  1. The Yankees would be s good trade partner, since they do have some high upside position players but they're further down the line in their development. How about this: Shark to the Yankees for Dermis Garcia (17yo 3B), Miguel Flames (17yo C) and Jorge Mateo (MIF 19yo). The center in this deal would Dermis Garcia, who was the Yankees top July 2nd signing in terms of price last year at $3M and he profiles as a guy who can hit 30 homers a year and he has elite bat speed. He was signed as a shortstop but he was listed at 6'3 and 200lbs and as he fills out expect his long term home to be on the corners, Kiley McDaniel mentions third, first and left being possibilities. He did put on some extra weight, which is to be expected for a LA prospect coming to America but expect that calm down as he enters a major league training program. His swing reminds me of Alex Rodriguez and the amount of potential he has is unreal, especially with the bat.

QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Jul 23, 2015 -> 08:35 AM) Gotta fall into the other camp. I thought the shootout was pedestrian, and badly forced into the episode to add some action to an otherwise dull and uneventful season. It's not dull, more has happened in the first 4 episodes of season 2 than all of season 1. And the psychosphere is larger this time around. While season 1 was lighter and easier to grasp, season 2 is full of allegories, clues, suspects, etc while being very dark. Nic Pizzalatto defnitely put a lot into the first few episodes of the second season and is really taking his time to tell this story and based on the first 5 episodes there is going to be a serious pay off. Watch every episode of the season again and after each episode read these or just read them, this season is anything but dull. http://www.polygon.com/2015/6/30/8869875/t...cters-plot-help http://www.polygon.com/2015/7/7/8901145/tr...iew-walkthrough http://www.polygon.com/2015/7/15/8962955/t...t-mexican-drugs http://www.polygon.com/2015/7/22/9011429/t...plot-help-recap
  3. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jul 23, 2015 -> 02:10 AM) Still remain in the #9 slot. 1.5 GB of Oakland for 8th pick. 10.5 GB of Phillies for 1st pick. Hoping for a top 5 pick.
  4. I would love the Sox main focus over the course of the next three years (since they always talk about a the year window) to be infrastructure as they just worry about building up the organization's talent base through the minors.

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 21, 2015 -> 09:03 PM) Supposedly, TD is going to have an orgy scene, possibly with Ani, in one of the upcoming episodes. Good enough for me. Yes, they filmed a massive orgy sequence in LA and hired pornstars as extras, ironically they'll won't be the ones indulging in all the fun sex stuff.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 20, 2015 -> 09:43 PM) Please elaborate. The tracking shot from the first season was incredible, one of the best action sequences in TV history. The shootout in last week's episode was entertaining but nothing special. I guess I don't get the comparison. The shootout at episode 4 was amazing, one of things that made it better than the long shot from the first season was that I didn't know who was going to survive, we all knew that Rust was going to make it out alive, we just didn't know how. In the shootout, I really feared for all the characters. Why I really like it? The shootout was a perfect mix of grit and glamour, while being very grotesque. Not because of the gore that was in the scene (Dixon gets his head blown off and a civilian is shot in the head at point blank range) but because of how realistic it was. This want just mindless action either as there was a ton of character in this scene, this is especially true for Paul, who steals the scene. Throughout the previous three episodes we have been hearing about his military past and that payed off here in a big way as he single handedly wins the gunfight. Remember the rain of gunfire that the cops encountered when they came onto the scene, Paul gets them out of it. Remember the scene where Paul is in Ray's car and he is talking about not knowing who he is and not knowing where he belongs, in the shootout he was right in his element. Another thing that made it very realistic was the added presence of the civilian protesters and the pimp at the end. Imagine a shooutout breaking out in the middle of the Baltimore Protest? Imagine all the innocent people being shot by misfire and stay bullets. You see that in True Detective. I also like how the pimp at the end realized his impending doom and was like f*** IT, so he kills the hostage prompting Ray and Paul to kill him. It was really well shot as it was easy to follow while going back and forth between the three characters' perspectives, while making you feel like you were right in the middle of the action. The way it was edited allowed for natural intensity and it didn't rely on a filmmaking trick (long shot) to create tension. The best shootout since Heat.
  7. Would love to see Hayward in a sox jersey next year, God knows the team needs the defensem
  8. The Yankees are said to be pursuing Craig Kimbrel
  9. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jul 20, 2015 -> 03:12 PM) It would take an awful lot. They are not in a "win now" mode that Sox fans are used going "all in". They are planning a long period of success. They have Seager sitting there ready to step in for Rollins next season, so unless it is Sale involved in a deal, I dont think they will be including Seager in anything as they dont really have much in the way of options to fill that spot next season without making another deal and the FA SS market is not good. You're right, different teams have different realities. My thinking is that with their payroll flexibility, the Dodgers would be willing to part with a prospect, despite them saying otherwise. And while the FA SS market isn't looking that good, there are some current SS's with multi year deals that they could trade for, like Starlin Castro for example. They are on the lookout for pitching and I would try to center a deal around Quintana and Tim Anderson for Seager and a low level guy.
  10. I don't know where else to post this, but if I were Rick Hahn I would be calling the Dodgers to see what it would take to get Corey Seager. They're in a win now mode and if the Sox were to put something together that could bring them closer to the championship, they would have to consider it.

QUOTE (Knuckles @ Jul 20, 2015 -> 12:02 AM) Some folks on my twitter feed saying, TD2 got really crazy at the end of EP4 and really good EP5, making a come back? It's following the exact same structure as the first season. I loved the shootout at the end of the fourth episode, which is just as tense and action packed as the tracking shot from the first season but for different reasons.

That episode of TD was better than the last, they're moving full stream ahead.

