This post is just the worst. This is a business. To attract the best employees these days, you have to treat them well. Companies like Google provide great work environments and compensation. To keep an employee from going to a competitor, it is best not to screw them over on a technicality that will probably be changed soon. If the player is special, treat him like you would want to be treated.

Do not get your hopes up. This is optimism. If you are the kind of person that expects your airplane to crash, don't read this. Sox should offer 10 years 340 guaranteed. More than might be necessary. Don't send the message that you are bargain hunting. Send the message that he is the future of your franchise. If he wants an out clause, try to get after at least 4 years. Send a strong offer! Not some might be competitive offer. A definitely competitive offer. It's a bold move. But a move that could change the course of White Sox history and increase the value of the franchise. If Eloy earns the starting job this spring, honor the player and have him start opening day in Chicago. I know about the service time. Do you want to attract free agents? Treat your people well. Pay them what they are worth. Give them what they earn even if you have the upper hand. If Eloy earns it, respect him and maybe he respects you when he becomes a free agent.

I think the Sox thought they would get Machado. They were probably as shocked as we were. And when you think of all the time and effort involved, their failure was probably devastating. I have to believe they will try for Harper. I think the Sox have a shot. But I certainly won't get my hopes up again.

It isn't about how much Harper is worth. It is how much it will cost to bring a star player to the White Sox. Those NBC and Stadium guys would like viewers. We have to pay a suck tax.
