  1. QUOTE (SonofaRoache @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 01:59 AM) Carson Fulmer was dealing like an all-star as well. Lots of pitchers flame out after hot starts. Not saying this is a certainty with Gio, but he hasn't produced for a few years yet. If Hahn thinks he can convince Machado to sign, or flip him at the deadline I'll trust his judgement. Top 10 players and potential Hall of Famer's are much more GOLD than guys who look good for seven starts. Machado is not going to sign without testing FA. Why are we so hard up to blow up our rebuild to add this dbag with the attitude problem when we have young guys coming up. This is our future leader? What has Machado ever led his team to? This front office can’t even go one full year of a rebuild without falling back into their “go for it” ways. Unreal
  2. QUOTE (SonofaRoache @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 01:47 AM) Giolito is unproven even though he was good this year. He is a rookie who hasn't accomplished anything in this league. Rodon, Kopech, Lopez, and Hansen may all be better than him. The plan people want to to try to sign Machado in FA when we have less than a 5 percent chance. The only shot we have at getting a Hall of Fame talent on this roster next year is by trading for one. It would suck to lose Gio but we would get by pretty nicely without him, just like the Nationals did. Are you kidding me? Giolito was absolutely dealing like an all-star once he got acclimated. This is nuts that people are cool with dumping him for a rental. Cheap young tor starters like that are GOLD. You don’t trade them EVER if your team has any kind of budget constraints.
  3. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 01:44 AM) These guys don't give 2 s***s about that stuff, I don't know where people get that from. He's going to sign with whichever team pays him the most. This. I can’t believe our FO after making some excellent trades last year to secure our future is about to blow it up for a rental who will test FA.
  4. QUOTE (Soxnfins @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 01:43 AM) Here’s a thought.... it’s not Kopech or Giolito. It’s Alec Hanson. Wouldn’t surprise me one bit, but I wouldn’t like it. That is more stupid than the Shields trade, and that’s saying something. Any more than Fulmer and I will be furious. This is the Samardzija mistake all over again. This team will never learn.
  5. QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Dec 12, 2017 -> 03:21 AM) Someone at work asked me if I would take Rafael Devers for Abreu straight up. I thought it was an interesting question. Yes. But would hurt losing Abreu.
  6. QUOTE (SCCWS @ Dec 8, 2017 -> 08:03 AM) Agree but there is a caviat. Machado may go somewhere for a year, love the situation and sign there long-term. I think he ends up in Boston, LA or New York in FA. Would just end up being another Samardzija situation I think
  7. He will wear down a lot sooner than other players with the double duty. I think he’ll be a pitcher only after 4-5 years once his hitting and pitching suffer from the excessive workload and longer season. A nice story but I think his career will be shorter than what you would normally expect. That’s a lot of wear and tear and injury risk being a 2 way player.
  8. We don't even need him this year. Total waste of prospects.
  9. Will go to an AL team. Probably Mariners.
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 2, 2017 -> 01:14 AM) Move our current 1b and we'll talk? I think Delmonico is the guy they are looking at as a 1B/DH
  11. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Dec 1, 2017 -> 07:16 PM) I think the guy is a stiff. No future. Rather give some kids a shot since they are still rebuilding next year. Some of them may prove useful when the team is actually good. I agree but we ran through a lot of young pitchers last year from AAA and no one really stood out to me that can't be obviously penciled into the bullpen. We might have some more arms to look at by late '18 early '19.
  12. QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 2, 2017 -> 12:22 AM) Hmmm, he's 30 and had a good year last year. We have him for 3 years. Should this give me hope we will keep Abreu? If Castillo is part of the plan, why not a similarly aged guy in Abreu, who had double his RBIs? I won't comment much on things I know little about and I don't know Castillo much. I'm assuming he's a nice addition cause his defense is pretty good from what I've read. But he's very old by today's standards. This gives me hope again that we might have some vets around for the WS contending years, which means Abreu and the still young Avi. I'm all for speeding up the winning process and Castillo's profile suggests winning now or soon. He's no spring chicken. Or ... this could mean we will merely trade him this winter for more pieces. He was signed because Collins needs a few more years at least. Can't leave what will be an obvious hole on the roster when everyone else is up here. I don't think they are trying to dump Abreu they are just dangling both Avi and Abreu to see if there is any good value to be had. It's the smart thing to do. They are probably thinking Delmonico could have a breakout year as a middle of the order bat and could fill the hole left by trading Abreu at what will likely be his peak value. Could see him being a 30-40 HR guy in the near future.
