    Sox Looking for CFers

Blackmon would be pretty sweet, but he's not gonna be cheap.

    Rodon's Replacement in Rotation

QUOTE (gosoxgo2005 @ Jul 14, 2016 -> 11:05 AM) This guy doesn't seem very credible. You'd be wrong. He's nailed just about everything this year.

    Rodon's Replacement in Rotation

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 14, 2016 -> 10:58 AM) Maybe the fact that his is making $1.5 million and hasn't dominated AAA makes his getting through waivers pretty simple. Or maybe they keep him around and work him out of the bullpen. That is sorta what I am thinking (regarding bullpen). Or maybe they are happy to save the ~$750k if someone does claim him.

    Yasiel Puig Trade Rumors

Remember when people wanted to trade Quintana for him? Gah, what a bad trade that would have been.

    Rick Hahn

QUOTE (chisoxfan310 @ Jul 13, 2016 -> 01:31 PM) I like that Gomez idea. Definitely the type of deal this team would make as opposed to signing someone else to a big deal. Me too. Buying Gomez on the cheap would be nice. 1 year deal with an option. Or even 1 year deal, and recoup a pick in a year if he's any good. Doubt the Sox will be the only team doing that though.
  6. Instead of threads clamoring that the Sox should sell or rebuild, how about we talk about possible targets to bolster this club for the 2nd half. The trade deadline is less than a month away, and with the Sox now 3 games over .500 and only 2 GB in the Wild Card - let's be real, the Sox aren't selling barring an extremely rough couple weeks. Here are some guys that could be targets (some discussed at length here, others not). I will add to this list as other names are mentioned / become available. Bats Outfielders: Jay Bruce - $12.5M in 2016; $13M team option for 2017 w/ $1M buyout Ryan Braun - $20M per in 2016-18; $19M in 2019, $17M in 2020, $15M mutual option w/ $4M buyout in 2021 Carlos Gonzalez - $17M in 2016; $20M in 2017 Charlie Blackmon - $3.5M in 2016; arb eligible 2017-18 Alejando De Aza - $5.75M in 2016 Nick Markakis - $11M per in 2016-18 David Peralta - $530k in 2016; pre-arb in 2017; arb eligible 2018-2020 Catchers: Jonathon Lucroy - $4M in 2016; $5.25M team option for 2017 Derek Norris - $2.925M in 2016; arb eligible in 2017-18 Aj Pierzynksi - $3M in 2016 Wellington Castillo - $3.7M in 2016; arb eligible in 2017 Gary Sanchez - Pre-arb Utility / DH: Logan Morrison - $4.2M in 2016 Eduardo Nunez - $1.475M in 2016; arb eligible in 2017 Danny Valencia - $3.15M in 2016; final arb year in 2017 Steve Pearce - $4.75M in 2016 Relievers Arodys Vizcaino - $900k in 2016; arb eligible through 2019 Fernando Abad - $1.25M in 2016 Jeremy Jeffress - $520k in 2016; arb eligible through 2019 Huston Street - $8M in 2016; $9M in 2017; $10M in 2018 w/ $1M buyout Fernando Salas - $2.4M in 2016 Ryan Madson - $6.66M in 2016; $7.6M in 2017-18 Brad Ziegler - $5.5M in 2016 Tyler Clippard - $6.1M per in 2016-17 Neftali Feliz - $3.9M in 2016 Jake McGee - $4.8M in 2016; arb eligible in 2017 Starters Less likely here, but... Jeremy Hellickson - $7M in 2016 Jake Odorizzi - $520k in 2016; arb eligible 2017-2019 Ervin Santana - $13.5M in 2016; $13.5M 2017-2018; $14M team option w/ $1M buyout for 2019

    Sox sign Justin Morneau

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 10, 2016 -> 09:23 PM) Morneau didn't play at Charlotte or for BIRM. What happened? Thought he was going to get one final day of AB's on Sunday? Sent him home to spend time with his family one day early...before Friday's action started back up? Planned day off. Will be in action w Birmingham tomorrow.
  8. Need to get these next two. Braves are not a good baseball team. Teheran is tough. Hopefully they get him early.

