  1. Non-throwing elbow? How does that even happen?
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 5, 2017 -> 10:59 AM) He isn't THAT good of a hitter at his ceiling. We aren't talking about Carlos Lee here. We need guys who can hit the ball out of the infield. Delmonico fits the bill.
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 4, 2017 -> 03:49 PM) The same can be said for guys like Engel, Leury, and May... and those guys won't hurt young pitching with their defense. Much harder for someone to learn how to hit mlb pitching than learn defensive technique. If he can only handle LF so be it I'm sure he can become a passable defender there.
  4. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 31, 2017 -> 03:14 PM) I understand that this may put LA over the top, but in terms of the trade itself, I just feel as though the baseball world is generally overvaluing 3 months of Darvish and underrating Calhoun as a prospect. No one is underrating Calhoun. He clearly has a major league bat but he's been pretty bad defensively. His bat will have to be very good for him to be an impact DH if he can't stick in the infield. Although his minor league offensive numbers have been good enough to think he can be that type of DH. He has more value to an AL team which is why this deal happened. I was just looking at his swing and he has a very noticeable hitch. Not sure how that hasn't been exploited yet.
  5. I will say this people on this site are way too down on this guy for some reason. Watch some of his videos the Yankees produced this kid has a really good head on his shoulders and I think mentally he will approach adversity well if he encounters it. Coupled with his talent I think he is a very good bet to be an impact player down the road. You have to be patient with the development of high school kids its rare for them to fly through a system even if they are a top 100 prospect. As for the power? Get them in the weight room consistently and get them better food. Hear from former minor leaguers (not White Sox) about how bad the food options are as a minor league player. Coupled with more confidence from increasing reps in pro ball and that power will blossom. Same goes for Jimenez and others. Just requires some discipline.
  6. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jul 31, 2017 -> 02:14 PM) I feel the Yankees did very well in this deal. They did not get coaxed into dealing Torres/Frazier/Adams/Sheffield, and surrendered 2 injured prospects and 1 who's stock has been slipping in Mateo. Jimenez is a significantly better prospect than anyone in this deal, and an argument could be made for Cease being a better prospect now as well. A's failed to leverage Gray into a truly elite prospect, so I currently consider this to be a failure on their part. I can agree the Q deal was much better than this one.
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 1, 2017 -> 09:19 PM) Couldn't agree more. Anderson seems defeated on and off the field. He's having worse at bats now than earlier in the year, which is hard to believe is possible. It's just been a lost year and he's definitely gone from a core piece of the rebuild to a huge question mark. Always was a big question mark in my opinion he never really showed signs last year of taking a major league approach at the plate.
  8. Yanks weren't down on him they weren't expecting much out of guys like Judge they have a big logjam in the OF in majors
  9. QUOTE (Wanne @ Jul 29, 2017 -> 02:04 PM) yeah...wondering if this will shift the Sox draft philosophy next year? Will they look at taking Turang first?...or the highest rated SS in the 2nd. I think turang makes sense both as a bpa and an organizational need
  10. He's basically the same player he was last year. If he still looks like this 2 years from now we can get concerned. His minor league numbers made it clear this would not be an easy transition for him.
  11. He wasn't great last season either. A gamble that didn't work out. Doubt there is any trade interest in him.
  12. I think the players association would insist on the DH in a single league format. Also see home plate umpires going away by then for sure. Think they will keep field umpires for tradition. I think they should shorten the season but let far more teams into the playoffs like the nba (basically half the teams) and have each playoff series be 7 games. Would give middling teams more incentive to take risks which would make it more interesting.
  13. I'd like to see Turang also. Think we get the 1st or 2nd pick
  14. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 27, 2017 -> 09:43 AM) It probably is what Jennings is worth, but no excitement whatsoever from me over him. Offensive struggles is something the White Sox haven't been able to fix in years. I don't know why it would start now. Given his defensive position, he is going to have to hit a lot to be a viable player. I don't see getting traded to the White Sox organization his big break. Well Davidson was able to get righted even though he hasn't been amazing or anything. He went from looking like a AAA bust for years to a major league player.
  15. Pretty good trade. Jennings wouldn't have much use for us. 1st round pick, had a good year in AAA in 2016 but having a down year this year. Still hasn't seen the majors. Turned 24 in January.
  16. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 26, 2017 -> 06:37 PM) Start your membership on a message board by insulting a longtime member and former mod. What you do elsewhere doesn't really matter No wonder they aren't a mod anymore
  17. QUOTE (GermanSock @ Jul 26, 2017 -> 01:27 AM) Not really a fan. I don't care about the position but the guy is old. I don't care about his numbers, 25 year old prospects never become anything. He might be about big league ready but at his age he is a quad A type. Now swarzak was never going to get a great return but I would have preferred a 19 year old lotto ticket even if that guy likely never makes the majors. You can hold out for a 19 year old lotto ticket and risk getting nothing back when teams move on to plan b and c. There are tons of relievers available it is not a sellers market.
  18. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 25, 2017 -> 11:39 PM) Again, it's also July 25. Look at it this way. We traded a guy that projects to put up about 1 WAR for the rest of this year for a guy that projects to put up 2.8 WAR over the next 6 years. I'm excited. How many playoff wins is that 1 war going to get us
  19. QUOTE (Tony @ Jul 25, 2017 -> 11:24 PM) But calling me a f***ing dick is called for? Maybe you need some time off. He's been trolling the trade threads for weeks. Don't get why people are losing their s*** over minor league rental signings being traded. Yeah he had a decent year so far. I thought that was the point of signing guys like him and Holland. No one knows what his market was so criticizing is ridiculous. Guy we got is decent enough. Be glad we were able to turn any of our scrap heap signings into a player with many more years of control.
  20. I'd say he's worth his contract if he gets us from the #3/4 pick to the #1 pick.
  21. Clippard will be very useful for us. #1 pick looks like a possibility now.
  22. If Machado was a bust the team would never be able to make the necessary signings to win a World Series. It would also likely prohibit extending 2-3 of our prospects who pan out
  23. QUOTE (daa84 @ Jul 19, 2017 -> 09:16 AM) i do wonder if we could package some guys - swarzak, melky/avi and gonzalez/holland for a decent package Avi/Swarzak to STL with Carson Kelly headlining the deal
  24. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 19, 2017 -> 08:59 AM) There is nothing "depreciating" about Kahnle. So if he has a worse second half he's just as valuable? Give me a break. I really hope you were this upset about this Quintana deal.
  25. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 19, 2017 -> 09:18 AM) So we can't comment if we don't love a trade now? Take your period elsewhere.
