  1. QUOTE (scs787 @ Feb 19, 2016 -> 10:47 AM) As far as Sanchez playing 3rd....They can always just play him at 2nd and move Lawrie to 3rd when Todd needs a day off. If Sanchez is not starting at 2B, and I doubt he does, he should be playing every day in Charlotte. He really isn't ideal as utility unless he can play SS as a backup.
  2. QUOTE (Dunt @ Feb 18, 2016 -> 03:24 PM) Honestly, Yadiel could work out well for this team. From the sounds of it, he isn't really regarded as a potential star, but does have some upside. Scouts have seen him more as a 4th OFer type along the lines of a Daniel Nava. While that might not be all that exciting, it could allow the Sox to give Avi the first crack and then bring him up in May or June. We should have signed Nava when he was availablein December. Angels may cut him this spring so Hahn may get a 2nd chance.
  3. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Feb 17, 2016 -> 11:13 AM) Agree. I'll take anyone. Mets may be willing to trade DeAza for a reliever.................................
  4. QUOTE (Dunt @ Feb 16, 2016 -> 06:25 PM) I think they are the worst division personally. I think the Jays and Red Sox are the best teams and they have some pretty obvious weaknesses. I think the Rangers and Stros are better than any teams in that division and I think the central is gonna be a slugfest. Now I am not as big on Tampa Bay as BP. Boston, however, is probably the best 1-9 offense in baseball, great bench, solid bullpen and questionable starting rotation. Toronto is another loaded offensive team that like Boston if they get staring pitching will be a top tier team. I don't think Cleveland is as good as BP projects and KC as bad.
  5. QUOTE (Dunt @ Feb 16, 2016 -> 11:38 AM) I dont see the AL East being that good at all I think they are the best division in AL top to bottom.
  6. QUOTE (GREEDY @ Jan 28, 2016 -> 11:01 AM) By 2025 there will be iPads that rise out of the seat backs between innings showing replays and adverts. By 2025, you won't be going to the stadium, it will be coming to you.
  7. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Feb 15, 2016 -> 01:12 PM) To be honest, I'm not much of a believer in luck. Certain players just need to perform up to their career averages which, to me, is more about focus/repetition/desire/outlook/working hard and things of that nature. I am to a degree mainly due to injuries. I think a lot of injuries in sports are bad luck. Some injuries do result from players not being in good shape or making careless plays. But a a batter getting hit by a pitch, taking a foul ball off the ankle/foot/knee or a pitcher taking a line drive off the bat can also change a team's fortunes and most are purely bad luck.
  8. QUOTE (oldsox @ Feb 15, 2016 -> 09:43 AM) I agree. Desmond and Fowler have one thing in common: They both should have taken their qualifying offers. Big mistakes. Now they are looking for some team to step in and make up for their agents's mistakes. Enter the White Sox. In the case of Desmond, Saladino is currently ticketed for SS. If Desmond comes in, he gets that gig, so whatever price the Sox pay (including loss of pick), that price has to justify the difference between the two players at short. The value is not there. Fowler is little more difficult to assess, because he is an outfielder who can play all three positions. But still, he is probably not worth the price. Desmond should be an easy decision: No. Fowler, not so easy. I agree with all you say. But I wonder how much the "Cubs" will affect the final decisions made on the roster. The White Sox need to find a way to gather attention in a market that will be all over the Cubs this year. They need to stay in the race for a playoff spot. So maybe the final decisions on guys like Desmond or Fowler may not be as much on value as perception and a chance to stay in contention.
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 14, 2016 -> 06:56 PM) So, just for the record, you could have actually posted what payroll number you seem to think the Sox can have, and instead you personally attacked me. Just remember that next time you ask someone else a question. Give the person a break. He tried to change the subject by posting some legit questions but you chose to regurgitate the payroll issue. Time to drop the childish antics.
  10. QUOTE (LDF @ Feb 14, 2016 -> 04:03 PM) now if this is all done, the one question i wanted to asked since yesterday is this. let say the sox trade for an OF'er, 1. would all be happy here??? my answer is yes..... i can live as i said yesterday with Avi as a platoon with laroche at the dh. at SS, some poster made a comment last week of maybe anderson will be ready at mid season. i can see saladino at SS, for a 1/2 season or more. but if anderson hit and continues to hit in ST, should the sox keep him up???? I'll start w the last. It does depend on when he hit. The first half of spring training is filled w abs against ML pitchers often working on something or minor league pitchers getting a ST look. If Anderson hits well against ML pitching later in the spring and fields his position at ML qulity, he show stay up when the team heads north. In regards to an Of, it depends on the price if it is a trade. The Sox need to beef up their farm and a trade that deletes several of their top prospects better be for a can't miss type OF. Trading a bullpen piece for an OF would be a better alternative if it yields a good return.
  11. QUOTE (LDF @ Feb 13, 2016 -> 02:45 PM) i really like your post, and ref the bold, it can be done by not going to the games. that seems to be the only way to get his attention. this way, the sox owners will have to go and invest more, instead of the token amount they spend 120 mil. Not sure that is true. Sox attendance has dropped from 24,000+ to 21,000 + the last 5 years. If revenue( TV +) is up and attendance is down there may not be a big enough incentive to spend more money.