    Countdown to the Trade Deadline..

Can cross Ziegler off the most. Boston picked him up last night for a couple A ballers. QUOTE (Real @ Jul 9, 2016 -> 07:04 AM) They need to be blowing s*** up, not adding more pieces to a broken train. 8 years without reaching the post season. Hey Sox, you're doing it WRONG. That ain't gonna happen until JR is gone. Time to face reality.

    Countdown to the Trade Deadline..

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 8, 2016 -> 03:07 PM) They haven't been moving "their better prospects". They have been moving second and third tier guys. Tim Anderson is here. Carlos Rodon is here. Tyler Saladino is here. Carson Fulmer is still in the system. Steven Adams is still in the system. A 7 foot center in the system would be intriguing.

    Countdown to the Trade Deadline..

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 8, 2016 -> 02:57 PM) My requisite post The Sox will never get anywhere if they keep moving their better prospects for 1-2 year veterans who have reached peak. Yes, it will meet the Williams/Hahn mythical "3 (now 2) year window" and it obviously would excite fans. But the Sox won't win. Some teams can do this sort of thing...those with stocked farms. The Sox system is thin, including, despite claims to the contrary, pitching. Looking for a catcher is particularly bad idea, as the marginal value of a catcher upgrade isn't as great as, say, the marginal value of a hitter, but the cost would be much higher. Thanks for your input. We had no idea how you felt on the matter.

    Countdown to the Trade Deadline..

QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Jul 8, 2016 -> 02:32 PM) The White Sox are in such an odd spot right now. They have a lame duck manager, are in the middle of an odd 3 year window that KW claimed last year (2015-17), are 7+ games behind the tough Indians, yet are only 2.5 games back in the wild card race. The question they need to ask themselves is-- can we win the World Series his year? As of right now, they are nowhere near better than Cleveland, so is it too risky to simply trade prospects just to go for a wildcard spot? A risk of losing pieces of the future for the possibility to get knocked out of a one game playoff game. Or is it the plan to acquire a veteran that is locked up for the rest of 2016 and 17? A guy like CarGo or Bruce? The way I see it, Jackson and Morneau are one year rentals-- anything you get from them is a HUGE bonus to 2016. However, they need to have the mindset for the future as well. I'm all about retaining prospects and possibly even adding prospects this deadline. However, knowing KW and Hahn and seeing their patterns this season, I expect a HUGE deal made at the deadline that will likely sacrifice Fulmer, and possibly Spencer Adams. I'm calling it now, the White Sox will either acquire CarGo or Bruce right after the ASB. I think you're probably right, but I bet they don't trade Fulmer. Spencer Adams very well may be traded. If they get Jay Bruce, its definitely not going to be at the price of Fulmer. Adams is probably safe there too.

    Countdown to the Trade Deadline..

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 8, 2016 -> 02:12 PM) Brewers need a 3rd baseman bad since they have to rely on Will Middlebrooks and even Jake Elmore. If the Sox want to be bold they could offer Brett Lawrie or Saladino . If Brewers took Lawrie ,Saladino probably become starting 2nd baseman. Of course doubtful Lawrie alone would do it.Maybe also offer Trey M.,Courtney Hawkins. Lucroy is signed through 2016 with an option for 2017 and is still cheap . Lawrie only signed through 2016 so Sox would be gaining the extra year and better player hence the need to give the Brewers some controllable pieces also. Saladino isn't arbitration eligible until 2019 so maybe Brewers would prefer him over Lawrie. Saladino may be an interesting piece for them. Doubt they'd have much interest in bringing Lawrie back into the organization. The Brewers time frame for contention is well outside of 2017, hence why they need to move Lucroy, but also why they probably won't be interested in Lawrie - in addition to the fact that they've been down that road already.

