed can't be there to unveil the statue. The only one that was dead and received a statue was Fox and that's because he had the joint one with Aparicio. I do think they should, and probably will eventually, make statues for those guys it just doesn't take priority. Guys like Pierce and Aparicio were getting old and you want to get them done before they die.
  19. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Feb 23, 2017 -> 10:41 AM) I never said Sale was more deserving because of talent. I simply said he is more talented. Obviously there are other requirements that are in Buehrle's favor that work against Sale. Here's some more interesting questions: Will Buehrle be a Hall of Famer? If Sale makes it one day, will he wear a White Sox hat on the plaque? "Will Buehrle be a Hall of Famer?" - No. Had he not retired young and made a run at 300 wins he would have at least an outside shot at getting in. "If Sale makes it one day, will he wear a White Sox hat on the plaque?"- Sale's Hall of Fame induction would come sometime in the early to mid 2030's. I think it's a little premature to even discuss what hat he will wear on his hypothetical HOF plaque that he is still a solid decade of outstanding play away from achieving. He may play in Boston the rest of his career. Who the hell knows?
  20. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Feb 23, 2017 -> 10:23 AM) I don't want to derail the thread any further but I don't think some of you guys realize how good Sale was. Buehrle had the advantage of being with the team for much longer, having playoff success here, and not being a hot head, but pound for pound I think Sale is way more talented than he ever was. It has nothing to do with us not realizing how good he was. We all saw it. The hangup is that he was only here for 6 full years and just 5 as a starter. If you start retiring numbers for guys that played for you for 6 years, you're going to start running out of numbers. Are you really trying to argue that Sale deserves his number retired more than Buehrle because of his talent level. Obviously peak Sale was better than peak Buehrle but there is a s*** ton more to it than that. Buehrle was here for 12 f***ing years. Not to mention the fact that, oh, I don't know, he was the ace of a World Series winning team. Come on man. We get it. Sale was your favorite. He's gone, move on.
  21. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Feb 23, 2017 -> 10:08 AM) Good for him. I loved Buehrle. Hope they do the same for Sale at some point. Absolutely not. Doesn't come close to warrant getting his number retired.
  22. QUOTE (NCsoxfan @ Feb 19, 2017 -> 10:31 AM) Yup, this trade was a good example of the Sox trading a higher ceiling for a very small near term gain (which in that case didn't even really work out). Swisher was coming off back to back 4 fWAR seasons. I hardly call that a very small gain. The trade didn't work out but trading an unknown prospect plus filler for a 4 fWAR player when the team felt they could compete is not a bad move. Gio has only had 1 season that topped Swisher's '06, '07 seasons.
  23. I always thought Swisher high fiving a cardboard cutout of himself in the dugout after a homer was f***ing hilarious.
  24. That presser was painful to watch. It can be described as nothing else than the rantings of a mad man. How can anybody listen to him and not think he is completely insane?
  25. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Feb 15, 2017 -> 02:22 PM) I believe Sanchez is out of options. I think either he or Lawrie will be traded in spring training. You are correct. He is out of options. Initially added to the 40 man at the end of 2013 to protect him from the rule 5 draft.
