  1. Should be. A lot of fun hopefully the weather will cooperate. Tailgating. At the cell, should be a great time. Hope this is scheduled on a regular basis
  2. They ought to schedule as many concerts as possible on any non home date. Many bands would outdraw the baseball team and the local restaurants and bars will love the traffic
  3. I've been a Sox fan for decades but this team makes it so hard to stay interested
  4. Rare to see a team with such bad injury luck as the Sox this year
  5. Sox have cut alot of payroll off the budget going into 2017 No more $1M buyout for A Ramirez Rollins $2M Matt A's $3M Danks $15M Duke $5M, at least I thought he was getting $5m it could be more Austin Jackson will likely not be resigned since he's been on the DL for 2 months so there's another $5M savings Morneau will be a FA after this year, they could possibly sign him but assuming they don't that's another $1M saved, hope they can keep him but they may get outbid. And of course the DH who could not hit who saved the team $13M when he retired with a year left on his contract So assuming all that, Hahn has $45 M he should be able to spend in either Free Agency or in acquiring more expensive talent through trades. That is alot of $ and the amount could be higher if Shields decides to opt out of his current contract which would save at least another $10M to make the total $55M. I hope they can keep Shields, he seems to have turned himself in a positive direction and with the Padres ponying up half of his salary for the balance of his contract he makes an inexpensive 3-4th starter. If he opts out, that about cuts the payroll in half. To be competitive in 2017 and to keep the fanbase interested in the team, Hahn has better acquire 1) At least one more quality arm for the Bullpen 2) Make a strong push for one more quality starter, Rich Hill who has a 9-3 2.25 stat line will be a FA and could likely be had with a 2 year contract considering his age. A Sale, Quintana, Shields, Hill & Rondon rotation is better than nearly every other team in the league 3) A RF who is solid defensively and hits for average and power. Possibly Dexter Fowler (don't hate on my just an idea) or likely somebodyelse. 4) A solid defensive Catcher who hits for aveage. Lucroy is a rare commodity and would come at a high price which is why keeping Shields and signing Hill are important. I'd trade any of the 5 starting pitchers for Lucroy except Sale. Would need at least 1 more player coming from the Brewers if Quintana traded.. A Fowler like RF and Lucroy would fill 2 huge holes in the lineup and make the team better defensively. A Sale, Shields, Hill & Rodon rotation would still be very solid and the team should score much more and play ever better D. Plus there should still be alot of $ that can be spent during the season on any needed player acquisitions shouls season ending injuries take place among key talent.
  6. YES. trade Rodon to Oskland for Hill. Ro don is not good enough for this rotation. Once Hill is on board, trade Quintana for 2 quality position players who can hit like Lucroy plus 1. Milwaukee would part with Lucroy for a top line starter. That gives u a Sale Shields Hill rotation with a much stronger lineup with a great receiver. If that does not make the Sox a contender I do not know what will Rodon is 2-8 with a high era, stick a fork in him
  7. When is Lawrie scheduled to return? Sure could have used his bat in the Cub series
  8. Will be interesting to see if he decides to opt out or stay with his current contract going into 2017. FA pitching options this offseason are sparse and he may actually end up with a better offer. if he does, the WS got him for half a season for almost nothing. Decent move by Hahn Want to see him pull off 2 more. A Garcia and the backup SS & 2B for Rich Hill, then trade Quintana for 2 professional hitters and a quality prospect. Adding 2 hitters to this line up just might be enough to get the last Wildcard position. If not you have a much better lineup for 2017 along with a Rotation of Sale, Hill, possibily Shields and Rodon; pretty solid and hopefully a top flight prospect to add to the farm system
  9. QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Jul 21, 2016 -> 07:41 AM) Their "value" isn't helping this team win and there's no help coming from the minors. We need to figure out how to get 4-5 good young position players infused into this team, and like it or not Sale and Q represent the only chance of getting that Yep I agree, have to part with one of them because this is a below .500 team with both because this organization does a lousy job of drafting and developing positoin players. Almost all the best position players on this team came here from a trade and that trade normally involved the Sox parting with a pitcher except in the Frazier trade. Before you trade Q, team has to make a bid for Rich Hill, he's the best starting pitcher on a losing team that is out of the race in all of MLB. He's 9-3 with a 2.25 in 14 starts. Has the 2nd lowest ERA in the AL among starters with 14 or more games pitched. He's a FA after this year, so Oakland will want young position players that they can coach up like Saladino & A Garcia. With all the salary that is coming off the payroll this year (Danks $15M, Latos $3M, likely Morneau $1m, the Garcia $1M buyout (last year's starting SS) Rollins $2M) plus the $13M more that fell into ownership's lap when the DH who couldn't hit decided to retire a year early. That is at least $35M and it could be more if SHields decides to opt out of his contract after this year, which would put another $10M into ownership's hands. That is a HUGE amount of $. Trade for Hill, offer him 2 years at $13-$15M. That gives you the winningest pitcher in MLB and the #2 in ERA among AL starters as your #2 starter. Q should bring back a boat load of talent as the mets roster is in shables, the Dodgers Roster is in shambles and the Brewers have a bunch of good postion players who hit well but have no starting pitching. Q needs to bring back 2 top line position players who hit well plus some prospects at the very least. Signing Hill will make this team better for 2017 even if no other trades happen because ownership will have a boatload of $ they can invest in the farm system and sign at least 1 quality FA. Thoughts?
