  1. QUOTE (WilliamTell @ May 23, 2017 -> 10:54 PM) I'm definitely OK with the offseason trades, but imagine where this team would be with Sale pitching every 5 days instead of Covey who basically gives up a run an inning. Doesn't take much imagining to know the Sox still wouldn't be a playoff team
  2. 294 AB's in '14 at AAA and 298 AB's last year in the majors. Other than that he hasn't really shown the ability to be a competent hitter above high A. I think he's just hitting like...Tyler Saladino, which is a glove 1st bench player. Nice utility infielder to have on the bench, but I'd say your expectations were too high if you were expecting him to be a good hitter this year.
  3. To me the obvious problem is that he tries to pull every pitch, regardless of location or speed. Can't be a major league hitter like that unless you have ridiculously fast and strong hands. Frazier isn't that guy. The only pitches he's going to hit are mistakes since every pitcher in baseball is going to know what he's looking for and how he's going to swing. And the sad part is that he's going on 700-800 PA's like this and there have been 0 adjustments. Don't see it changing anytime soon either, he's pretty much toast as far as I'm concerned. Unfortunately he's most likely going to be trotted out there on a daily basis for the foreseeable future. Chicago White Sox: where hitters go to die. It really is crazy
  4. QUOTE (ron883 @ May 4, 2017 -> 01:42 AM) In the world of 1st basemen. And yet it was good for 10th best in the league last year for 1B...so again, in what world does 10th out of 32 = pedestrian? Your expectations are just way too high based on his 1st year. Considering what he is paid relative to the other top 1B getting an .820 OPS out of him is perfectly fine. Now him not being a full time DH is another discussion...but out of all the things wrong with the Sox organization you seriously choose to spend your time and energy bashing Abreu's hitting?
  5. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for tanking and everything...but WOW that lineup is awful.
  6. QUOTE (Tony @ Apr 15, 2017 -> 02:44 PM) Except that isn't the same thing, at all. Blaming Hahn for this is such a simplistic approach to the situation. Explain to me how it's not the same thing. Because it is. Fans expect athletes to be like robots, but I don't care who you are, if your mind isn't in the right place you're not going to perform your best. It's unrealistic to think Q was just going to show up to spring training like nothing was going on and be at his best to prepare for the season. I'm not saying Hahn is the reason Q is pitching poorly, because at the end of the day it is on him to make pitches. But to act like he didn't have huge distractions going on in the offseason that is directly leading to his bad start is a "simplistic approach to the situation." It could have been avoided is all I'm saying. Either keep your business out of the media, or actually trade the guy. 1 or the other.
  7. QUOTE (Tony @ Apr 15, 2017 -> 02:33 PM) Or you could perform like a professional. If you go to your job Monday morning and they tell you that they are doing everything in their power to make sure you don't work there anymore is your focus and performance going to be the same? No, no it's not. I'd bet Q was watching out for trade rumors everyday just like all of us were. How could he not?
  8. Idiotic to publicly try and trade a guy and expect him to pitch like normal. He's a human being and the distraction would be too much for anyone. Hahn really screwed this 1 up
  9. Hawk gets excited over a "tremendous" catch that Luery should have been standing under to catch...save the excitement Hawk, you don't have much left in you at this point
  10. Hopefully no clear evidence to overturn but pretty sure he's safe
  11. Robertson with the nasty curve tonight? Probably impossible to hit when you're expecting a 90+ mph cutter
  12. Santana makes a base running error and Jose just gives him the run. Shoulda have been dead out at home
  13. The White Sox as a team have probably 5 or 6 good swings tonight....let's hope the kids get called up sooner rather than later because it's going to be hard to watch the dreck for long. Not that I'm expecting much, but a major league AB shouldn't be too much to ask for.
  14. How much time do you think Hawk spends talking about the game in front of him? Maybe 10% of the time?
  15. Come on Davidson...those fastballs were 90 mph. Gotta crush 1 of them
  16. Frazier is going to struggle to keep his average above .200 this year...his approach is just awful. We're stuck with him
  17. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Apr 7, 2017 -> 08:44 PM) If Frazier goes and Moncada comes up later in year he can play 3rd. I'd like to see that as well, but we seem pretty committed to Moncada at 2b. We'll have to see if they move him around at all in the minors. They aren't going to bring him up to the majors to play a position he hasn't played all year.
  18. Holland definitely looks better than I was expecting. Little more zip to his fastball than I thought. And I kinda wish Saladino could stay at 2b....
  19. I want 0 parts of Josh Bell as the #1 hitting prospect we get back for Q. Meadows or bust from the Pirates, even if it means no Glasnow. Meadows, Keller, + 1 of Newman/Hayes/Craig + a lotto ticket young arm.
  20. Am I way off thinking the Yankees could hold on to both Torres and Frazier and get a deal done? Maybe it would take a 5th prospect instead of 4, but I'm not so sure a depth package isn't best for us anyway. 3 of- Rutherford, Mateo, Andujar, and Fowler 2 of- Sheffield, Kaprielian, Adams, Accevedo I'm sure the 2 sides could up with a package of 4 or 5 out of those that works for both parties.
  21. Same needs to be done with Avi now before his contract becomes guaranteed.
  22. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Feb 21, 2017 -> 12:30 PM) Catching defense is something that has been viewed as more and more important over time, even if only for a backup Teams really value depth at the catcher position, and scouts seem to think that Severino could have a lengthy career as a glove first backup. His ceiling could be a regular if the hit tool develops further Getting Severino plus a quality prospect would be a very good deal Glove 1st catchers aren't hard to find. Finding 1 with the ability to hold their own at the plate is hard to find. Severino hasn't demonstrated the ability to do so in the minors, so not sure why you'd think he can in the majors. It's not like he's a fringe guy either, he can barely maintain a .650 OPS in the high minors. That's called a career minor league player. If he's a throw in piece, sure, we'll take him, but if he's the main piece in a Robertson trade now I'd rather just keep him for now.
  23. QUOTE (NCsoxfan @ Feb 5, 2017 -> 08:22 PM) What's the purpose of Levine writing such a definitive statement? Because whether the trade happens in the next few weeks or at the deadline "soon" is vague enough to cover all basis for him. Doesn't exactly take a genius to know Q will be traded sooner or later. If he was really that confident he would have been more specific about the trade happening before the season.
