  1. Ruiz is out of options and too good to be DFA'd. I think his spot in the pen is secure.
  2. He has the 10th best wRC+ amongst 2B since he debuted. It's higher than Ozzie Albies and Whit Merrifield. Just because he's productive in an unconventional way doesn't mean it isn't valuable.
  3. It'll be fascinating to see what the Sox actually get for Kimbrel considering Segura and McNeil likely aren't happening. Upper minors pitching depth might actually make the most sense at this point.
  4. Add Joc to the RF mix and I think they're a lot closer to getting ~3 WAR out of RF than 2B.
  5. Cards wouldn't do it but dealing Kimbrel for Tommy Edman would be hilarious
  6. I think we can rule out a Kimbrel for Segura swap happening now.
  7. i would certainly agree that health is a bigger question mark for him going forward than performance.
  8. Madrigal basically had the same fWAR in 54 games last year that Harrison did in 138.
  9. Madrigal was a top 10 2nd basemen (by fWAR) at the time of his injury. His bat clearly plays at the big league level and I think he was making strides before the injury. I don't want to have another Madrigal debate with anyone, really, but he was objectively a very productive player and clearly better than the utility guys they've brought in to replace him.
  10. Whoever signed off on replacing Madrigal with utility players. I'll say that's ultimately Hahn's call.
  11. I felt the same way, but a lot of that is because I was upset the Sox accepted having a utility level player as their plan A starting 2nd basemen. Unfortunately, they're doing the same thing again with Harrison/Leury.
  12. I don't love this idea, but I think the Sox are going to give Burger a real shot to earn reps at 2B this year.
  13. He also fit the roster better. If they were going to go bargain shopping at 2B, overreacting to 2 bad months from Cesar was a mistake.
  14. Fangraphs has a 45 FV on Ginn and Oller's numbers have him looking like a better version of Lambert. One of the Kanny pitchers taking a leap last year so they'd hold trade value would have been nice.
  15. Dodgers are too smart for that, even though Kimbrel does make a lot of sense for them.
  16. Anyone in this thread know if the Mets by any chance traded for Chris Bassit? 🙂
  17. I hated the Kimbrel trade in the moment, but if they're really *stuck* with a reliever who projects to be one of the best in baseball, it's not the end of the world. They can still make meaningful additions as is with the CBT being raised now.
  18. The Sox are so risk adverse that they didn't offer Rodon the qualifying offer, which he only would have accepted if his shoulder was about to explode. There is no way they didn't do extensive due diligence of Kimbrel's trade value before picking up his option.
  19. Big velocity, strikeout rate surge last year, good groundball rate. He's very similar to Graveman. The Sox definitely have a type.
  20. I think a lot of that came down to how Semien's skillset was perceived ~10 years ago vs how it would be now. Even if he were viewed as 2B only, a 22 year old putting up a 163 wRC+ in AA and then continuing to do well in AAA later that year would be a top 50 prospect at minimum.
  21. They've made the most sense to me as a Kimbrel destination since before the trade deadline last year. They also have enough farm system depth (or money) to acquire another high end SP. They'll be the best team in baseball, on paper, again next year.
