  1. Looks like LaRoche is likely gone from the Nats after this year and from comments he made, it sounds like he knows it. Zimmerman can no longer play third so unless the NL adapts the DH this off season he will be playing somewhere else. Could be a solid plan B if we don't sign Martinez (I don't think we will sign V-Mart personally).
  2. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 18, 2014 -> 01:13 AM) The Twins' announcers, who've watched Plouffe all season at 3B, said it was basically ridiculous that he was rated in the Top 3-4 in terms of range. They also said that they believe Dozier is MUCH better than the "average" 2B that he's being recorded as so far this season in UZR. That second part reminds me of Hawk on Beckham
  3. Step 1: acquire left handed bat to play left Step 2: move Tank to DH/backup 1B and corner OF Step 3: profit
  4. Looking at Scherzer's numbers this season, I kinda want our rotation to look like this next season: 1. Sale 2. Scherzer 3. Quintana 4. Place holder for Rodon/Rodon 5. Noesi/other signing or someone else in organization? If they can get Scherzer on a 6 year deal (his age 30 through 35 seasons), would you want him?
  5. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Sep 8, 2014 -> 08:44 PM) Alexei has 14 homers... Also, Tank has what, 20?
  6. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Sep 7, 2014 -> 11:53 PM) I'd prefer they just shave 2 weeks off of spring training, move the season up 2 weeks, so every season starts right about at St. Patrick's Day, with the first 2 weeks of games all in warm weather locations. So northern teams wouldn't have their first home opener until early April, but the season would end mid-September. I agree and teams with retractable roofs or domes. So teams can open up at: Astros Rangers Mariners Blue Jays Brewers Rays Marlins Padres A's Giants Dodgers Angels Diamondbacks Braves (Atlanta is usually hot at that time right?) Cardinals (can host games if need be as it isn't so bad down there in March)
  7. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 5, 2014 -> 05:29 PM) Not happening...buying high...peds...qualifying offer compensation In the free agency list there are 6-8 corner ofers more likely as placeholders on short-term deals who won't cost a draft pick Who are the 6-8 corner outfielders you would rather have? (Please don't say Rasmus....he's basically Dunn without the walks and the durability)
  8. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 5, 2014 -> 04:35 PM) Yep, and just like with Flowers, I'll be ok with it as long as the available money goes to a strong starting pitcher and lefty hitting DH or LF If we get a new DH, I'd rather see Viciedo moved. If we sign say Melky, I'd be ok keeping tank and having him get majority of his at bats at dh with also a little in the outfield and first. Also it'd be nice to have him hitting like 6th as opposed to middle of the order.
  9. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Sep 3, 2014 -> 02:53 PM) I'm not really on board with committing a significant amount of free agent dollars to a guy with an OBP of .341 in 2013 and .331 in 2014. Now he has a .368 OBP vs RHP, but then that doesn't really help if you're trying to platoon him with Gillaspie. Not really saying to platoon them but against lefties they could just bat him a little lower in the lineup
  10. QUOTE (onedude @ Sep 3, 2014 -> 02:34 PM) I voted Panda. Switch hitting 3rd baseman with decent pop. 28 years old. 4 year deal works for me Conor can then DH and get at bats as third and first
  11. IF we are to sign a DH/1B type of bat while surrendering a second round draft pick, also consider that Tank could likely be moved for something that could help us sooner that is on a roster as he should not be an outfielder on any team. This is my thoughts anyway. If you sign a DH only type, play Semien in left to get him at bats or sign another outfielder (Cabrera?) and trade Tank.
  12. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Aug 30, 2014 -> 02:56 PM) Balta, I'm amazed that your able to determine the White Sox's break even-point so accurately, but you can't account for their $46M in payroll obligations next year. John Danks $15,750,000 Alexei Ramirez $10,000,000 Jose Abreu $8,666,666 Chris Sale $6,000,000 Jeff Keppinger $4,500,000 Jose Quintana $1,000,000 Felipe Paulino $250,000 The $46M already includes Keppinger's corpse and Paulino's buyout. You're right about the arb guys and the total cost of all the minimum salaries however, so we probably are near $60M to field a full roster. Either way, I have no doubt the Sox will be able to afford a $100M payroll next year, regardless of if they actually spend it. While I'm impressed that you have direct access to the Sox's financials, you've yet to convince me that we're approaching some $90M payroll limitation, especially when you have no insight into their 2015 revenue forecasts that their payroll budget will be based on. I think we end up moving Danks somehow this off-season. Even if it you attach a prospect like Sanchez to him (I've seen people post the idea of going with Johnson and Semien on the roster next year and moving Sanchez so I kinda just added a little to that idea) you may be able to move Danks.
  13. QUOTE (CWSpalehoseCWS @ Aug 28, 2014 -> 10:03 PM) That's really the only reason the Sox should be moving him. More AB's for someone with a future in this organization for the last month. I'd be all for releasing him. We need space on the 40 and anyone who isn't going to figure into next years plans should just be cut to make room sooner.
  14. QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Aug 28, 2014 -> 09:02 AM) And you know this how? They need power. Having both gives you two guys who can be very similar. Corner outfield spots are usually used for power guys.
  15. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 27, 2014 -> 03:30 PM) Latos would be a amazing get if the Sox could go for him. One of the MI prospects Semien/Johnson/Sanchez + one of Danish/Montas/Adams + Beck/EJ/Bassitt? Would that even suffice? Toss in Hawkins or Thompson as sweetener? Probably the first 2 parts (maybe 2 SP) and Hawkins? Or Davidson if they end ip moving Votto some how (just speculation on my part. No real rumor)
  16. QUOTE (peavy44 @ Aug 24, 2014 -> 10:11 AM) Would u go game if he starter in September. I would and I know my buddies would. Announcing him to start a few games would get people in the seats. Not asking for 8 innings 100 pitchez but more like 3-5 60-75 pitches or whatever they want to do.
  17. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 23, 2014 -> 02:31 PM) Yeah, seems he has lost his concept of the strike zone. It will be interesting to see if they send him to AAA next year or keep him as the back up I think we will acquire a left handed bat to platoon with Flowers and Nieto will start the year at AAA to get some at bats and work on defense.
  18. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Aug 23, 2014 -> 11:25 AM) If we replaced Danks with Eaton and Dunn with Wilkins that would be a pretty fun line up to watch Then flip Gillaspie and Wilkins
  19. QUOTE (Bigsoxhurt35 @ Aug 22, 2014 -> 05:36 PM) Now that machado's out for the year, maybe they could use one of our bats? Think they are happy with Steven Pearce and Delmon Young
  20. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 22, 2014 -> 01:56 AM) What do u mean? People on this board despise Danks (as a pitcher, not a human being), at least the majority do. There is definitely a solid number of people that want to keep Danks. Personally, I prefer Noesi over Danks at this point as a back end of the rotation guy when you factor in cost.
  21. Either: Eaton Semien Abreu Dunn Garcia Gillaspie Viciedo Ramirez Flowers Or Eaton Ramirez Abreu Dunn Garcia Gillaspie Tank Flowers Sanchez.... A lot more fun to watch
  22. Don't know why the Angels want him but awesome
  23. I would like the Sox to move Viciedo and sign Yasmani Tomas and Maeda this off season then try to add a left handed bat at either dh, c, or 3B (depending on if they want Conor to get the majority of the dh at bats)
