  1. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 07:37 PM) Jacob Larsen @jakelarsen @CSNHayes @BaseballAmerica @jimcallisMLB The return on Eaton leaves me speechless. Jim Callis ‏@jimcallisMLB 1m1 minute ago Jim Callis Retweeted Jacob Larsen Me too. Aaron Fitt ‏@aaronfitt 49s49 seconds ago @jimcallisMLB @jakelarsen I wasn’t speechless. My reaction involved some very loud, profane expressions of incredulity. I think they only got slightly more for Sale than what they got for Eaton. Pretty crazy, but that's what happens when a team gets backed into a corner with no other options. I'm sure if Hahn held out on Boston he could've gotten Groome thrown in instead of Diaz.
  2. Would rather see Q to the Yankees for some combo of Torres, Mateo, Rutherford, Frazier, etc..
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 06:26 PM) Apparently your fandom is based on the BA rankings, and not what is going on with the actual major league team. If Q is dealt we need a lot of positional prospects. That's why I'd prefer the Yankees - they can offer a Torres, Mateo, Rutherford, Frazier, etc..
  4. I wasn't crazy about return from the Sale deal but this is a really good deal for a guy in Eaton who likely peaked. Just need to get back positional prospects mostly in all other trades now. If Kopech can come through as a starter at least we should be set with pitchers, need to draft position players in Rd 1 with our hopefully top 3 overall pick next few years.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 01:14 PM) And there we go... Daryl Van Schouwen ‏@CST_soxvan 5h5 hours ago Chris Sale on Boston: "Realistic chance of winning the World Series. Dedicated ownership, front office guys committed to winning annually." Ouch. Shots fired. But well deserved.
  6. QUOTE (hi8is @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 10:33 PM) Well, I did literally say repeatedly: "if I can hit him anyone can - he's horrible". I don't dislike Moncada and Kopech. They are leaving themselves no margin for error by the deal being heavily front loaded and Moncada and Kopech have not proven anything above AA. The other two are lotto tickets. The bust potential with this trade in particular is much higher than it should be given we just gave up a perennial all star pitcher on a cheap deal. The front office has not earned the benefit of doubt given recent trade results.
  7. QUOTE (Deadpool @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 07:49 PM) And I'm the board troll. Funny, considering I was the only person who called Shields being worse than Latos and Gonzalez.
  8. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 07:19 PM) Agree, except I don't think it's unlikely that Moncada doesn't turn into Trout. Mike Trout tore it up at every step of the minors and majors. Go look up his old stats. Moncada is nowhere near his level.
  9. QUOTE (kwill @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 07:37 PM) De Leon+Bellinger+Lux+Puig+ 2 Top 15 From System Prospects=Eaton+Frazier+Robertson. Is that enough? That's way more than what we got for Sale
  10. QUOTE (NCsoxfan @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 07:31 PM) This makes no sense. If we end up worse than we are now in 4 years it's not because of this trade as Sale only has 3 years left on his deal & if he's great in 3 years he's gone. The whole point of the trade is to NOT be better now, but to be better in years 4+ We got a few good prospects but this deal falls far short of what a good GM could get for Sale. They better be sure Moncada is a future all-star or this is one of the worst trades in franchise history.
  11. QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 07:08 PM) Well, we know where the constant "win now" mandate came from, even when it was against the team's best interest. That wouldn't have been a problem if we had competent scouts and front office personnel over the last 5 years. We could've filled the holes with our farm like every other team can do.
  12. QUOTE (Real @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 06:59 PM) Most Red Sox fans calling into this weei radio show saying they can't believe this is all they had to give up Bad sign. But don't try to convince any of the people here who want to blow it all up just because that we got poor value. Watch us end up worse off than before in 4 years with no trade pieces.
  13. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 03:24 PM) Adam Eaton has a ridiculous amount of surplus value given his 5 year, $38 million deal remaining for his prime years The package would have to be a massive haul for me to deal Eaton's 5 year of team control. He is a plug and play table setter and great right fielder. People said the same thing with Sale. It's not going to be nearly as much as you think.
