  1. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 19, 2016 -> 01:48 PM) how do you expect them to be ready to go when you do need them to be good in September and hopefully October? That won't be an issue as long as they're wearing this uniform.
  2. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Sep 14, 2016 -> 10:24 AM) The reference to the 35 degree angle of the infamous upper deck - do you have any insight as to how that compares to the upper decks in the other ballparks built subsequent to the new Comiskey? Definitely not subsequent, but the upper deck at the old Yankee Stadium always looked very steep to me. QUOTE (ewokpelts @ Sep 15, 2016 -> 03:57 PM) There are two levels of suites. I always thought the 300 (Club) Level was kinda pointless. IIRC, the first row of seats in the upper deck is higher up than the light towers at the old park... not much of a selling point to me.
  3. Looks like the League may have Narvaez figured out... his average is plunging.
  4. QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Sep 3, 2016 -> 12:13 AM) http://mlbfarm.com/index.php?team=CWS Matt Cooper in relief.... 3IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 6 K. His ERA at AA is 3.07 and he has 47 K to 12 BB and just 30 H in 41 IP. That's a K/BB of about 4, and a WHIP slightly over 1. Encouraging progress for a 16th RD pick a couple years ago. Do they plan on using Cooper as a Starter or a Reliever?
  5. QUOTE (CWSpalehoseCWS @ Sep 1, 2016 -> 04:30 PM) Still scary to think the Sox catching duo next year is scheduled to be Narvaez/Smith. Scarier than Flowers/Nieto? The Sox haven't had a true "everyday" Catcher since AJ. QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 3, 2016 -> 09:37 AM) 26 new players matches 1995, the year the strike ended and they were patchwork all season. There were 25 total pitchers on the roster that year (I'm not counting Dave Martinez). Look at some of these names! 1995 Sox Roster
  6. Mixed results for Miguel Gonzalez... 7 K in 4.1 IP... GOOD 11 H and 6 ER in 4.1 IP... NOT GOOD
  7. QUOTE (RegionSox @ Sep 1, 2016 -> 02:58 PM) I'm glad Kevan Smith is getting another chance. Me too. What happened to him in Toronto was unbelievable.
  8. QUOTE (CWSpalehoseCWS @ Aug 31, 2016 -> 05:26 PM) I hope they pass on Burdi this year and let him try to make it out of ST. No reason to rush him to the majors. I agree, but knowing this organization, he'll be here.
  9. QUOTE (Dizzy Sox @ Aug 25, 2016 -> 11:31 AM) The draft is turning out to be one of--if not the only--bright spot of the season. My sentiments exactly. The more I learn about the players in this draft, the more I like it.
  10. Is Adam Engel eligible, or is there some rule preventing a player from going two years in a row?
  11. QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 23, 2016 -> 01:48 PM) I think looking at it like that is shortsighted. When we were good at pro scouting we flipped Mike Morse, Miguel Olivo and Jeremy Reed for Freddie Garcia. None of them did that well and it didn't hurt the white sox, but they had trade value and Garcia was really good. Now we trade 3 not very good players for 1 not very good player. Trading thompson for Frazier cost us the opportunity to trade him for someone useful OR keep him. We know what we got from Frazier, a replaceable year on a bad team. I agree with your point, but I think you're selling a few guys a little short. Mike Morse hit .276 with 104 HR and 352 RBI over his 12 year career. He was a pretty solid player; sometimes you have to give up something to get something. Olivo wasn't a great catcher, but he was pretty good (both offensively and defensively). The M's also sent us Ben Davis, a good defensive catcher who couldn't hit his way out of a paper bag. IMO, both sides benefited from that trade. Gio Gonzalez and Fautino de los Santos for Nick Swisher... BAD TRADE Kip Wells, Sean Lowe, and Josh Fogg for Todd Ritchie... BAD TRADE Shouldergate was a disaster for both teams (IIRC, Toronto GM Gord Ash actually lost his job over that trade).
  12. Nice rebound outing for Fulmer.
  13. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 23, 2016 -> 05:33 PM) Of course, many local/regional fans bought into this idea Shark's a Cy Young guy too, but the results have never measured up to the hype. WOW, Shark's career numbers: 57-70 4.10 ERA. That's pretty... meh. He only had 3 really good seasons (and he was a reliever in 2 of those 3). Just another overhyped Cub prospect (Corey Patterson, Felix Pie), and I bought into it.
  14. QUOTE (Middle Buffalo @ Jul 14, 2016 -> 03:41 PM) Bernstein had Anthony Lubrano (not sure of his exact affiliation, but he's a Penn State "Paterno-Phile") on 7/12. It's really a good example of what I don't like about Bernstein. He basically ambushes Lubrano and won't let him speak because he's not in full lock step with Bernstein. I'm not defending Lubrano's stance - I really don't know anything about him. However, if a guest has the courtesy to call, he should at least be allowed to speak. Bernstein does the same thing with callers. It mystifies me why anybody still calls that show. A couple years ago, McNeil dressed him down over something, and he had to sit there and take it. Boers and Bernstein both do some fantastic commentary, but IMO, they both jumped the shark with their obsession with Jerry Sandusky. QUOTE (shipps @ Aug 18, 2016 -> 11:24 AM) So what is up with Spiegel and his divorce from his wife. Apparently this has been a long time coming and people have known about it but it seemed like he just got married a couple years ago. I am confused. Spiegs split with The Biscuit? I know he got divorced from his first wife in the early days of Mac and Spiegs (7-8 years ago).
  15. I just noticed that the numbers he's putting up now are similar to his numbers from Junior College. It sounds like he was overthinking things at Pitt. He was a pretty good Pitcher in JUCO. If he doesn't make it as a position player, he can give that a try. Aaron Schnurbusch statistics
  16. I was intrigued by this pick when it happened... textbook definition of "high risk high reward." I'm ecstatic to see it working out so far... possibly a steal indeed.
  17. I can't help but notice how dramatically Peter Tago's ERA has dropped since he joined the Sox organization. Somebody in this Organization must've seen something. It looks like the Rockies used him primarily as a Starter.
  18. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Aug 16, 2016 -> 09:38 PM) This is an unexpectedly smart move. I agree, he never should've been called up in the first place. I hope this doesn't mean they're calling up Burdi.
  19. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Aug 16, 2016 -> 08:17 PM) More Reinsdorf: "Our offseason plans will be clear by our actions. Rick and Kenny are on the same page." https://twitter.com/thekapman/status/765711160746344448 And he seriously expects us to believe that?
  20. Not this year. Alex Rodriguez won't play for another team in 2016
  21. I was listening to Kaplan on ESPN 1000 the other day, and he kept teasing about how he spoke to a longtime scout who told him exactly how dysfunctional the White Sox front office really is. Anybody catch what he had to say? I missed it.
  22. I know we're talking Rookie League and low A ball, but several of these 2016 draftees are putting up some very impressive numbers. There may be some hope for this franchise yet.
  23. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Dec 20, 2013 -> 04:45 PM) I understand giving him a 2nd chance but I swear this is like 5 or 6, it's ridiculous at this point. I believe his current contract expires in June. It'll be interesting to see what happens.
  24. It was mentioned today that McNeil was at the WMVP studios having coffee with some boss types there. Interesting. I'm surprised Mac would want to go back there.
  25. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Dec 2, 2013 -> 02:05 PM) Last I heard of him he was getting beat up in the Rosemont Horizon parking lot. Didn't he move to New York or something a while back? I think he still does Notre Dame Pre and Post on WLS.
