  1. QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Oct 16, 2017 -> 12:18 PM) How does this rule encourage bigger leadoffs? Or have anything to do with leadoffs in general? The problem wasn't Lobaton's leadoff....he got back to the base in time. You have to be mindful of getting back to the bag and staying on it the bigger your leadoff is. That’s part of the risk in taking a leadoff. If you’re going to change that you might as well let runners slide past 2nd or 3rd base on steal attempts or force plays as long as they “touched base” before the ball got there. It’s no different. No reason to make the field rules inconsistent
  2. Nothing forces him to take a lead off.... I have no idea why this is even a debate. If he’s too slow to properly get back to the bag, maybe he needs to shorten his lead off. Any rule will just encourage bigger lead offs then pitchers are going to spend even more time trying to shorten leads and pick guys off which is bad for watchability of games.
  3. Looks like the Indians may choke big time two years in a row. Unreal...
  4. It never made sense to give up anything for Shields. Was an overpaid washed up gas can then. Still is now. Would’ve given up a 30 year old AAAA player for him at most. There was no market for a guy who gives up home runs to Bartolo f’ing Colon. One of the worst trades in recent memory but for some reason people who see their fandom as an extension of the front office will defend it. And look very foolish doing it.
  5. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Sep 30, 2017 -> 07:48 PM) I think he said that the Avi trade may be the best in Sox history . Even Hawk isn't silly enough to suggest Avi will be better than Big Hurt. He did say Fernando Rodney would end up in the hall of fame :shrug
  6. Dont know what to make of Fulmer. Probably will have a major league role in the long term but the wildly inconsistent performance is a little unsettling
  7. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Sep 30, 2017 -> 09:46 PM) Look at the bright side. This should be the last thread if it's kind for a long time. That was the idea behind getting the top pick...
  8. I hope it’s an AL team so we can be confident we have one less team to worry about in the playoff hunt going forward.
  9. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 28, 2017 -> 04:22 PM) If you predict every pitcher will get hurt, you will be right a lot more than wrong. Look at the 2 selected instead o Rodon. Its one reason Theo takes hitters high. Hopefully the team is being straight on the surgery and recovery. They hav n't been very forthcoming with injuries recently. And it isn't a bad time to be out 6-8 months Nope it was specifically issues with his delivery which has not changed. From what I remember it was why he fell from 1st overall. He was clearly the most talented and major league ready starter at the top of that draft.
  10. People predicted injury issues for him when he was drafted (not me). I guess Sale is next up.
  11. QUOTE (miracleon35th @ Sep 27, 2017 -> 10:41 PM) The league should investigate the Tigers for intentionally losing/tanking . If found to be guilty of that the penalty should be a loss of their first round pick. Sox always play well when the games don't matter. It's been that way for decades.
  12. I am excited about the rotation though. It's shaping up nicely with Kopech, Hansen, and Dunning on the way.
  13. Chicago teams suck at tanking. Always have.
  14. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 21, 2017 -> 04:13 PM) Or you play him at 3B, where he can be a home grown cost controlled star. Regardless, I think it's way too premature to be having this conversation. Depending on what happens with Burger. Someone would get moved.
  15. QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 21, 2017 -> 03:57 PM) We acquired some pretty good prospects by trading some elite players. Flip it. Right. If TA ends up good you move Turang for a cost controlled all star at our biggest need.
  16. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Sep 21, 2017 -> 01:56 PM) If we draft someone in 2018 that isn't ready till 2024 that would suck. The club options won't be picked up if he busts so it's actually 2022 when we would hypothetically need a replacement available in the system. Turang would be around 21-22 at that time. He should be ready by then. Point is if TA busts that is a hard position to fill with an impact player at a reasonable cost at that point of the rebuild. To have an internal option to replace him if need be is gold.
  17. QUOTE (cjgalloway @ Sep 21, 2017 -> 10:20 AM) Sorry, I wasn't insinuating I want him drafted. I also love Turnag and Hankins. I just wouldn't put it past the Sox with the players they've been drafting. The good thing with Turang is he's probably major league ready by the time Anderson's contract is up.
  18. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Sep 20, 2017 -> 11:06 AM) Yep. Looking at the stats, the difference between Gallo and the rest is Gallo takes more walks which gives him more opportunities to score more runs for his team. Gallo is more of a left handed Chris Carter. Hits some bombs, draws some walks, K's a ton and hits for s***. Exactly. Close to half of Gallo's hits are homers.
  19. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Sep 20, 2017 -> 08:27 PM) If Astros hang on then the Sox would control their own destiny for the #1 pick. Please give us the #1 pick for once!
  20. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 16, 2017 -> 11:07 PM) Are u crazy? I am a WHITE SOX fan. I want to win. If the rebuild fails I'll want Hahn fired of course but I'll be SAD. I wanna win now; I want to win in 4 years. I WANT TO WIN. I care less about personal vindication. As a fan I have a right to want the team to SHOW ME. If the rebuild works, great. We win pennants. If it fails, I'll be very upset as I want W after W whether you believe that or not. That other fan who caused your post was saying he'd take great joy in ripping us Avi supporters when he fails next year. Real class. Cry about it snowflake. You complain about all these trades we made that are going to allow us to contend for a world series. if we had it your way we'd still have a roster full of austin jacksons, matt albers, and jimmy rollins. and then you'd complain about not winning. hilarious. The funny thing about this site now is its very difficult to search old threads. If some people's track records on these things were more clearly visible a lot of people would get ignored. That's another thing this site could use - an ignore feature. That way I can ignore anyone who's proven to be clueless.
  21. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 16, 2017 -> 10:58 PM) Anderson nearing .270; he's suddenly one of baseball's finest prospects. Davidson 25 homers; congrats Mr. Davidson, hope you make some money playing this game of baseball. Think about it. Anderson has gone from a dismal season to an untouchable hot prospect. Congrats TA. nearing .270? .263 is nowhere near .270 this late in a season. still can't walk to save his life he has to hit well over .300 to have good offensive value.
  22. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 15, 2017 -> 07:12 PM) Garcia. Avi Garcia looked like a non-tender candidate coming into this season (not DFA, but close enough). The argument is: Avi has done this for 1 year after looking like a non-tender candidate Avi is 2 years away from FA and if we're not trading him, the time to extend him is now. Extending him now is a very high risk move as 1 year ago he looked like a non-tender candidate. Extending him mid-rebuild could "cripple" the rebuild in his words. Not sure I agree with several parts of that, but that's the statemetn. He's looked like a DFA or non-tender every season we've had him except this one. Going to laugh at all you fools once AGAIN when he reverts to his usual self next year. But hopefully someone gives us something good before then so we don't have to experience that. It's a quintessential Billy Beane trade. Sell high after the career year and get toolsy high upside players who had down years. Rinse repeat.
  23. Rotation still would not have been good enough with all that said. Rodon and Burdi still would have gotten injured. They had no pitching depth in high minors before trades. And I doubt Avi would have figured in their plans if they went for it again.