  14. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 13, 2015 -> 10:34 AM) Why do you feel like people dont like these movies because there is not as much humor as Marvel? That is the last of any reasons I dont like Man of Steel, and also the last of any reasons I thought BvS trailer looked like a mess. I think the original script for X3 can be found on the internet and it sounds like that could've been amazing, they should have waited for Bryan Singer to finish Superman Returns. The finished product was literally conceived in a few weeks as they had to meet the start date of production and that's what you get when you hire Brett Ratner. Also the script to the Deadpool movie has been on the internet since 2011 and is still out there. It's really good, if anybody feels inclined to read it. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 13, 2015 -> 10:34 AM) BvS looks like a soup with every possible ingredient thrown in, hoping that something stands out. Usually when movies are made like that, they end up pretty bland (XMen 3: The Last Stand) and pretty bad. The movie from a plot standpoint seems to be a pretty natural profession from Man of Steel. Superman is not only being held responsible for the damage that occurred in the MoS finale and has Batman investigating him, but Snyder and Nolan said that the arrival of Superman inspires the other members of the JL to come out and see what is happening as they have all been affected/inspired by the events of the film. The amount of world building that movie did was nuts. And I wouldn't compare it to X3, where quality story telling was clearly sacrificed in exchange for quick cash. Remember BvS was supposed to come out on 7/17/15 but Zack Snyder and WB pushed the movie back to May of 2016 so that they could have some time to get the script and story right. And there's more talent in front of and behind the camera on BvS than compared to X3. And let's not condem the movie or any movie for that matter before you see it. Oh, Self/Less was decent.
  15. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 13, 2015 -> 10:08 AM) Someone posted an in-theater (low quality) video of a teaser trailer for Rogue One. That was kind of a cool, unexpected thing this soon. Can't link it from here, but search on YT and you'll find it. They start filmming in two weeks.

  17. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jul 13, 2015 -> 08:54 PM) There are advantages to bringing him up this year if they think he is ready. 1. Get him used to the mlb coaches. 2. Get him used to the routine. 3. Expose him to mlb hitters to start the learning process. No need to start the clock on him this year, give me the extra year of control everytime
  18. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 13, 2015 -> 12:14 AM) If you substituted Ryan Reynolds, Gosling, Channing Tatum and Jake Gylenhaal for the four main leads, would it still be watchable? Half the reason it was endurable was the Friday Night Cinemax element. It was more like a series of set pieces thrown together haphazardly with about zero narrative cohesion. I guess you hated the comic too, because the film is the perfect adaptation, although he had to change the ending to fit the medium. It's panel to panel, bubble to bubble, the comic.

Great episode of True Detective. I like how Paul's sexuality isn't his defining character trait and that he isn't a stereotypical gay* character, he's three dimensional like the other three leads. I love how bad ass Ani is too, it's a shame that her story is going to end with this season. This is tube same show that people accused of being misogynistic and old fashioned in its views on masculinity, but it's two most compelling characters are a gay* and female cop. And that shootout was incredible, I was instantly reminded of Heat, but the best part of the shootout was the ending. I loved the juxtaposition between the three cops after the shootout, Ray is struggling to cope with what just happened and Ani is having a nervous breakdown, while Paul stands tall and casually puts his gun away acting like nothing happened. You know now that whatever he did in the desert was some heavy s***. Paul had a pretty big journey this episode, at the beginning he's pretty helpless but during the shootout he was completely in his element. A lot of people have been saying negative things about Vince Vaughn's performance, I think he's killing it. Yeah some of his dialouge sounds clunky and unnatural but it's supposed to sound that way. Frank came from humble beginnings and now he finds himself amongst the elite and no matter how hard he tries to be legitimate, he's always going to be a thug at heart. And in order to be taken seriously by his peers, he's probably spent countless hours in front of dictionaries (something my grandfather had us do) trying to learn big words so he can fit in, yet it still feels unnatural because h he's always going to be that gangster. Great episode.
  20. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Jul 12, 2015 -> 12:28 AM) Could not possibly disagree more. Man of Steel was a mess and just about everything from Snyder recently has sucked. I have no reason to think this won't suck as well and a couple decent trailers won't change my opinion given that the trailers for Man of Steel were also well done. Why did you think it was a mess? And Snyder is a very good director, Watchmen is a great movie, 300 is very well done and was a bit a cultural phenomenon when it came out, although Sucker Punch had its faults it is still entertaining. I haven't seen Legends of the Guardians but the children in my family loved it.
  21. QUOTE (OilCan @ Jul 11, 2015 -> 03:33 PM) I thought Man of Steel was one of the best movies of 2013 and the Superman movie that I always wanted to see. Its amazing how much world building that did for the DCEU and of looks like BvS is going to take that even further. Good choice by Zack Snyder and co. to make Bruce Wayne our 'in' character, it's going to be amazing to see Batman realize that he is just a man amongst gods, it's going to be awesome experiencing that alongside him. It's cool that Batman has been active for 20 years and is a weary veteran. I felt like I was one of the few people who liked the Wonder Woman casting and after seeing the trailer, I feel a bit validated. This looks like Snyder unleashed and it looks f***ing awesome. I can go on and on, I'm really excited for this.
  22. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 11, 2015 -> 10:55 AM) dream that he had...or he had a dream that he had ADD, haha? could be too quite different results there depending upon the interpretation A dream that he had as a teenager, sorry blame it on the tablet.
  23. QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Jul 11, 2015 -> 04:44 PM) Im not a huge comic book guy so this may be a dumb question, but unless the name is misleading, wouldnt Superman be able to dismantle Batman pretty effortlessly? Superman could easily kill Batman but this is Superman, he dosen't want to kill anybody so when he fights Batman he will take a more evasive approach. Batman knows that Superman could easily kill him, so he takes a series of precautions like the armored power suit and kryptonite to give himself a chance.
