    Sale to StL Cards speculation

QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jul 2, 2015 -> 07:21 PM) With our hole at 2B you have to have Wong in the deal Wongs D blows (nh). Nice player and bat to have at 2B but the sox need to improve their D, not make it worse.

    Sale to StL Cards speculation

I don't know if I'd take that deal if the Sox only had Sale signed for 1.5 more seasons at $30M per. And the guy called Sale "one of the best 15 pitchers in the game." Hilarious. All that needs to be said. /thread

Royals fan/writer wants them to get Quintana

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 2, 2015 -> 08:53 AM) The other issue that Quintana would become the Royals' ace. So in that sense, one might demand and ace's price. Royals have a horrible rotation. Their pen is great, but might succumb to the pressure and over-work. Wouldn't surprise me if the Twins take this division. Meanwhile, Royals look like a team to do business with. It would surprise me a great deal. They're terrible. The Twins will end up with less than 80 wins. Their hot start was totally inflated by an out of this world batting average with RISP. It was, and has been, totally unsustainable. Unless Sano comes up mashes 25 homers and hits .300, and Santana comes back as an ace, and Buxton comes back in August and looks much better than he did in his 40 at bats, this is still a very bad team. I'd be less surprised to see the Sox pass the Twins than the Twins win the division. And this is coming from someone who lives in Minneapolis and has watched a sizable number of Twins games.

Royals fan/writer wants them to get Quintana

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 1, 2015 -> 03:08 PM) Eventually, the 84 or 86, whatever he is throwing these days, has to come back and hurt him. Probably when he signs a White Sox contract. But he seems to be, even with a few less ticks on the gun, the exact same guy he has always been. Yeah...but we've been saying that since 09. The guy just knows how to pitch.

Royals fan/writer wants them to get Quintana

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 1, 2015 -> 03:01 PM) According to fangraphs, he has put up $57 million in value. I think his contract was for $55 million with half a season to go. One free agent who worked out. It would have been interesting if the Sox held on to him. Would they have made the playoffs in 2012? Would Sale have become a closer? Who knows. Wouldn't mind trading Q for a haul and signing Buehrls in the offseason.

7/1 - White Sox at Cardinals

QUOTE (shysocks @ Jul 1, 2015 -> 11:50 AM) Cards start a 4-game set with San Diego tomorrow. Ahh...misread the schedule. Even more reason they'll do everything they can do get this in.

7/1 - White Sox at Cardinals

QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jul 1, 2015 -> 11:37 AM) I don't see this game being played. I hope the call it sooner than risk everyone going to the game. I doubt they'll do that. They obviously don't return to STL, but both teams do have an off day tomorrow.

    Relievers moving or moves coming?

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 27, 2015 -> 11:26 AM) I'm not sure we have a "reliable" lefty right now...and "sign someone else to a spendy deal" is exactly how we wound up with that current lefty of questionable reliability. What else do you suggest? It costs money to sign decent players.

    Relievers moving or moves coming?

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jun 27, 2015 -> 09:26 AM) I would try to sell high on Putnam at the deadline. Might be able to get something of value for him. And if someone would take on Duke's contract, I'd definitely let him go for the salary relief. Agreed on Putnam. With Duke, the Sox finally have a usuful LH reliever. Yeah, he's overpaid a bit, but we'll be right back without a reliable lefty next year. Or else they'll just have to sign some ther lefty to a spendy deal Cuz that's the way FA works.
  12. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 27, 2015 -> 08:28 AM) Jermaine Dye and Jim Thome worked out pretty well. Dye had 200 PA in the NL, 6800 in the AL.
  13. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Jun 23, 2015 -> 04:00 PM) I think the Sox should purge the entire organization and start over. There is precedence. As constructed, it's clearly not working. I'd be open to trading Sale because I don't think it's ever wise to work under the assumption that a pitcher will remain dominant over the course of several years. Sure, there are plenty that do, but I wouldn't count on it Obviously, it's tough with Sale because you'll never get equal value, but we're so far away that it won't matter. Even if most of the players were playing to expectations, we'd be mediocre to bad IMO. This team doesn't have a lot of talent and it's the worst defensive team I've ever seen. I don't think much of Eaton or Ave and I don't like Johnson and Anderson as middle infield prospects. Root for the Cubs!!

