  1. I have very little faith in Korey Lee so bringing in catching depth makes sense to me. Maldonado stinks, but maybe he can help the young pitchers. And I have no why idea people are mentioning $ as a concern at all. Who cares? The team stinks, the payroll is very low as is, and Getz isn’t/shouldn’t be looking to sign any free agents to multi year deals right now. Maldonado could make $1M or $8M and it’s 100% irrelevant
  2. Let the Reds keep Lowder and feel like they are getting a win. Arroyo, Petty, Phillips and Hector Rodriguez is still a great deal for the Sox
  3. The Orioles are owned and operated by a 94 year old man who has shown that he has no intentions of spending $ on the team. Orioles are going to have to wait another year or 2 when the team is sold to have hope of getting over the hump.
  4. This franchise has so many more holes to fill than just 2B and RF in the coming years that concentrating on any certain positions as the return is crazy. The next year should be about talent acquisition. Acquire as much young talent as possible (and take some chances on vets to flip) and figure out roster construction later. Don’t get me wrong, I didn’t really like the pick, but they did just use the 15th overall pick on Gonzalez who likely ends up at 2B (wouldn’t say Sosa or Popeye are dead in the water yet either). Also not crazy to think that Colas figures it out and fills the RF hole. Bottom line- get the most talent back as possible regardless of position. The only obvious pitfall to avoid would be getting too many 1B/DH types like the Sox have done previously…not sure that’s a worry with Getz prioritizing defense and athleticism tho.
  5. If Wyatt Langford were to be on the table from the Rangers could he possibly be the best available option and almost force Getz to take a lesser total/quantity package? Would you do- Wyatt Langford, Brock Porter, Josh Stephan and Echedry Vargas for Cease?
  6. I’m not arguing any of that. I listed him 1st only because he was the only major leaguer in the deal. The hypothetical deal I posted was 5 of the Reds top 10 prospects….plus India thrown in as a roll of the dice gamble that he could figure it out with a change of scenery. If the Reds value India too much then take him out of the deal, no problem.
  7. Why would you be so against taking a shot on a change of scenery scenario for India? Crazier things have happened. He doesn’t cost anything salary wise and is far from the highlight of the deal. Just a throw in gamble.
  8. I’d personally have 0 problem adding another 3-4 guys, but that’s a whole different discussion. But to answer your original question…only 2 of those 6 would need to be on the 40, India and Phillips. None of Arroyo, Petty, Stewart, or Cabrera were drafted/signed before 2021.
  9. With the amount of trash on the Sox 40 does it really matter?
  10. Cease and Eloy to Reds for: Jonathan India, Edwin Arroyo, Connor Phillips, Chase Petty, Sal Stewart, and Ricardo Cabrera Reds keep Marte and Lowder but give up 1/2 of their top 10 for the Sox “haul” Also frees up $ for the Sox to take shots in free agency on guys to flip later for more prospects later.
  11. Not sure I’d pencil Walker in there….def not at #2. He didn’t touch the field in the playoffs and he also had some negative comments about the team in the media after the season. Wouldn’t surprise if he wasn’t on the team.
  12. Maybe they just aren’t interested, but I’m surprised at not really seeing much rumored interest from the DBacks. Cease fills a need for a team looking to capitalize on and sustain their success from last year without breaking their budget. Also think Tommy Troy and Yu-Min Lin is as strong of a start to a package as we could ask for.
  13. Call me crazy, but I really don’t care what positions we get back for Cease. Just want Getz and co to be smart and maximize value. This team is so far away from actually competing (not just for the central) that trying to get prospects for certain positions is a pointless worry. And like it or not, Robert is going to have to be traded before this rebuild of the rebuild is finished so whatever you don’t get for Cease you can address later in a Robert trade if need be. If you’re being realistic, who whinin the entire organization are we confidently penciling into the 2025 lineup/pitching staff? Montgomery and ….? Obviously we have some other prospects to be hopeful of, but the void of talent is so glaring that thinking we need to focus on any certain positions is kinda crazy to me honestly.
  14. 5/135 for Glasnow and his career high 120 IP at age 30…how is Cease at 2/18-20(ish) not worth a king’s ransom?
  15. Not difficult to argue that the underspending by a lot of owners is just as big of a problem.
  16. Maybe…but do they actually want 2 year deals? Maybe a player option, but most of those guys would rather have a 1 year deal so they can cash in on a multi year deal after. Doesn’t really make sense for them to sign a multi year deal when their value isn’t as high as it should/could be
  17. I really don’t think it’s “priced out”, it just doesn’t really make sense for the Sox to be in on relatively expensive multi year deals right now. Signing a decent #3 starter to a multi year doesn’t help anything. The last thing I want Getz to be doing is plugging holes on this sinking ship of a roster. I suspect they’ll take a shot on a 1 year “prove it” type of contract they can flip at the deadline if it works out.
  18. Sounds like he will come to the Sox for cheap, but even if it was $7M does it really matter? Overpaying the backup C by $4M next year will be the least of our worries. Not sure there’s even a logical way Getz can get the payroll to $150M without doing more damage than good. Payroll isn’t even on my mind for 2024, it’s irrelevant.
  19. Would love to see the details of the deferred $. Ohtani is going to be getting checks for $5M a year until he’s 65.
  20. I wonder if the Rays are crafty enough to sell off Glasnow and then trade for Cease. Would be a very Rays move.
  21. None of the Dodgers top prospects are super enticing like other systems but a package that starts with Rushing and De Paula isn’t too shabby. Unfortunately, like Busch, most of their pitching prospects are 25+. Rushing + De Paula + Pages + a lotto ticket arm would be hard to say no to though
  22. Fair enough, like I said, only looked at 1 list. Of course it’s all subjective. Basallo is a stud and likely deserves to be top 3, and I can see Kjerstad being dinged because of his age. Cowser and Mayo is probably a toss up depending on who you ask tho…and wether they are 3 or 4 is pretty irrelevant. My (hopefully) realistic offer to the Orioles would be Kjerstad, Mayo, Horvath and Juan Nunez. Still leaves them with Holliday, Cowser, Basallo, and Norby ready to make an impact within the next 2 years. They obviously need the TOR arm and have an embarrassment of riches when it comes to young talented position players.
  23. Was going by last year’s mlb pipeline(Holliday, Cowser, Kjerstad) . Do you graduate Cowser and Kjerstad as “not prospects” after a cup of coffee in the majors last year? Wouldn’t shock me if Basallo was good enough at such a young age to jump at least 1 of them tho.
  24. The Orioles system is honestly drool worthy. You can skip their top 3 prospects and still come up with a great package for Cease Basallo, Mayo, Norby, Beavers, Horvah…if we could get 3 of those 5 + a young arm it’s a heck of a deal