  12. QUOTE (Vance Law @ Feb 12, 2016 -> 10:59 PM) Thanks for the info. Also important to note. exactly zero other teams are willing to meet Desmond or Fowler's current demands. They'll come down. Desmond has absolutely nowhere else to go before June. Not true. If a SS gets injured in ST, especially on a team projected to contend, he will have a job in no time.
  13. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Feb 12, 2016 -> 09:09 AM) You make some very good points. The way I se it is, if I'm OK with Frazier's hot start in '15 and his second half collapse, then I'm fine with Desmond's first half collapse and second half rebound. Adding Desmond wouldnt be the worst move the Sox could make. I'd take the gamble. What 2nd half rebound. He hit .190 in July and .220 in September. He had a good May and a good August. Defensively his number of errors has increased each year over the last 3 seasons. I would be concerned as a SS he is on the decline.
  14. Offseason is over. I just saw a clip where Tampa Bay Rays held an informal workout at the Trop yesterday. Pitchers and catchers report in ....................................................
  15. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Feb 8, 2016 -> 10:07 PM) I think the concern is that the team that came dead last in offense last year is still below average offensively in nearly half the spots in the lineup (Garcia, LaRoche, Saladino, and Cabrera), at least as the roster is presently constituted. That and the corner outfield defense are particularly troublesome going into this season at the moment. Most if not all teams have at least 1 defensive spot in their lineup. So the Sox can live w Saladino's offense if he can play defense at SS. Cabrera pretty much produced as expected. His RBI total was much better than his career average and his BA was 10 points below. But he is not what you really want from a power standpoint from a corner OF. I think they needed 1 more bat but the offense looks to be slightly below average. So they have to hope the pitching improves enough to make up for some of the offense. I think that will be a problem because their starters were pretty much healthy last year so tough to expect the same again this year. The pen should be better w Jones back for a full season.
  16. We could combine threads. They could sign the Gurriels and then move the team to Havana. JR could make a killing.........................
  17. QUOTE (Dunt @ Feb 7, 2016 -> 12:25 AM) Sources say Ian Desmond is having on-going conversations with the #Cardinals, #WhiteSox, #BlueJays. NOTE:he has said he's willing to play OF Today's Tampa Tribune indicates Rays may also be involved since he is a Sarasota native and his price has dropped.
  18. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Feb 7, 2016 -> 02:07 AM) With the Jays, 2b if Travis is out and SS for Tulowitzki. Also DH, with Colabello far from a sure repeater performance-wise. Have said all along he would be a decent or potentially above-average outfielder if he had enough time to prepare. With the White Sox, he would provide insurance at 2b, SS, DH and relegate Saladino to a bench role. If they can't afford Austin Jackson or Desmond Jennings, I'm coming around on Shane Victorino because he can hit lefties and has been a valuable performer on a string of playoff/World Series teams. Guerrero or Kiki Hernandez, they need to improve that bench somehow. Cards have been considering moving Peralta from SS for awhile now, fwiw. http://www.rotochamp.com/baseball/PlayerRa...spx?Position=SS Victorino is a DL trip waiting to happen. When a player, as Victorino did last week, says "he has never been in better physical condition" red flags should go up.
  19. It is interesting that the eventual signing of Cespedes did not trigger a domino effect w Jackson or Fowler as some speculated. Maybe there is a very limited market for them so the contenders are in no hurry to make quick decisions.
  20. QUOTE (beck72 @ Feb 1, 2016 -> 08:30 PM) Desmond likely will be traded by the Rays. His $3.3 mill. salary for a 4th OFer is way to rich for their liking. The A's article said they could get Desmond for a B level prospect. It should take more than that. But the Sox would be better off with a healthy Desmond-give you a 3 WAR-for the cost [$3.3 mill. this year, maybe $4 mill. next) rather than Fowler for three years at $10 mill. per. The Sox need a good, versatile glove and who has a bat with upside. An outfielder coming off knee surgery is a gamble. Better off seeing how he does in ST. There is some indication Tampa added outfield depth because Jennings may struggle to regain his previous ability. But if he can be had for a B prospect, might be worth a shot.
  21. QUOTE (Dunt @ Feb 1, 2016 -> 05:02 PM) They can ask for Q or Rodon, but there is 0.0% chance he could net either. Dude was f***ing awful last year. He was basically Avi Garcia. Then offer them Avi............................
  22. QUOTE (2005thxfrthmmrs @ Feb 1, 2016 -> 12:16 PM) Also, assuming Saladino could handle SS with solid defense, which is very likely, he'd have a much higher floor than Avi. Anyone know if Saladino played fall/winter ball somewhere to work at SS???
  23. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 1, 2016 -> 12:51 PM) Knowing Frank, he needs the money. Could he DH against lefties???
  24. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 31, 2016 -> 02:46 PM) I think I read somewhere that every major league team either averaged using eight starting pitchers...or actually had a minimum of using eight different starters over the course of the 2015 season. 8 seems high but I think it is fair to say we can expect the White Sox to need a 6th starter this year since one of our 5 will go down w some injury ( and /or Johnson or Danks will struggle). I thought they would add someone but they must be confident they have enough depth internally.