  13. QUOTE (Tony @ Nov 30, 2017 -> 12:00 AM) Unfortunately, that's only true if someone is willing to bite. If someone wanted to gamble on extending him early they would make the trade
  14. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Nov 26, 2017 -> 12:39 PM) They already think this now. Hahn has said they expect 2020 to be the year they start contending again. Rebuilding teams and low payrolls goes hand in hand. Have to play the kids to see who sticks before you know where the holes are to plug through free agency. Good point this is what I was saying in the Avi thread as well. This way we don’t cripple the rebuild before it gets off the ground with a big mistake.
  15. We shouldn’t have to package either if they are moved. Would be open to moving either or both but the returns have to be on par with the Eaton deal. Needs to be full value no dumps. We don’t have anyone waiting in the wings to immediately take over and they hypothetically could fit into the future plans. All depends what we get offered. Both are attractive sell high candidates.
  16. Don’t know why Covey is still on the team. Saladino should be let go too. Covey must be a KW guy.
  17. That's the type of guy I'd like to see get a shot at managing. Fits well with our future core as a potential successor to Renteria. We'd probably have to give him a shot relatively quick though (as in within 2-3 seasons from now if we are going that route). Seems like he's serious about proving himself as a manager candidate if he's taking an A ball assignment. Pretty impressed that he doesn't see it as beneath him given the caliber of player he was and that he could pretty much coach on any major league team right now in a non-managerial role.
  18. Nice move. Would like to see us take advantage of some of these other teams trying to make a run at Otani as well
  19. QUOTE (Rooftop Shots @ Oct 26, 2017 -> 02:03 PM) With all of the latino players that we have, Renteria isnt going anywhere. One big reason they got him ia not only just to help develope young players but it is easier to manage when you can speak the language fluently. Girardi or Dusty baker cannot. Another factor, Jerrys "loyalty" kicks that he always has. He Is NOT going to put Renteria out to dry like The Cubs did. Relax everyone Ricky is here to stay even if Joe Torre or Tony LaRussa wants to come back and manage Rick was never an organization guy. Ozzie and Robin were. Big difference. If Robin wasn’t a great white sox player he would’ve been gone way sooner.
  20. Sadly we needed Girardi to get fired a season or two from now. Odd he was fired considering the Yankees weren’t even considered in the playoff race before the season. I wonder if there was some kind of clubhouse rift.
  21. QUOTE (Quin @ Oct 26, 2017 -> 09:01 AM) It was disgraceful when the Cubs did it, it'd be disgraceful if the Sox fire Ricky solely to hire Girardi. I think Ricky earned next season. When Renteria was hired a lot of people on here said he’d be fired once the team was ready to make a World Series run.
  22. QUOTE (GermanSock @ Oct 22, 2017 -> 06:16 AM) the cubs traded josh donaldson. those things happen. it is not ideal but everyone makes mistakes. that is not an exact science you sometimes pick the wrong guy. now it is possible that that move costs the sox a ws but they still have a great farm and a chance to build a really good team. Sox are far more budget constrained at the high end than the Cubs. Meaning ability to expand the budget if they are a player or two away.
  23. QUOTE (soulfly @ Oct 19, 2017 -> 11:45 AM) I don't think it's so much that they traded him. It's who they traded him for. I don't think there was anyone on here that was excited, or thought the Sox should have traded for Shields. I'll still never understand that move, even more so when the medicals come in to play from SD. I don't think its unreasonable to say that trade may end up costing us a world series. One less hole we'd need to fill with a cost controlled star. Time will tell. Never liked that trade from the day it was announced.
  24. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Oct 18, 2017 -> 11:25 AM) Yankees having effectively 4 closers on most other teams in the same bullpen is crazy. Well no one wanted them apparently. Guess Yankees were smarter than the rest. Robertson was on the market longer than anyone we traded.
