Yeah, me too. I think it's because except for Robert, who actually has learned to quit waving at junk out of the strike zone and has decided to bash strikes and not wave at balls, most of the other players are very unlikeable. Often our best hitters go 1 for 4 or 0 for 4 with the weakest, most selfish at bats. I think a lot of us got worn out by selfish baseball and with nobody to root for individually, we kind of 'hate' this pathetic team.

The first 4 hitters went 7/16 and the last 5 went 1/16. Team had 1 walk and 9 SO. At least they played error free.  By any chance do we have a pitcher on the roster that has a better bat than any of bottom 5?

  2. Colas deserves to be back in Chicago.  But now the timing is kind of odd. If Colas returns and hopefully is permanent in RF, where does that put Eloy?  I would have hoped he was playing some in RF to try and increase his trade value at the deadline. If he returns to only DH his value drops even lower.  It seems like Eloy will not be traded as just a DH but maybe some team sees him playing in the outfield or the Sox just figure he is a permanent DH.

I think SoxFest will be back.  I think they were just cowards and didn’t want to be criticized for a shitty 2022 season.

Maybe in 2030 as long as they are still in Chicago

Three guys for him? They'll be lucky to get a couple of class A prospects and that's only if they pay a large portion of his remaining salary.

Besides according to Whitesox.com today he's not projected to return until August... past the deadline...the Sox are stuck with him until after the 2024 season.

Of course this being the White Sox he'll sign with Cleveland or Baltimore and promptly turn into the guy who was considered the #1 prospect in all of baseball. 😆

The number doesn't make a difference. There will be player(s) coming back and there will be cash going out.  But most likely there will be 1 prospect and a couple of players we will never hear from again. Most likely the cash amount will swing the deal as this looks like a lost cause.

Sorry you'll miss my appreciation for your comment. JR got it right once with this team, he'll do it again. But a sale to a ownership group that will move it to it's own market would be interesting. Oakland has a stadium in need of a tenant.

San Francisco to Oakland is only 12 miles or so. If a new owner wants a change of scenery, I think they may want an area that is open to a new market. But Oakland did survive w Frisco years ago so who knows.

I'll believe the White Sox are losing money when they open their books and let them be examined by an accounting specialist.

MLB is now a 10 billion dollar a year industry, the income being generated by domestic and international sources has never been higher.

That's part of the issue...as long as JR is sound financially regardless of the won/loss record why should he even care anymore...especially at his age.

I think that could be the story.  If a team is sound financially, some owners could care less about the record. Not all because some owners want success on the field as way.  But maybe JR is happy to keep getting the checks

I never understood why an organization, who believes it is a World Series contender, would hire a rookie manager with no managerial experience other than being a coach.

Right off the bat, Alex Cora and Aaron Boone. They both were WS contenders who had never managed in minor league or majors. Both were 12 year as active players though and  Boone went from player, broadcast booth to manager.

I appreciate your take, but comparing Rick Hahn to Chris Antonetti is comparing apples to oranges.

    Here are the differences:

Antonetti has been with the Guardians for 24 years in much more successful winning culture and worked in a lot more critical positions than Hahn.

The Cleveland winning tradition and culture is light years ahead of the White Sox especially in terms of building a top ranked farm system on a consistent basis.

Since the Guardians have never been able to spend big free agent dollars being in a small market environment, they needed to concentrate and be great at building a strong farm system. Antonetti has been able to learn those scouting, drafting and developing lessons in a much stronger winning culture than the Sox. Over the years the Guardians have always had one of the top ranked farm systems. Obviously the Sox have not.

Antonetti had the valuable experience working and learning from winners like Mike Chernoff and Mark Shapiro.

Antonetti hired Francona back in 2012 and in that same time, the Sox hired Ventura, Renteria, LaRussa and Grifol.

As you said, the academic background helps, but we can see now, as you clearly pointed out, "it's what you learn and accomplish along the way during your front office experience."

Clearly Hahn hasn't learned very well along the way, but more importantly, Hahn didn't have the winning culture to be exposed around, like you would have in for example in the Guardians, Rays and the Dodgers organizations.

I would also add that the FO structure has a lot to do with results. Hahn, as GM. may not have the power that Antonetti has. I understand that Francona has been a very good hire in Cleveland and the 4 managers since Ozzie have been "average".

Bottom line, we don't really know the influence JR and Williams have in running the White Sox. I would think Williams and /or Hahn  should have been let go by now. Since that hasn't happened,  JR may be please with their efforts or just doesn't have a clue what is happening............or both..

Hahn has always been full of s%*# and obviously a disastrous GM.

When you look back at his credentials, why would we expect him to be good as a GM? Ok after he graduated from Michigan he went to Harvard law school and then got an MBA from Northwestern. Those are fine academic achievements, but they have nothing to do with judging baseball prospects, judging ML pro players, drafting, developing a strong farm system, negotiating solid trades and signing productive free agent, etc.

His first job after all the college was as an sports agent which has nothing to do with prearing to be a good GM.

Then his second job he somehow lucked into the assistant GM under Kenny.

