  1. If the White Sox traded Danks today, who would take his rotation spot? Axelrod?
  2. QUOTE (scs787 @ Jul 5, 2014 -> 01:20 PM) When I was looking at WAR(apparently the crappy kind) today I was dumbfounded to see Jake has the 25th highest of any pitcher. Most of any reliever. SELL HIGH!!!!
  3. ya, I was gonna say... let's sign some more cubans. So far WE'VE gotten it right 2 out of 3 times. 66.666666666666666667% ain't bad for US right? WE'VE got to sign some more Cubans and spend OUR bonus money!
  4. He could also file a grievance with the PA about being benched for no daggum reason.
  5. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 3, 2014 -> 03:54 PM) The we with sports teams has always been weird for me. If you attend or attended a college, referring to their teams as we seems OK, but why are the White Sox we if you don't work for them? If you are a big fan of a band, you don't say we have a concert in Portland tonight, or our world tour has 70 dates. People would think you are missing some marbles. Living in a poorly educated, ass-backwards southern state, there aren't a lot of professional sports teams to root for. So, the inbred rednecks love to wear their State school's hoodies along with their duck dynasty hats and Wranglers. Talk about infuriating. You didnt f***ing go to college asshole, put away the college sweatshirt. I know what its like to be a college grad, and if you were one, you wouldn't support the college that calls and emails every damn day asking for donations when you have 75k in student loan debt. Conclusion: people who wear college sweatshirts didnt go to college.
  6. It even pisses me off at work when the following scenarios occur: 1: Overpaid VP in a pressed shirt arrives at a project meeting and tells us "We need to operate with a greater efficiency that best represents our customers' needs" where my typical response is "STFU and go man your spreadsheet. I'll write the code, dBag." 2: Project Manager asks "Where We Are" with a task or deliverable... Where we are? Well... you "work from home" so you are probably at the f***ing beach sipping a pina colada patronizing me from your iFruit smart phone while I'm sweating out here with my cubemate who had too much protein for lunch." It goes both ways, people.
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 2, 2014 -> 09:33 AM) Jeff Passan ‏@JeffPassan 5m In 2007, MLB gave Alex Rodriguez permission to take testosterone. Interesting stuff from a new book excerpted in SI: http://bit.ly/1o8EJhP Reading the article, I gather that he applied for permission to use Testosterone to combat symptoms from prior steroid use? What a s*** show.
  8. Can I add Hawk trying to scale up his home run call.... You caaaaaan... put it on the booooOOOOOAAAARD..... Just say it. You can't sing. Please stop trying.
  9. This is probably just a personal thing, but it makes no sense to refer to a sports team as WE. "glad we won today." "That trade we made last week was awesome." "Wish we would steal more." You aren't on the team. You don't have a say in team transactions. You aren't coaching. Stop saying WE in reference to your favorite sports team. I'm sure I've done it, but I try to correct it when I catch myself saying it.
  10. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 3, 2014 -> 01:35 AM) We're collecting upper 90's fastball guys who can't get the ball over the plate...first there was the Sisco/Aardsma/Masset trio. Now we have Henry Rodriguez, Cleto and Angel Sanchez. Hopefully they can bring some excitement to Knights' fans...who knows, maybe they can even make a run at the playoffs in the 2nd half. At least this year though, The Sox aren't collecting them in the major league bullpen.
  11. Its scary to think, as good as Abreu is right now, that he is 26 and will only get better as he sees more MLB pitching.
  12. This thread is as dead/empty as the ballpark right now....
  13. If you read the article, I think all the writer is really trying to get across is... he has good stuff, poor command, but has demonstrated SIGNIFICANT improvement since getting his ass handed to him in AA just 2 years ago. Think like this: If Petricka has come this far, why can't he continue to improve and be a top notch closer?
  14. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 30, 2014 -> 01:35 PM) Remember, the Astros are viewed as completely bizarre by the rest of baseball. I don't think it's normal terminology for any other organization. It wasn't the Astros using the terminology... or maybe it was their GM that used those words to describe the offers... it was the Yankees and the Royals I think.
  15. I love this voyeuristic view of the Gm dealings... "Inventory player" "Paydown" completely different terminology than that fans and writers use.
  16. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 30, 2014 -> 12:23 PM) One wonders if Nate Jones even could have passed a physical before the season started. Do they check players' asses during physicals?
  17. I was on my soapbox in the offseason, and I think went as far as to say the Sox offseason plan should center around trading for Castro. Crap... He's been TERRIBLE this year. And as a sidenote, his statline exposes Flowers' entirely EMPTY batting average. Castro 218/297/363 - 82 Ks Flowers 237/296/326 - 92 Ks and for s***s and giggles.... Grandal 196/285/354 - 49 Ks Maybe keeping Flowers wasn't such a bad thing? *shrug*
  18. Ok so what players on the Charlotte roster have passports that allow them to "work" in Canadia? Does soxtalk have an insider with the department of labor or The department of consular affairs?
  19. QUOTE (Wanne @ Jun 21, 2014 -> 10:20 AM) Just read this morning that after his release Putz said he hasn't been able to put his finger on his struggles. Said his arm felt great...felt great during long toss and playing catch with different pitches...but for some reason it just hasn't translated to the mound. Thinks it's just a mechanical issue that he/coaches are missing. If the Sox think they still have a run in them...I'd say he'd definitely be worth a flyer. Erik Johnson said the same thing, though.... *shrug*
  20. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jun 20, 2014 -> 10:21 AM) After looking it up, his career was ended by a non-displaced fracture to his olecranon that needed a screw for stability. They decided to replace the screw which means that healing did not occur properly and may have been misaligned, which could explain why he never recovered properly. That really is more of the stress fracture that I was referring to unlike Floyd's that is obviously displaced. I was watching the game last night and he was cruising until that pitch... after you could see how swollen his arm was, and it wouldn't surprise me if there was something going on in there that caused it to break when he threw the pitch.
  21. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 20, 2014 -> 10:47 AM) Supposedly Zumaya had the same injury. He never pitched in the major leagues again. Of course he had several issues, so who really knows what Floyd's ultimate fate is here. Joel Zumaya's most significant injury was a separated shoulder resulting in AC Arthrosis (which I have and it SUCKS). Was never able to throw a ball again. As highly doucherous as he was, I will always "respect" him for how he injured it.... evacuating his parents from their home that was under threat of wildfire. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joel_Zumaya
  22. QUOTE (danman31 @ Jun 19, 2014 -> 11:03 PM) He's had no control this season. I wonder if the Sox moved him to the pen because of the lack of control or just because they figured he would end up there anyway. He was a fourth rounder last year so there's some prospect status if he starts throwing strikes. His strange and terrible pitching line from tonight should be footnoted with Brett Austin's TERRIBLE defense behind the plate. Two of the five strike outs (well, obviously) were wild pitches that should have been passed balls. Austin threw a ball up the right field line on the second unnecessary K. That inning was brutal to watch, and honestly, for as badly as I wanted to watch the Sox affiliate on TV, I turned it off. Ugly. On the positive side, his "stuff" is nasty. And I can't image its easy to catch a hard 12-6 in the dirt... over and over and over again. When its your second or third pro game.

  24. On May 26, 2013 the White Sox completed a sweep of the Marlins and subsequently reached 500. Then the following series, the Sox FELL APART at the hands of the Cubs. We all remember that series. The season was all down hill from there. #RoadtoRodon This season is shaping up to be no different. The Sox just swept the Indians and won 2 of 3 from the Dodgers... THENNNN.... we got Robin'd. Could this be a similar falling off point as in 2013?
