  1. If the Sox add a young catcher, then I believe this off-season is a huge win. Grabbing Abreu, Eaton, and (insert name of possible young catcher here, Grandal?) would be successful. Shedding Danks' contract would be icing on the cake.
  2. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 05:14 PM) Timely post. If you like Ackley (shifting to 3B for the Sox) that's recently been proposed by Jack Z. I believe Rick countered with Franklin. Stay tuned. Haha where did you see this at? And not a fan of Ackley really. Rather see Franklin
  3. Now that either De Aza or Viciedo are going to be possibly dealt, do you guys think we can get a respectable deal for Viciedo from Seattle who could use an outfield power bat?
  4. I like Paulino as a swing man (long reliever/6th starter) guy. It'd be nice to add an innings eater/vet right hander/ or right handed ace (push hard for Tanaka if/when he is posted?) to the rotation. 1. Sale 2. right handed ace 3. Quintana 4. Johnson 5. Danks And after todays' trade, I think De Aza is likely the one out. (I remember Baltimore wanted a left-handed LF. Maybe we match up in a deal?)
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 01:12 PM) I know I'm going to get backlash for this, but what exactly is this surplus of pitching the Sox have? Guys like Rienzo can be found in every organization. lol I know right. I don't disagree with this. People act like we are stacked and Rienzo isn't very special.
  6. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 01:10 PM) Trading ADA would be selling low I don't know man. He's already going to be 30 next year and I think his ceiling is pretty much what he is now: a decent blend of power and speed, below average D in center more suited for the corners.
  7. QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 01:08 PM) Seems a high price to pay for a younger right handed Dunn. Yeah and he doesn't even get on base like Dunn does which I guess doesn't matter so much if you're hitting like 5th or 6th.
  8. It all depends on what we do with our next inevitable moves: either trading De Aza or Viciedo. I think trading Viciedo would be selling low though while trading De Aza would be selling high.
  9. I think people are over-valuing Santiago here. I like Eaton's potential as a replacement for a Scotty Pods type which is a leadoff hitter we haven't had in a while. I think it's time to sell high on De Aza now. I don't expect him to be much more than he is now.
  10. QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 01:01 PM) What are you talking about Beck showing no sign of hope? Please leave that name out of the rest of your group. Yeah I meant to say other than him. Anyone else can really go.
  11. QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 12:57 PM) MLB Network touting an appearance by Kenny Williams. Looks like 10 or 15 minutes way. Damn. I thought rick hahn was in charge. You sure it isn't a replay? He was on earlier this morning.
  12. If we get Eaton and one of Davidson or Conger and we lose Santiago and a prospect (not like many of them are great in our organization any way) then I'd be happy. Losing a Beck, Snodgress, Leesman, Thompson, Mitchell, Jacobs wouldn't be terrible considering these guys are reaching or are in their mid-20s and show no signs of hope.
  13. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 12:07 PM) Saying Santiago "might stick" as a starter is laughable at this point. Using 3 lefties in our current rotation as a reason behind this trade even more so. Santiago also isn't very good chief.
  14. The way I look at the Juan situation, is that Keppinger has 2 years on his deal. If we get Uribe for 2 years and ship Keppinger away, nothing really changes other than us bringing in some sort of bullpen or minor league piece for Keppinger. I would expect Juan to platoon at third though.
  15. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 11:56 AM) We're going to give up Santiago for a guy who might stick as a starting CF but could end up a 4th OF?????? Better than having a guy why might stick as a starting pitcher (in a rotation that already has 3 lefties) but could end up a reliever.
  16. QUOTE (flavum @ Dec 9, 2013 -> 10:14 AM) Thursday morning. That's the last thing they do at the Winter Meetings and then they leave. Oh okay. Thanks!
  17. What about: Reed, Santiago, Beckham, Beck, and one of our OF prospects (Thompson, Jacobs, or Mitchell) for Headley, Grandal, and maybe Street (just to replace Reed in the bullpen and possibly close and to also just take on salary in the deal to make it seem more enticing)? Headley plays third, Grandal catches, we move Kep and Gillaspie in trades, trade Flowers to the Mets for anything (Mets had interest around the time of the non-tender date), and Semien plays second. For the Padres, Gyorko goes to third, Beckham plays second, Reed closer, and Santiago as a lefty in the rotation (they currently have 5 righties).
  18. I still think Keppinger makes sense for the Cardinals. Maybe the Cards and Sox matchup in a deal where Kep gets shipped out and Uribe comes in to platoon at third (and back-up second and short) barring any other moves.
  19. Just out of curiousity, but what day is the Rule 5 draft? Tomorrow?
  20. The only thing I'd be willing to deal for him is if it was straight up for Danks. Then we could deal De Aza for younger talent.
  21. Anyone think a 4 year 60 mill deal would be what it would take to lock him up for longer than next year? More or less? Also, I feel some sort of major trade happening in the next 4 days.
  22. He has a career OBP of .389. It's not like he didn't have just one good year in the NL. He's always gotten on base.
  23. Astros would not want Beckham. They have Altuve at second already and Villar at short.
  24. QUOTE (Vance Law @ Dec 6, 2013 -> 11:12 PM) Getting Franklin from Seattle for something centered around Dunn and Santiago is wishful thinking right? Gutierrez's option got declined so he is free agent. I think the only chance of shedding Dunn's contract would be to stick him with someone of value like Santiago but since he only has one year left on his deal any way, it would be wiser to try to get younger pieces for Santiago. I think Seattle could possibly matchup with us though if the M's add Cruz and they are looking for another bat they can have without giving up much. A 2-6 of Seager Cano Cruz Dunn isn't horrible.
  25. They could try dealing De Aza, playing Garcia in center, Viciedo in right, LoMo in left for a year since it doesn't really matter about this season, then when Dunn is gone, they could throw Morrison into the 1B/DH mix with Abreu.