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 02:48 PM) Nice move of the goalposts. You implied that Sale changing his approach to "pitching to contact" was because of injury concerns. Where's the proof? You also implied that it's abnormal and cause for concern for a major league pitcher to experience dead arm periods.
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 02:39 PM) Now you are just being bitter. Sale's health has always been a topic of concern, especially when he would get his annual dead arm phase, his extra days off, and this year with the complete change in his pitching style to dial it back so that he could maybe stay healthy. Every pitcher deals with those things. They had no problem leaving him out there for well over 100 pitches every start for months on end so I highly doubt they had legitimate concerns about his arm.
  16. QUOTE (Black_Jack29 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 02:24 PM) The dead arm issues really never stopped, which is why Coop had him pitching to contact more often than before this past season. This is probably the bigger issue going forward than a potential arm injury due to his mechanics. I'm sure that Dombrowski is aware of this, and it's likely the reason why Hahn didn't get more of Boston's Top 10 prospects in the deal. Funny how everyone starts going on and on about how Sale's arm is going to fall off the second he gets traded.
  17. QUOTE (Deadpool @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 02:18 PM) In this day and age, it is more than reasonable to think a pitcher is going to get hurt. So many of them do. Kopech is just as likely to blow out his arm as Sale is. I have not seen any proof or correlation of innings pitched to injuries. Not even worth discussing unless there is new evidence or research brought forward.
  18. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 02:09 PM) I've been holding my breath waiting for that funky delivery to finally catch up with Chris. Hope I'm wrong, hate to see him get hurt, but at least if he does the Sox dodged a bullet Somehow posts like these are not ridiculous but posts saying that Moncada is completely unproven and far from a sure thing are?
  19. QUOTE (Deadpool @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 01:43 PM) I'm surprised there isn't a lot more of this on the board today. Proud of most of soxtalk.com for being more level headed than this. If I was a Boston fan I'd be happy with this deal. It would suck to lose Moncada but he's far from proven and you're getting a bonafide ace who dominated the AL. Sure fire all star and probable Cy Young winner. The rest of the prospects are too far away from the majors to be overly concerned about. They have potential but are total wild cards.
  20. QUOTE (Baron @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 01:38 PM) Devers isnt playing this year or next year Sure he will play in 2018. They just called up Benintendi directly from AA and he did fine. Devers will start 2017 in AA. Might even be a September callup if he has a great year.
  21. QUOTE (2005thxfrthmmrs @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 01:37 PM) This is from the Red Sox forum: Most feel that they underpaid for this deal (does not happen with normal Red Sox meatheads) They are also skeptical if Moncada will ever figure out how to hit the breaking pitches, strikeout numbers is a concern. Yeah if Moncada is not as advertised we lose this deal big. I had a feeling the front office would blink first and they did. They declare Moncada an untouchable due to his "ranking" when he was the guy they wanted to move all along between Devers and Benintendi. Why does this front office insist on taking guys who failed in their first ML action? They made the same mistake with Davidson.
  22. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 01:36 PM) Man Frazier just seems perfect for the Red Sox, can't believe he wasn't in the package. They have Devers. LAD could use Frazier if Turner signs elsewhere.
  23. We lost the deal. Moncada is a nice prospect but we won't even come close to winning this deal if he isn't as advertised. He is still very much a work in progress - far from a sure thing. He is not ready to step in right away like Benintendi was. Too bad we didn't move Sale for Urias at the trade deadline when he was rumored to be on the table we probably could've gotten a better deal overall. A deal that headlined Urias and Bellinger would've been much more appealing to me.
  24. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 12:56 PM) There is a good chance that if you throw out both Kopech and Moncada, that Basabe is the Sox #1 prospect, or damned close to it. I wouldn't put him over Fulmer and he's probably not as good a hitter as Collins. He didn't do that great in A ball this past season.
  25. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 12:49 PM) That's nice. And I'm sure if the Sox could have gotten that they would have too. Kopech and Basabe are only A ball players. High risk high reward types. Moncada is a good prospect but too overhyped.
