  1. Lol no way. Quintana has minimal surplus value. He's paid what he's worth. I doubt the Cubs trade him, but if they did, they wouldn't get much. The Cubs definitely aren't getting a top 20 type prospect for Schwarber.
  2. Realistic Offseason Plan: Resign Abreu - 2 years / $28M with $13M club option in 2022 Sox lowball Yolmer on 2 year / $7M extension and he takes it Sign Zack Wheeler - 4 years / $70M Sign Grandal - 3 years / $60M Sign Alex Wood - 1 year / $8M RF is tough. I want Nimmo. I think we shy away from Castellanos/Ozuna due to poor defense and Abreu staying around clogging up DH. Will likely be one of Calhoun, Dickerson, Gordon, or perhaps Gardner. Don't hate the Gardner idea frankly. Hopefully all on 1 year deals with an option. Let's just call it 1 year / $10M to be safe (probably conservatively high for most of those guys). For the sake of this exercise, I am going to select Dickerson. I think we'll also sign a decent veteran reliever. Hard to say who - let's go with Chris Martin at 2 years / $12M. Payroll would be right around $125M, still below league average. Lineup by May 1: Robert CF, Moncada 3B, Abreu 1B/DH, Eloy LF, Grandal DH / C, Anderson SS, Dickerson RF, McCann C, Madrigal 2B BN: Leury, Yolmer, Collins and Engel Rotation: Giolito, Wheeler, Cease, Lopez, Wood (with Kopech joining mid-June, Rodon shortly thereafter) Pen: Colome, Bummer, Fry, Martin, Cordero, Marshall, Herrera and one of Hamilton/Fulmer/Johnson/Burdi/Covey/Ruiz/Vieria, etc. Tough to not be excited about that team. Probably doesn't get you to the playoffs, but they'll be young, cheap and controllable. All good things. May be good enough to compete in the AL Central that will certainly still be down.
  3. No. The thought of even doing so is so stupid. The Sox didn't rebuild to trade away an elite prospect or two for 1 year of an impending free agent.
  4. I hear ya....Collins does provide alot of things this team lacks. I think he'll get his shot, but taking away his catchers glove already isn't really the best idea. Collins provides exponentially more value if he can catch, both to the Sox, and as a trade asset. He doesn't need to be, nor will be ever be a full time catcher. And that is fine. But removing any chance he has of even being an occasional catcher already doesn't seem like the wisest of moves.
  5. 10 most likely at this point? What would it take to move up to 8 or 9?
  6. Because Ricky, and most other managers, aren't going to risk losing their DH on more than an occasional basis. Collins getting near everyday reps requires there to be 3 catchers on the roster. Its a little easier to navigate when he plays 1B, but we all know Abreu will be at 1B most of the time.
  7. Because Collins isn't get 500 at bats if he is the backup catcher.
  8. Sox should say no to that. I'd love to get Q, but I am not giving up Dunning to get him. And frankly, we could use Colome next year as well.
  9. Grandal, Wheeler, Calhoun (or Dickerson), Abreu, Wood and top 5-7 available pen arm would be a very nice offseason. I do feel like Hahn is likely to plug RF via the trade route though.
  10. This all sounds great and dandy. But it is really only a realistic scenario if Grandal is brought on board.
  11. McCann is controlled through 2020 as is.
  12. Nice post. Though I still would love to see the Sox replace Ricky. Mainly because I just hate his in game managing decisions and lineup construction. But I know he'll be back.
  13. We're on the same page, my friend.
  14. Madrigal is our 2B for the next 7 seasons. Don't really see what trading him solves as it just creates another hole we need to fill. No thanks.
  15. Legitimate in the size. There are a lot of them.
  16. Yah. That's just not going to happen, nor should it. We didn't rebuild to trade half of our young core players for a guy with 2 years of control.
  17. Conforto is great. He'd likely also cost a fortune to acquire. They'd probably want Robert or Kopech. Which obviously is a non starter. But realistically to get a deal done, definitely one of Madrigal/Vaughn would be included. Definitely one of the next tier of prospects Dunning/Walker/Stiever. Then a couple more guys we'd rather not part with. I just don't see it as very realistic, thought I do agree he'd be a fantastic fit, albeit 2 years is a little less than I'd want to acquire when giving up what it would require.
  18. Nimmo is literally exactly what this team needs in RF. Very high OBP. Controlled for 3 years. Plays above average defense. His warts are his injury history, but without that, he would't be available.
  19. Potential 2021 lineup maybe. I'd put Adolfo in RF over Walker at this juncture though.
  20. Yah...it has been discussed ad nauseam and not really a great fit for a Moncada thread. But what we need in RF, this FA market does not provide.
  21. I think it could get done without any of our top 4 prospects or any major pieces already at the MLB level. I've previously suggested Steiver + Rutherford + Cody Heuer. I think that gets you close, if not there.
  22. There is actually a legitimate contingent of White Sox fans on twitter that want to trade for 1 year of Mookie Betts. People - the Sox may find themselves in contention next August. But they didn't go through this process to trade Madrigal, Vaughn or Cease ++ to acquire 1 year of an impending free agent in first year of expected decency. Just pure lunacy. That is a deal the Sox maybe could consider another year or two down the line when the impending FA is the actual difference maker in what could be a legitimate WS contender. But not now.
  23. There is as close to a 0% chance as humanly possible than the Sox go into 2020 without a RF that is not currently on the roster.
