  1. I disagree here. Obviously if someone wants to give you a nice prospect for him, by all means listen. But $5.4M is nothing and it will be really nice to have McCann around. God forbid Grandal gets hurt, we have a starting caliber catcher there ready to take the load for a couple weeks. I’m not trading McCann to save $5.4M and acquire a guy that will never make it past A ball. I also don’t think Collins as the straight backup catcher makes a ton of sense.
  2. Collins should have a spot on the 26 man to open the season. He can optioned when Robert and Madrigal arrive if he’s not performing. AAA season doesn’t open until like 10 days after MLb. I’d rather have the insurance or Collins in AAA than to just trade him or McCann for whatever they can get. All of these guys can fit.
  3. Or they don’t want to just hand him the DH role when a legit DH can be acquired for a $10M 1 year deal. Collins will still get his chances in 2020. It’s better to have options than to simply only have Collins to roll with.
  4. Not clear yet. Should be clarified when Sox officially announce the deal. But I read it as 160 innings in both the 21 and 22 seasons for 23 to vest. Not 160 combined between the two.
  5. Oh for sure. I’m not saving RF for him, I’m saving it for the next FA class and rolling with Mazara for 2020. If Micker blows up the meantime, that’s fantastic.
  6. That too! Love me some Micker. I think off all our prospects sans Robert, he has the highest upside. If he can stay healthy, he’s talented enough to be a top 25 type prospect a year from now.
  7. Right. But they did and that can’t just be ignored.
  8. Got to agree here. Surprising so many Sox fans are willing to throw all their chips in the pot the very first time they get the chance.
  9. Right - its not like I am going to be livid if it happens. Sox would on paper look super interesting in 2020. It would be fun! But it would also be super short sighted, and put a huge lack of focus on defense which we desperately need to improve.
  10. If I had to pick, I would take EE over Castellanos for who has the highers 2020 wRC. That is enough for me to say PASS! Give me the guy that doesn't clog shit up long term. And this is coming from someone that isn't even totally in love with the EE idea.
  11. I care far less about the money than I do about committing to terrible defense, and punting on a top 25 prospect widely considering to be an amazing bat just so we can keep 2 DHs in the field, and because people are impatient. I would be really shocked to see the Sox do this - unless, again, his market has totally cratered.
  12. Gotcha, thanks for clarifying. Agreed. I'd be a little surprised if he got $10M in arb1 unless he goes bonkers in 2020, but I don't think he'll be that far off from that number either.
  13. This. Castellanos is a guy in no more than 18 months we'll want to be upgrading from. And he's bad defensively. Just say no.
  14. Couple things. 1. I don't bank on anything. I do think Betts is a pipedream, but I also think he is like...the perfect fit....and if there is anyone the White Sox should shell out a mega contract offer for it, it should be him. Will they get him? Most likely not, but I wouldn't remove all doubt right now. Springer would be a pretty great consolation prize anyway. 2. I do not and will not factor Mazara into any plans after 2020. He is a 1 year roll of the dice. If he blossoms, he'll be here in 2021, but I am not counting on it, and neither should you. 3. Signing Castellanos absolutely blocks Vaughn. If not, the Sox are going to have the worst OF defense in the league with Eloy and Castellanos, even if they have an elite defender in Robert in between. We need to play better defense moving forward! Castellanos can fake RF for a year or so, but by 2021 he should be the full time DH, And so should Abreu. 4. If his market has cratered to the point to where like a 3 year $40-45M deal is possible, id consider it. But definitely would want nothing to do with a NTC, and I would be trading Castellanos most likely within 18 months. But I doubt his market has cratered that much. Some of you guys just want to push all the chips in right away. Be patient. Castellanos would seriously handcuff this team positionally. Try to take the long view. Not to mention, EE will be cheaper, be a 1 year commitment, and is probably a better bat anyway.
  15. Not really. So we punt Vaughn and commit to shitty defense for the term of Castellanos contract (likely at least 3 years) just to improve our DH spot? Just sign EE to a 1/$10M deal. Castellanos would make 2020 super fun - I can't deny that - but it such a bad long term play. Keep RF open for a FA splash in year. Abreu to DH. Vaughn to 1B.
  16. Right, it made a little sense before Abreu and Mazara. Now it makes no sense at all.
  17. Woof. Thought we dodged this bullet. It sounds OK for 2020, but long term just such a bad fit.
  18. Too bad Sousa isn't good defensively, or he'd a nice platoon fit.
  19. I prefer Wheeler to Ryu, and really none of this matters at this point. You can pick whatever timeframe to fit your argument, but the most fair timeframe is their entire career, and they've pitched the same amount. I do agree that Ryu is a bigger injury risk going forward which is really all that matters.
  20. Probably but the Twins are going to take a major step back. When 60% of your rotation the first 25% of the season is Lewis Thorpe, Randy Dobnak and Devin Smeltzer, you're going to lose a lot of games. Best case scenario for the Sox is that the Twins are forced to trade away major future talent in Royce Lewis and/or Kirilloff for SP because they've left themselves no other options. Or maybe its just filling in their rotation with guys like Nova and Smyly. Either way, their rotation is pretty gross.
  21. Well, they've been in the league the same number of years and have pitched virtually the exact same number of innings, sooooo..... I get that Wheeler had 1 terrible injury that knocked him out for a long time and Ryu several smaller injuries. But at the end of the day, they have in fact pitched the same amount over the same amount of time.
  22. Its nice to have depth. I prefer Collins in AAA as opposed to trading McCann for whatever they can get and using Collins as a strict backup that only plays 5x a month. That doesn't do him much good either.
