  1. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 08:54 AM) There wasn't much of a choice. And they didn't throw in the towel, they brought in a Top 5 MVP caliber hitter. Except we didn't know it at the time...and certainly without enough confidence to roll the dice by throwing money all over the place. As has been mentioned many times, nobody expected Nate Jones to be hurt or the bullpen to be such a disaster or Reed wouldn't have been traded....but that's all hindsight. We knew that we needed to give Flowers, Beckham, Viciedo and DeAza (to a lesser extent) one more season. All the answers aren't there...about Flowers, Conor, Garcia (thanks to the injury) and 2B (Sanchez/M.Johnson), but, at the very least, Hahn has managed to pull this team to respectability within the span of two seasons. Eaton, when healthy, proved he could be a significant force offensively and defensively, and he accomplished that without stealing many bases. That's a heckuva lot more than the Cubs have been able to accomplish in 4-5 years. Let's keep in mind that our core group of prospects in Anderson, Montas, Danish, Hawkins and Micah Johnson still hasn't been touched. We have a set of two distinct gambles going on here, one is winning within the next two years with LaRoche, Duke, Robertson, Alexei Ramirez and Samardzija....and then the next wave will arrive and make an impact beginning with Rodon and extending beyond those five prospects already named. It's still a 79-83 win team as currently constructed, but it's arguably one more starter and LF away from being at that magical 86-88 win total that ANYTHING can happen, as proven by the Royals and Giants as recently as last season. well said.
  2. listen, let's just squash EVERYONE'S dreams. we're not get Scherzer. if we're didn't give Chris Sale a max deal, there's NO WAY in hell Hahn & Co. will pony up the ~$25M Scherzer will be asking.
  3. does anyone honestly believe that the White Sox payroll going into next season is going to be over $100M? better yet even $90M?!
  4. yeah if Alexei is going anywhere, Rick better make sure that team is taking Danks and his contract too. similar to how the Cabrera + Dontrelle Willis deal years ago to DET. we have to unload Danks' contract.
  5. signing a left-handedm ground-ball, relief pitcher for $5M a year is a steal compared to Miller who will want 4 years/$40M. i'm OK with this move Ricky Hahn.
  6. we need some bullpen help and BAD. the Sox blew SO many games last season late in the games. you look at our bullpen the year we won it all our bullpen was rock solid. Cotts and Politte posted sub-2.00 ERAs all year. Marte and Vizciano were steady. and the mix of Shingo, Hermanson, Jenks held down the 9th. last year, our bullpen was inconsistent. too many hits and too many walks. they showed flashes, but to me it seemed like we were missing a piece or two. maybe it was over-use from having to pitch more often because our #4 and #5 starters were garbage and the pen had to make up the difference... in any case, getting a guy like Miller would be a huge addition. the price tag is probably too high for Hahn though.
  7. http://www.rotoworld.com/headlines/mlb/451...or-jason-castro how is a kid who hit .222 last season with 151 in 465 ABs any type of improvement over Flowers? because of his age? not the type of news that WOWs me. :/
  8. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 9, 2014 -> 10:35 PM) Beckham, DeAza, Danks, Dunn, Viciedo and Ramirez. They GONE! Ramirez? he's one of the top SS in the AL and you want them to get rid of him? this is probably the most ignorant post i've ever seen.
  9. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 9, 2014 -> 11:42 PM) How much was slot? Seems like he got a lot over. Regardless, this is great news. he was slotted at $5.7M and got $6.45. i'm not going to gripe about another $750K if this kid ends up being our #1 prospect. great news this morning!
  10. i've had a few days to mull this over and there's NO reason Sale should have been in there to face Trout. NOPE. HORRIBLE coaching by Robin AND Coop to let him stay in there that long. now, i'm sure Sale wanted to face Trout after Coop talked to him, but the fact is this kid is coming off the flexor injury that landed him on the DL, he was already at 110-115 pitches, there's absolutely NO reason he should have been in there. let the bullpen hold that lead and get out of the inning. poor decision that i believe cost the White Sox 2 games, including Sunday's loss because they look deflated that game because of Saturday night's game.
