Surprised this didn't generate much more chatter. Was much more pessimistic on the Dodgers stuff.
i think fantom posted it on page 8 or 9 and it got buried by peavy44's Harper to the Cubs yapping. 😤

No surprise, but Bruce is saying Harper wants an opt-out after 3 or 4 years:

not surprised either. but i'd offer an opt-out after years 4 or 5 (preferably year 5).

Why can’t Bryce decide when we want him to? What a diva, quit trying to rake your time, on what will be the biggest financial decision of your career!
HOW DARE YOU?! 😂

A left-bearded Nats hitter who put up .249 on his way out. What could go wrong? I would offer 350 open for ten days then move on.
plenty. but the reward is worth the risk for a 26 year old former ROY/MVP going into the prime years of his career wouldn't you agree?

This harper saga is very annoying hes turning this into LeBron thing.
LOL dude you are off your rocker.
if you were 26 years old free agent, this is the ONE contract that you have worked your ENTIRE life for and the contract that is going to set you and your family up for life.
hardly a "Lebron thing" as you so eloquently state.
it's a business and Harper has earned his way to handle it as such.

Will that backfire if Machado's contract ends up being a lot smaller than expected?
maybe, but i don't see the harm in waiting another week to hear salary rumors circulate to maximize your own deal.
and i don't think interest in Harper is going to wane by not signing a deal before leaving Vegas.

Hes waiting on the cubs or dodgers

you do the math and show me how adding Harper financially works out for the Cubs.

the Cubs are keeping Darvish AND Hamels on in 2019,

i don't think that either, but if i'm Harper/Boras, i can wait for Machado to sign a contract and set the price tag FIRST.

the Cubs had better start moving Heyward then, don't you think?

Machado hasn't met with anyone yet apparently and Harper's agent is Scott Boras, Scott Boras is only going to have his player sign now if he thinks there's a real chance that his best offer could evaporate with nothing comparable available. At least for the near future, there's no pressure for either of them to finish.
exactly. at least that's what i'm doing if i'm a free agent in this situation.

Why is harper waiting then.
maybe he's waiting for Machado to set the price tag?

Is anyone concerned about Merkin's tweets regarding this?
no, because if you actually watch the interview and listen to Hahn talk about it, he doesn't sounds concerned so i'm not going to be.
the process could end tomorrow, it could end in Jan/Feb. enjoy the ride!

Yeah, that's not fair...Pax has had a team over .500 in the last 6 years
In all honesty though, the Sox are just too irrelevant these days. When you have horrible attendance, horrible TV ratings and a horrible team....you're not exactly at the top of everyone's wish list. The unique situation exists this offseason in that Harper and Machado might not take the most money (like what usually happens) due to unusual circumstances (Harper wanting to play with Bryant, Manny being a Yanks fan)
and for all we know maybe Harper/Boras are waiting to see how Machado's visits go and what the $$$ value of his contract offers look like...
everyone should just sit back, relax and strap it down. LOL we could be in for a long ride.

I am only talking about targeting and securing free agents. I am not trying to crap on the team of front office but if they target both and lose out on both there are concerns in my mind. There are putting in the effort and all that but they cannot finalize the mega-deal.
so now you're comparing KW/Hahn to GarPax? gtfo

I don't think that's what that is, I think that's Hahn giving a realistic look at the situation. He also said this:
the week isn't over *shurgs*

This also could mean JR wants to do it with Boras himself...
this is how i see it. JR could have approached Boras telling him let's put aside our past history and let's get this deal done.

is it too much to ask for both Harper AND Machado for Christmas?

I am excited to see him and to see him achieve. For my two cents is that we can all ruminate over the business of baseball, but if you let it fuck up your enjoyment of the game of baseball, you are doing it wrong.
exactly!

over 100 K's on the season and only 27 walks for a leadoff hitter.
*facepalm*

would be nice if Bart fell to #4 but i don't see that happening.
i figure he goes #2.
