  1. Yeah, I don't see Madrigal on the team until August 1 or so.
  2. I suspect you'll see a lot of impending FA on the teams that get off to bad starts moving around. The returns will be negligible though. Probably mainly fringe 40/60 man pieces as the return.
  3. Maybe he shouldn't have needlessly handed Jose Abreu $18M in 2021. Kidding..... Sort of....
  4. He is not. But he could, theoretically, get added at a later date.
  5. A little surprised no Thompson or Dalquist on the taxi squad. Also no Palka, so the rumors about his days being done with the Sox all but confirmed. Is a guy like Palka still owned by the sox, or can he sign with someone else? Really sucks if he's basically stuck in an org that has no plans to use him.
  6. If the wife is pregnant, are we 100% sure he doesn’t get service time? I know some of the early proposals had guys accruing service time if wives had pre existing medical conditions. Does pregnancy count? Not sure if that was changed in final agreement.
  7. Watch Garfien's next tweet for Exhibit A why Yermin can't play 3B.
  8. IIRC, the reports of Yermin's ability to actually play 3B at the AAA were not very kind. Yes, he can stand over there. Yes, he can probably make 8/10 routine plays. No he is not an everyday option at 3B. He would make Miguel Sano look like a gold glover.
  9. As is Jose. Like he always does every ST. I wouldn't read too much into it.
  10. I know I quoted you, but it was more of a general comment. People around here tend to downplay what Madrigal brings to the table. Just let him go out there and play ball and hold down 2B for the foreseeable future. He's going to be a good one, and like I said, an awesome fit on this roster. Vaughn is going to play 1B for the Sox and is incredibly unlikely to play an inning in the big leagues in 2020. I have no issues with him taking reps at other positions in ST (much like Jose always takes reps at 3B in ST), but our IF in pretty locked down for the next 5 years outside of 1B.
  11. Madrigal is literally the perfect complementary piece on this roster. He does EXACTLY the things the Sox have lacked for years. Let's stop trying to replace him or trade him or upgrade from him. Just let him go out there and play gold glove defense, hit .290-.310 and be towards the top of the league in putting the ball in play the next 6-7 seasons.
  12. Yeah, I missed that the Sox already optioned him back in March. My misunderstanding.
  13. Upon further review, yes they did. Good catch.
  14. I'd option him in a heartbeat. Just not sure the Sox will.
  15. Is it really speculation when the guy has flat out said he has mental health issues?
  16. Problem is, the Sox will only control him 4 seasons by the time he's ready to pitch in the bigs again (assuming the worst for this season for a second). Unless, of course, the Sox do what they should do and option him if he doesn't come back in the next couple weeks. But the Sox being the loyal group that they are, I'd be a bit surprised to see him optioned if its mental health isssues. 2/3 of his cheap control gone with a grand total of 14 MLB innings pitched. Not great.
  17. Rabbit specifically mentioned Ruiz, so its probably him and Moncada.
  18. Hanging it up doesn't make much sense. 99.9% chance those are just twitter troll rumors.
  19. Just give me Mookie fucking Betts and this team has a chance to do some very special things for the next half decade.
  20. Madrigal was definitely on the original 44 man "summer camp" roster. https://www.nbcsports.com/chicago/white-sox/2020-white-sox-roster-pool-44-players-will-report-summer-camp
  21. I see Juan Soto isn't in camp either because he was "in contact" with someone who has tested positive. Hopefully that's the case with Yoan, and he doesn't actually have it.
  22. I think you're taking it a bit too literally. Will they become homeless without a year of pay? Obviously not. But will some of the league minimum and lower paid guys have issues making rent/mortgage payments, car payments, etc., etc. without a year a of pay? Absolutely. These guys want to make money. I would venture a guess without looking that the average major league shelf life is between 1.5-2.5 season. These guys have a short window to make good money playing a game. After baseball, most of these guys are not going to collect big time pay checks. The vast majority of them that haven't already banked tens of millions are going to want to play. That was my point. Not that they couldn't walk into a bank and get a loan or that they literally couldn't buy groceries if games aren't played. Its all relative - but I do think it is safe to assume that a good percentage of professional athletes are living a lifestyle at, above, or well above what their expected annual pay in 2020 was.
  23. "Most who really make the league, do not" what? Need the money? If that is what you meant, I strongly disagree. Most guys who are "in the league" by the true sense of the word "most" definitely cannot afford to go a full year without making any money. Sure, there are definitely a percentage of guys who are extremely wealthy and can afford to sit out, but there is a larger percentage who are not.
  24. I think its obvious. A bunch of them need to make money. Well over half the league isn't going to be in the league in a half decade. Punting the chances at millions (or even hundreds of thousands) is an easy risk when playing baseball is no more risky than picking up groceries, running into Home Depot, getting your phone repaired at the Apple Store, etc. Mike Trout can afford to sit back and say ehhh...this may not be worth it. Older guys who have made tons of money in the league like Ryan Zimmerman and Ian Desmond can do the same. But the vast majority of these guys want to play baseball, and want to make the money that comes with it.