  11. whether it's true or not, it was taken from the FOX Sports Ohio site. it would seem odd that they would care so much about a Chicago player if it didn't happen.
  12. The Indians' dominance over the White Sox finally came to an end Thursday night. And thanks to Cuban slugger Jose Abreu, the tide could be turning between these AL Central foes for a long time to come. Abreu went deep off Indians starter Danny Salazar in the second inning and again in the fifth off reliever Josh Outman. If you thought Abreu's multi-homer night was just a fluke, you're wrong... http://msn.foxsports.com/ohio/story/photo-...baseball-041114 i'm sold.
  13. let's put things in perspective for all those who thought the White Sox were actually competing for the Central. the biggest hit from this is (like someone said before) Avi losing the development time this season. like it was said before, we have him under control for years. we weren't going to win anything this season, so let's not give up on this team just yet. there are still pieces in place that might be serviceable for the 153 games left. LOL Jordan Danks had a GREAT spring so we know he can play ball...maybe he's more ready than Avi to play every day...? who knows. all we had going into this year was an IDEA of what Avi could produce. maybe we can get a little of that production between Danks, Viciedo and De Aza. it's a shame for sure, but it's not the end of the world.
  14. i plan on going to many more games this summer.
  15. Abreu's 2nd HR was just hammered. i don't want to get my hopes up too soon because it's some NL pitching, but he's got some POWER. there are going to be some ups and downs this season, but i like how this team responded after Robin not being too happy after monday's loss.
  16. Robin Ventura has confirmed the rotation to start the season: Chris Sale, Felipe Paulino, Jose Quintana, Erik Johnson, John Danks. i really hope this is in no particular order because Paulino doesn't belong in the #2 spot.
  17. imo, this sends a message to John Danks that he's going to be auditioning for a new team this season.
  18. QUOTE (Jake @ Mar 24, 2014 -> 10:48 AM) This gives Jose a hell of a lot of room for regression/injury/etc, too. To earn this contract, he doesn't have to be nearly as good as he has been. this was kind of my thinking when i said maybe Hahn jumped the gun putting an extension in front of Q a year early...
  19. so apparently no one is worried about Q's spring training numbers...? i think it's a good signing, but i hope Hahn didn't jump the gun a year early on this one.
  20. i picked Braun. yes, this was for someone's HR Derby pool. i was just helping them out. these were the 3 write-in choices that i could think of that might potentially hit 30+ HRs this upcoming season. i think Braun is the safest choice. Pujols is coming off an injury and going on his 14th season. i looked at Steamer HR projections and got excited about Abreu. apparently they are very high on him and project that he might hit 34 HRs this season. but i think he'll hit between 25-30...honestly, i think all 3 of these guys will hit somewhere between 25-30 so it's kind of a wash. thanks for those who gave me a real contribution!
  21. QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 7, 2014 -> 02:10 PM) Nobody cares about your fantasy team. i'm not playing fantasy baseball this year, dips***. nice try.
  22. i think 1 of these 3 is going to hit 30+ HRs, i just don't know which one.
  23. if you had to pick ONE of these three, who would you say is going to hit the most HRs this upcoming season? i need answers quickly...
  24. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 25, 2014 -> 11:11 AM) That lineup is light years better than in years' past, but god it still sucks. that's pretty vague. what sucks about it? the fact that there are a bunch of unknowns? i don't think it gets much worse than the past 3-4 years, really since Dunn's arrival.
  25. one thing i cannot stand about baseball writers is that they will nit-pick ANYTHING to get some content. Danks was a VERY solid pitcher from 2008-2010 for the White Sox. sure, the White Sox are on the hook for a HUGE amount of money that could have been spent elsewhere but, like someone else said, if he can come close to the pitcher he was the value of this contract might not be all that bad in the end. he sounded optimistic in the ESPN article over the weekend, so i'm going to be as well. his velocity was WAY down last year, but he was ahead in the count a lot of the time, he just had to force pitches and couldn't really close the door on guys like he had in the past. i think if he can gain some of that velocity maybe we'll see the Johnny Danks that helped this team get to the playoffs in 2008.
