I you are a cub fan go ahead. Nothing positive comes from losing...nothing. You break the spirit of the players and the fans and diminish the franchise in every way imaginable. That is why I don't trust or respect the opinions of those who relish in WSox losses.

The area 78 stadium proposal was created solely by the filth that owns that strip of land, and that isn't Jerry Reinsdorf.
Sox are not going to relocate to crooked creek and no one should expect taxpayers or Reinsdorf to throw 2 Billion dollars at that developer.
Amazon and others pulled out of there and the Sox should distance themselves from it as well. There are other alternatives and right now there is nothing wrong with GR field. Meanwhile, as everyone knows, the problem is not enough talent on the current roster. Adding talent may be easier said than done, but it must be done.

Cub fans hate Eloy. That's one of the reasons he is my favorite WSox player. Mostly though, he brings some excitement for fans with every at-bat.

The 1977 WSox probably drew more fans than almost any other WSox team in the history of the franchise. The reasons for the attendance draw were basically twofold - Harry Carey and a team that hit a lot of clutch home runs. The '83 Sox had a great team but the fan support started early on with Fisk, Luzinski and Kittle hitting roof top shots.
I realize that winning games is the ultimate goal, but a lot of fans come out to see home runs. Our line-up, even at full strength, has not produced enough home runs at GRF to create any reason for a lot of fans to attend.

You must not go to any games based on your comments. Eloy and Vaughn stretch their hamstrings before games on the field (and for Eloy, between at-bats as well). Both of them also use rubber band stretch rings around their ankles prior to games to exercise their legs.

It's easy for some to hate others, especially those who don't necessarily look like them. Eloy is a great player and one of the nicer players I have ever met.

It is hard to remain competitive when management and scouts make very poor decisions year after year. There was no reason to trade Cease at this point as the most recent example. Without him the rotation is really awful.

Why would any sports team invest a Billion dollars without owning the underlying and surrounding real estate?

Those were not fighting words. We are in our 60's and 70's and don't duke it out with youngsters but we always enjoy conversation with fellow Sox fans, especially genuine fans, and any rational people we meet.
We discussed the ridiculous idea propounded by a greedy developer to move Sox park into a congested South Loop Office high rise park with no parking....at tax payers expense. Everyone (including those we met while tailgating or spoke with later outside Turtles, thought that the 78 idea was preposterous.
Perhaps go to a few games, drive around the neighborhoods North and West of the park and have a drink at one of the bars adjacent to Armor Park. Look at the Chicago skyline from there. The latest 78 concept was a Hail Marty pass by Related to finally obtain public financing by crammimg a baseball stadium within a silly rendering (which they finally tinted green to patronize South side fans). It's not gonna happen.

The Opener is always a wonderful experience win or lose and yesterday was no exception. GRate was in top condition and showed no signs of deterioration inside or any need for replacement It doesn't. The field was in optimum condition and will look even better when the ivy in Center field greens up. Tailgating was as it always is for an Opener, crazy good with tremendous camaraderie among Sox fans including sharing barbecue tricks, food and spirits and memories of prior seasons and games. I had some great interactions with other fans tailgating before the game and after the game at Cork and Kerry.
As you know, Crochet was fantastic and our bullpen held the game within striking distance. Luck was not with the Sox on that day. A few balls were smashed by Sox hitters including a deep line drive by Eloy that the LFer made a shoestring catch on. That one could have changed the game. Eloy was on everything and could easily have sent the game into extra innings with one swing. Baez taunted us by throwing a balls at the screen in front of us and exchanging some bad looks and verbal taunts. Maybe Grifol should order a few brush back pitches when he comes up next time.
The biggest problem this season will be Cub trolls that are aimed at trying to depress Sox fans and spin everything in the most negative light. Many of them are on this forum... really negative people.
Meanwhile, the Sox know what they have to do including bolstering the bottom half of the line-up with one or two guys that can hit for power and constantly looking to improve the rotation. This team needs to start adding some talent instead of looking to trade it away.

I don't appreciate your disrespect, arrogance and passive aggressiveness. But go ahead if that makes you feel that you are smarter and more experienced in the subject than others, including those you know nothing about.
The White Sox have options moving forward. Related apparently doesn't. Related and the prior ownership tried several options to develop that site over the course of decades and all have failed. Don't blame me for not trolling for Related. The reasons for the failures to develop 78 go well beyond the facts in my posts. Most involve money and more specifically, the need to use other people's money (i.e., Illinois and Chicago tax payers) .
Pritzker has left the door open but his comments pretty much telegraph that he believes there should be private funding for any new sports stadium. As an IL tax payer, I concur.

IMO, wholesale changes to the rotation and bullpen from last season make it extremely difficult to predict which way the 2024 season will go. In 2023, they were, trrible. (Barkley).
Of course, it doesn't look good now, but sometimes low expectations can lead to a fighting underdog that over-performs and creates fan excitement around them. Sometimes even the harshest critics lose short term memory and are among the first to jump aboard a new bandwagon.

Contrary to the title of the posting, the Sox are not and have not been looking to relocate to the South loop. The plan and promotion of that concept was generated by a developer who owns land and have (unsuccessfully) sought numerous ways and means to develop it for a few decades. The 78 thing is the latest pipe dream of Related development for many reasons including those mentioned by SSHM above.
IMO, the Bears and the Sox would likely consider moving if and only if they were to relocate on land they own and have control over, including to some extent, development of surrounding land and revenue generated from it. The only way I see the Sox entering into another lease (if that is the way they choose to go) would be with the cooperation of the ISFA, the Governor, Mayor and respective legislatures on all matters. In the political climate we are now in, that seems unlikely. No public funding, especially for unnecessary projects.

There was one shooting I recall over the past few decades - a woman who got by security with a pistol under a fold of fat and accidentally shot herself in the foot.
GRF security screens everyone entering with metal detectors, just like the airport. Sports stadiums have thousands of people drinking alcohol so sometimes brawls break out but generally they all do a good job.

Solid Flunking grade. Thorpe was the centerpiece? or a 19 year old outfielder?
Minimally one major league ready position player that filled a hole would have justified a trade for our Ace pitcher.
If Thorpe makes the starting rotation this season and pitches well for us, then the trade will look better.

I thought Kopech would be wise to switch to the pen and maybe attain the Closer role several years ago (when he was throwing 100+ to the first few hitters). MK has shown over the years that he sometimes loses focus as a game wears on. In the pen he could be more effective trying to focus all his energy into one inning, whether as a closer or set-up man. He still has that energy that could be unleashed in a short outing if he could harness it and throw enough strikes to get ahead of hitters. I'm still behind him but as with many pro athletes approaching 30 years old (like TA) their energy diminishes and the edge they once had is gone.

I have enumerated facts supported by links why the 78 site makes no sense for the WSox, coupled with my own opinions and reasoning and no, it wasn't only about parking. However, it would be short sighted to discount that. I do not want to re-litigate the Related/78 proposal, but to highlight a few points.
The 78 site is over a former river bed and dump site. Related is looking (once again) through rose colored glasses with their hands out after their prior proposals for that site (going back over 20 years) have failed. Reorienting streets, railroad tracks, and ingress/egress for the 78 would add tremendously to development costs for the City and State over developing other sites, including the Bridgeport or Bronzeville/M. Reese site.
The 78 rendering of a nondescript baseball stadium within an office park was uninspiring. Related patronizing fans with a later version of their rendering painted green for St. Pat's day, was insulting.