    Samardzija Trade Packages

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 23, 2015 -> 03:47 PM) They'll be able to get something for him but if they want something big-league ready or close to it they won't get anyone that impressive. Closest I could find to a guy like that, 3 months remaining and ~3 win player last year was the Brandon McCarthy deal and he brought back Vidal Nuno, 26 year old reliever I haven't heard of until right now. 2 months of Andrew Miller turned into Eduardo Rodriguez last year.
  15. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 23, 2015 -> 02:53 PM) The one thing he does say that makes total sense is if the White Sox don't think they can win for 3 or 4 years, they should, if the packages were right, trade these guys. Aaaaaand no one disagrees with him....
  16. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Jun 23, 2015 -> 02:47 PM) Ffs. 1. The Sox need to start over. 2. They are 3-4 years from winning. 3. Sale and Abreu have small windows. 4. The Sox shouldn't be afraid to move them. 5. They don't sell tickets. 6. Southsider has a long standing argument that the Sox can't afford to rebuild because of the fickle fanbase. When you trade guys like Sale and Abreu, you hope to get someone who is like Sale and Abreu down the road. The Sox have both of these guys locked up at well below market prices for the foreseeable future. I don't think they are "scared to move them", but I think the price to acquire both players is so high that neither will be moved - which I am fine with. If the Dodgers come around and offer Urias, Seager and Grandal for Sale - I would think the Sox would be willing to discuss, but anything short of that, forget it.
  17. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Jun 23, 2015 -> 02:38 PM) LOL. I never said you should them. I said you shouldn't be afraid to move them You're making less and less sense with each post.
  18. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Jun 23, 2015 -> 01:43 PM) They don't have stars as it is. They have some great players, but they aren't stars. It really couldn't be worse. Sale and Abreu don't sell tickets. Baseball doesn't work like that anymore. Winning and beer sells tickets. The team is abysmal. Attendance is abysmal. They don't have the assets to build around the 3 or 4 good players they have. They're dangerously close to being the Raiders of baseball. Uhhh...Sale is probably the best pitcher in baseball, if not he's top 3. How is that not a star???
  19. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Jun 23, 2015 -> 12:50 PM) His proposed Sale to the Cubs trade is Schwarber, Baez, and Alcantara. I can't respect him after that proposal, to call it a joke is a complete understatement. I would burn down Rick Hahn's office if he made that trade. Agreed. That proposal is a joke. Sale's return would be unprecedented. Maybe Urias, Seager and Grandal get the Sox listening, but that I still don't think that's enough...maybe taking Danks contract too. He way undervalues Abreu. If he was a FA this offseason, he would have gotten a $200M deal. He'd get the Sox a HAUL if they wanted to move him. I don't think the Sox are thinking of moving Abreu or Sale, but it does make some sense if you could get Seager, Urias and Grandal for Sale and something slightly less for Abreu. Then trade Shark, Robertson and anything else that is able to be moved (Alexei, LaRoche, Beckham, etc.) and get as much as you can. It's intriguing, but this isn't going to happen.

    Samardzija Trade Packages

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jun 23, 2015 -> 10:57 AM) I am still leaning towards the Sox trying to sign the Sharkmeister to a 3-5 year deal. Hopefully though the figure is more in line with a sum of $14M a year. The whole team has stunk this year so you can't just say it's Smards faulty and trade him away for unknown commodities. I am of the pinion that we won't see and fire sale as the management thinks next year will be better with the talent we have. Of course we may see some mid-level moves I wouldn't hate that - but as others have said, the Sox clearly need help on offense. Trade the guy for a bat and lets see what Erik Johnson can do. We could always sign him this offseason (although that is probably pretty unlikely if we deal him).

Who represents the Sox in the All Star Game?

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 22, 2015 -> 05:58 PM) Neither Robertson nor Abreu are anywhere close. Ehh..Jose probably won't make it unless he gets hot the next few weeks, but even tho he has been a disappointment compared to last season, his numbers will keep him in the conversation.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 22, 2015 -> 03:50 PM) Dan Hayes ‏@CSNHayes 19s20 seconds ago #WhiteSox for 6/22: Eaton 8, Garcia 9, Abreu 3, Cabrera 7, LaRoche DH, Ramirez 6, Beckham 5, Soto 2, Sanchez 4. Danks vs. Milone. Clean up hitter is hitting .172 and 5-hole hitter is batting .192 against LHP, which Milone is. Yikes..