Chris Sale named to All-Star game

QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Jul 8, 2016 -> 11:49 AM) Would Q even be eligible for the AS game? I thought they had a rule about pitchers and how many days rest they got before the game. Like any starter pitching on Sunday wouldn't be eligible. Does that rule extend to Saturday as well? I wondered the same thing. He'd be on two days rest. Seems to me he may not even be "sub" option, which sucks. Davis still has to be replaced. Unfortunately none of they other starters are slated to pitch on Sunday.
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 8, 2016 -> 10:34 AM) With that contract, they would probably just give us McCann. That is an ugly contract for a guy who was just publicly labeled as an $85 million platoon player. At least its the strong side of the platoon. $17M in 17 and 18, and $15M in 2019. Still has an OPS of .771 this year; still won the SS last year despite the 3rd lowest OPS of his career. Could transition him to 1B/DH in a couple years. For being a catcher, I don't think that contract is THAT crazy. But if the Sox plan on moving Collins quickly, it probably doesn't make sense.

    7/8/16 - Braves @ White Sox - 7:10 - CSN+

Sale should have 12+ Ks tonight. The Braves are comically bad.
  17. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 7, 2016 -> 07:47 PM) Post does not match quote lol Lol, yah whoops. Was going to respond to that one but changed my mind. It is responding to a black hole.
  18. How about Brian McCann instead? Realistically, I don't see the Yanks selling unless they have a rough couple weeks.

Carlos Gonzalez expresses interest to be traded

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 7, 2016 -> 03:23 PM) Here we go. Knew this was coming .750 OPS away from Coors field in 2016; .758 in 2015. That's Rios. Hahn set that value: Leury Garcia. (really should be less considering that Rios made 60% of Cargo's money) Paying anything more than the value of a .758 OPS earning $20 million a year is wishcasting. That's all it is. LOL

Carlos Gonzalez expresses interest to be traded

I think Cargo would be just about exactly what we need. I am all for it. If you can get him for a package of 2nd tier guys while eating all of his contract, I say do it. But that's unlikely. Something like Engel/May, Guerrero, Danish and Hawkins. But I highly highly doubt the Rockies will move him without Fulmer or Anderson, which I don't see the Sox doing.

    7/6/16 - Yankees @ White Sox - 7:10 - WPWR

QUOTE (kevo880 @ Jul 6, 2016 -> 04:45 PM) Do you think Avi will be sent down to AAA when this happens or just get less AB's? Hopefully. Maybe he'll find something down there.

    Let's Rebuild the Sox

QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Jul 6, 2016 -> 03:53 PM) Holding onto Rodon is lose-lose. You wait and wait for him to be a cheap great pitcher, and then by that time he's a near-lock to leave since he's w/ Boras Other scenario: he doesnt become good. Interesting theory. You don't trade a pitcher with ace potential and 5.5 years of control that is dirt cheap for 2.5 more years, just because one day he is going to leave via free agency.

Avila leaves game, placed on DL. Narvaez called up

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 6, 2016 -> 01:59 PM) Have you ever watched Smith play an inning of baseball to definitively say Nieto is better? I think he is talking about Hayes.
  24. ChiSox59

Avila leaves game, placed on DL. Narvaez called up

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 6, 2016 -> 01:40 PM) If Hayes really COULD catch, he would be on the White Sox right now...that's like calling Saladino a catcher. He is on the DL, so no, he wouldn't be.
  25. ChiSox59

Avila leaves game, placed on DL. Narvaez called up

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 6, 2016 -> 11:32 AM) It is a bit weird that they'd protect Carroll over Hector Sanchez. Why would any other MLB team want Carroll desperately? Despite all the MLB pitchers we've gone through, we still haven't used Carroll or Turner. So now we're going to have to sacrifice Narvaez to the wolves. Not that he was a top prospect or anything. Reminds us, though, that stowing away the A+/AA Cuban catcher from the Nationals for an entire year had ZERO payoff at all. He's where he would be invaluable...or would have been, that experience. Yah, you think it would have been worthwhile to hold onto Nieto a bit longer. I guess they preferred Smith - I guess that will happen when you watch a guy hit .200 at AAA. FWIW, Neito is hitting .165 in AAA right now. And technically Carroll did make an appearance for the Sox this year.