Here is what we do know:

    1. He never played baseball.

    2. He never was a baseball scout.

    3. He never learned the various aspects of a successful baseball organization by moving up the ranks and doing different meaningful positions.

    4. Then when Hahn did fail miserably as GM, the owner was ignorant, stubborn and ridiculously loyal to a detrimental point, in not firing Hahn. This of course is the basic definition of Insanity.

Just my take but Chris Antonetti won GM of the year last year for the Indians. Cleveland had a very good year and Antonetti was rewarded.  But Look back at Antonetti 's career which is very similar to Hahn's  He had the same basic academic career. Neither one was a player. Antonetti worked his way up in the Front Office and was a few years behind Hahn. So it is not the background as much as what the MLB executive accomplished along the way.  From appearances,  the Front Office and Francona and his staff have done a good job running the Indians without breaking the Bank. The Front Office for the White Sox and several managers and staff also have not broken the Bank but they have not accomplished much either.

Vaughn is hitting .237 this year, and in 1189 career at bats he's hitting .251. Those are not the numbers expected from a #3 overall pick. It looks like he's just average offensively and below average defensively. He's still young, so maybe he'll still find "it", but 1189 at bats is no longer a small sample size.

I don't think he will ever be average or better defensively.  That is a concern since he is closer to DH than even being a 1B.  I keep hoping the offense will go from .237 to . 290 ish but that is a long jump at this stage.

  11. Ohtani is 6'4" and weighs 210. Acceptable size for a 2 guard in NBA.  He will give up the Angels and will go tonight in the later 1st round of the NBA Draft.

My only bright side is I do think they have players that actually have value. Gio they should move now - don’t risk and injury or a slump, move on him early and get max value (say Dbacks or Reds) and like to do same with Kelly cause he’s a walking injury but I feel like relievers are more valuable as you get closer to deadline - same with Graverman but I still say with a lot of teams still in it - be an early seller.

Cease has been much more like last year in past 5 starts (stroking out tons of guys - needs to pitch deeper though - but stuff has been elite). I’d love to keep him but it ain’t reality - his value is still really high and yeah, maybe you get more next year if he’s pitching like last year - but I think with him, you know he’s walking next year and current version would still be one of very best arms on market - so capitalize on that and make your move (vs risk an injury and you get nothing).

The above should get you 5 good chips - maybe one elite prospect and two other very good prospects (I think Cease is worth an elite prospect and a very good one plus some lower level guys or maybe some raw relief type arms or like a bat with no position type). Gio gets you maybe one very good and another borderline top 100 type? Graverman gets you one or two decent prospects - maybe more raw?

TA - Not sure what you get for him now? Is this his last year or do we have one more? If one more I honestly think I keep him and hope you get a bounce back cause man we would be trading him at such a low. Clearly hurt or just miserable.

I probably hold Hendricks and hope he recovers and is himself 2nd half of this year or at very least has good first half next year and he is top closer at next deadline.

Or…just move guys in contract years and offer 10yrs 600M to ohtani. Haha.

I don't think the Front Office will move Cease. They did the "redo' with Sale and company and here we are again.  Just my opinion, but I think the roster will make a few  "big " moves  like Gio and TA so Hahn/Williams look like they are making major moves.  But it may be just shuffling the deck around.

True, but getting in the playoffs this year in this division is a hell of a lot easier than getting in the playoffs from the AL East.  A shitty team from the AL Central will make the playoffs while a few decent to good teams will miss the playoffs because of their division.

I agree with Jimmy though that making the playoffs allows teams to have a new chance of making a run. Different sport, but we just saw Miami going to the Finals as an 8 seed with several key players injured.

I’ve been coasting off the fumes of growing up a White Sox fan.  I’ve tuned them out in current times.  I read about them obviously but can’t justify spending time watching them.  As a new part time Florida resident I do get enjoyment out of following the Rays and watching them.  I thought I would find it difficult but it hasn’t really been difficult.  I may even buy a partial Ray’s season ticket package next year.

Rays are usually a very good team playing in a pretty  awful environment.  Rays are edging ahead of Kc for attendance this season but time will tell.

Oh boy, the Sox stink. We lose again, 4-3. Poorly constructed ballclub with a rookie manager. Puke.

The Celtics beat the Sixers with Doc Rivers the last two games with a "really" rookie manager this season. Managers do have some input but the organization and the players are the real key.

  16. "I’d lean towards no." is how Hahn responded to the Sox 38 game performance so far this season.  Hahn should be livid on the way he has handled this years's roster and the on-field performance of this team. It is not a "lean", it is..............................

This is the last post I’ll make about TA7 in this thread about the glory of Elvis Andrus, but I want to be clear: Pedro’s response indicated that Tim needed the day off. Tim did not get the day off. They half assed that decision like every other decision in this org.

Meanwhile GRINDERMAN Andrus doesn’t miss a PA!

Except you responded again 2 hours later.................

Sox office just did a salary dump.  Vaughn is much cheaper than Abreu.

Because he is.  Need to replace him before it is too late,

Don't look now but White Sox will go in to Tampa Bay series in Cell with a one game lead over  KC.
