  1. Unless Abreu is making 18-20 million via arbitration that's just not true. And regardless Abreu's contract is likely still much more favorable in its year to year setup than giving Napoli multiple years.
  2. Probably already been talked about - but with the Astros looking at Napoli and other DH/1B types, you've gotta think Abreu is being discussed as well. Saves them a lot of money and it's easier for them to justify a Bregman starting point.
  3. So...where does Bregman play? Maybe Gurriel to First, but still.
  4. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Nov 17, 2016 -> 11:18 AM) I'd like to see Liriano play a bit. Losing the other two wouldn't be a big deal, but I think Rymer has potential. Agreed. He's the type of lotto ticket you've gotta play during a rebuild. He's always hit in the minors, draws quite a few walks and some power.
  5. Two Questions for those of you that know better than I do: 1) What happens to moves after Friday? i.e. if a guy is on the 40 man by Friday, can he be moved back off before the draft without losing protection? 2) Is it possible that the Friday deadline is holding up potential Sox (or other team) moves? If we were to complete a trade and begin accumulating prospects before Friday, I assume some may need to be protected, correct?
  6. Q having that extra year of control really helps too. I guess to play devil's advocate a Sale trade could set a huge market price this offseason, however, and teams might get desperate.
  7. Ned Colletti was just on MLB Network and said he thinks the Dodgers make some big unexpected splashes. No mention of the White Sox but he's a Senior Advisor to the Dodgers so maybe he knows something.
  8. This feels like a 3 team scenario. I really don't see the Braves unloading Swanson. But they could easily get some top position player talent from another team sent the Sox way if they include enough arms.
  9. Yeah Ozzie Guillen Jr. said the exact same thing, Sale and Frazier in a package.
  10. Abreu opting out: https://twitter.com/csnhayes/status/798271830490378241
  11. Bellinger looks like a stud, and they have 2 more top 100 position players plus some intriguing guys like Barnes or even Lux. In combination with De Leon or Urias I think there's plenty there to make it a great deal.
  12. May help explain the timing on the Brett Lawrie oddity if an infielder is coming back as part of the package (i.e. Calhoun, Barnes to an extent).
  13. The only thing I can think of: Saladino still has like 5 years of control left. If he can keep up his 2 WAR pace from last year, he actually becomes a much more valuable trade chip than Lawrie (who put up a lower WAR in roughly the same amount of games).
  14. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Nov 12, 2016 -> 08:37 PM) still nothing other than rumors, everyone being tight lipped AF https://twitter.com/barstoolWSD/status/797612124818259968 Straight up reading tea leaves here, but people being tight lipped about it makes me feel like something else is in the works. No reason for that if it's just a non-tender situation.
  15. You guys are being pretty pessimistic, Jay Bruce is a much worse player and fetched a good prospect. Frazier is likely to get a QO even if he plays around the same level. That alone is worth a solid prospect.
  16. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Nov 10, 2016 -> 10:00 AM) Avisail Garcia non-tendered This just happen or are you hoping it does?
  17. Not sure if this is new but Hayes just posted it: https://twitter.com/csnhayes/status/796481358994370560 Edit: looks like it was today
  18. Dan Hayes on Twitter: "Can't say definitively, bc Rick Hahn qualified everything w/ "regardless of which direction" taken -- but all signs say #WhiteSox will sell."
  19. QUOTE (southside hitman @ Nov 8, 2016 -> 10:14 AM) I know before his Tommy John surgery he was regarded as a strong defender who could play all three OF position with a plus arm. After the injuries and missing all of 2016 he is a bit of an unknown to how his body responded, but it is encouraging he is putting up strong numbers in the Dominican Republic. Would be awesome to have him turn into even a solid regular. We'be gotta be due for a break right??
  20. Merkin saying they probably won't be big spenders, regardless of the path chosen. Not sure how much stock to put into it, but it's interesting.
  21. http://m.whitesox.mlb.com/news/article/208...ction-for-2017/ "That direction, even in a full rebuild, could include the addition of a free agent or two. But regardless of the path chosen, the White Sox probably won't be major spenders in the open market." Not sure how looped in Merkin actually is, but curious timing (start of free agency exactly, 12:01 am), and this really feels like posturing for an imminent rebuild.
  22. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Nov 7, 2016 -> 10:18 AM) Ken Rosenthal article on top trade targets. Hes supposed to be talking about it on the hot stove on mlb network http://www.foxsports.com/mlb/gallery/ken-r...-targets-110716 The market conditions for a trade of Sale could not be much better. Sale is under control for three more seasons and $38 million -- not terribly beyond what Zack Greinke makes in a single year. The free-agent starters, meanwhile, are mostly pitchers that teams do not want, certainly not at market-driven prices. Will the White Sox want a ton for Sale? Of course. And they could get it, too. ^ Just watched him on Hot Stove - he got asked if he thinks Sale gets dealt. Says he thinks so, because the Sox have no real choice but to rebuild at this point.
  23. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Nov 6, 2016 -> 12:51 PM) https://www.bostonglobe.com/sports/redsox/2...hdSK/story.html Chicago White Sox — More than one GM has said that White Sox GM Rick Hahn is open for business on just about his entire roster. That includes Chris Sale and the rest of the rotation, Jose Abreu, third baseman Todd Frazier, and closer David Robertson. Really hope this indicates rebuild, or at least selling some valuable assets for young talent.
  24. ^^ It was on MLB Network Radio earlier
  25. Pure speculation, but some hope they do the rational thing: @JimBowden_ESPN on #WhiteSox off season "teams are going to line up for Sale and Quintana. I think they're going to sell all"