  10. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Jul 20, 2016 -> 06:05 PM) Why pay that much for a 36+ year old hill and with the market being crap next year hes probably going to get more then that. Rodon is cheaper and still under control for a while and younger. Who in the sox system after trading rodon is capable of getting lucroy let alone anyone else extra Rodon is cheap and under team control but he has not shown me much. What about Saladino and Garcia for Hill, Garcia is on almost everyone's exit list and Saladino will not be a starting position player for this team. Yeah next year's FA pitching class is not much but IMO the Sox have a better chance of resigning Hill if he's on the team for the 2nd half of the season expecially if he has a quality receiver to throw to in Lucroy. WS have 2 ACE starters, most MLB rotations have none. Getting Hill to add to Sale & Rodon gives Hahn the flexibility to trade Quintana who is way under paid and should get the Sox at least 2 starting position players with good bats in return. Lucroy is a terrific Catcher with a quality bat and while Braun is on the wrong side of 30, he is still playing at a high level, maybe you ask for a 3rd player (prospect) from the Brewers. Add Lucroy and Braun to this lineup and it is much improved which will take some of the pressure off the pitching staff since they won't have to throw the perfect pitch all the time to win. Trade for Hill and you have a Sale, Hill, Shields and Rodon rotation for the rest of this year; very solid. Remember also that lots of salary is coming off the payroll this offseason (Latos $3M, Rollins $2M, Rodriguez buy out $1M,likely Morneau $1M, Danks $15M plus the Sox have another $13M back early by 1 year because the DH who couldn't hit retired) that's $35M That's $ that can be spent on Shields (if he decides to stay, if he opts out then the Sox have another $10M at least to spend) and/or Hill plus any talent they get in trade for Quintana. This team needs postion players who can hit and trading Quintana the only way to get them besides trading Sale which is a non starter for me
  11. QUOTE (hi8is @ Jul 20, 2016 -> 01:45 PM) 1.) Welcome aboard!!! 2.) Your ideas are about the worst proposals I've ever seen since posting here in 2003. Rodon, Saladino, and Garcia... For a rental of Rich Hill?? What??????? The number three draft pick in the country two years ago, a positive WAR utility player, and a league average young guy with potential unrealized talent... For two months of a reinvented pitcher coming off an injury? ro Dude. 3.) Please stay and keep posting. 1) Saladino will not be a starter for this team and I get it that you need quality backups but Hill is a pitcher that could be signed for a 2 year deal at a reasonable price. He's 36 and having a heck of a year (9-3 2.25 era) 2nd lowest ERA in the AL for a starter with 14 or more starts. a 9-3 record on a team that is 10 games or more below .500 is a heck of an accomplishment. Rodon does not seem to be ML material to me, just an opinion. If they could get Hill for Garcia and Saladino, what would your thoughts be? I want to add an arm to the rotation before trading Quintana. The team does not score enough and the only way they are going to get decent position players with quality bats is by parting with a top line starter (Quintana). I believe Hill can be persuaded to sign a 2 year deal at this age and at a reasonable $12-$15M salary. Remember the Sox are cutting off alot of payroll after this year with Latos, danks, rolllins, possibly Morneau and of course no more buyout for the ex starting SS of $1M and the ex DH who retired at the start of this season who could not hit, another $13M savings. That's a total of $35M in total lost payroll, which leaves them with alot of $ to sign talent if there is a fit. Yep Braun is on the wrong side of 30 but still a heck of a player, add LuCroy, him and Hill and IMO the lineup is much better, they are better defensively and the rotation is still solid
  12. Hello all, am glad I found this forum. Regarding trades and player moves, the Sox do have some nice pieces (Sale, Frazier, Quintana, Jones, Eaton) some talent that has overperformed this year , perhaps slightly ( Laurie, Eaton, Quintana) and Shields has started to turn himself in a positive direction; cannot blame him for the losses the last 2 starts as he kept the opponent in check. What has been killing this team is the lack of production from Melky, Abreu, from the Catcher's spot in the lineup and especially Garcia. Yeah I know, thanks Captain Obvious for pointing this out. Pitching wins in the playoffs but in order to get there you have to be able to hit, manufacture and score runs. The best starting pitcher available on a losing team that is out of the pennant race if Oakland's Rich Hill who is also on the final year of his contract, Oakland will need to trade him because they rarely spend the $ NEEDED to sign Free Agents. Hill had an injury hick up but came back from that with his 9th win in his last start vs only 3 losses in just 14 starts. With a 2.25 ERA he has the 2nd lowest in the league among starters with at least 14 games started. Given his age (36) and the payroll space the Sox will have next year not having the Danks, Rollins, Rodriguez ? buyout (last year's starting SS), Latos and possibly not Morneau; the team will have plenty of payroll space to add a starter especially if Shields chooses to opt out of his current contract (which he has the option to do so after this season) which would free up at least another $10M in payroll. Oakland likes young and cheap players in return that they can coach up. Sox should package Rodon(who I don't believe has what it takes to be an effective starter), Saladino(will not get PT with Anderson) & Garcia in trade for Hill. It may sound like alot but those 3 will not have much impact on the team going forward and are all at low salaries. Oakland can't expect any more in return for a player they know they will not resign. Once that trade is completed and it should be done ASAP, the Sox have a painful decision to make as they would have a great starting rotation of Sale, Quintant, Hill & Shields but not enough bats in the lineup to produce the runs needed to win and compete for the Playoffs. Quintana has greatly overperformed where I thought his ceiling is and his record has suffered due to the lack of run support. He is young and under a team friendly contract for the next 3 years. There are several NL teams who would love to have him and I believe the Sox can get at least 2 starring position players in return. For example Milwaukee has not had a #1 starter in it's rotation in years (a role Quintana can fill) and they have several fine position players who hit well. they've not won because their pitcher is horrible. As much as I would want to add Braun, he is on the wrong side of 30 playing in the outfield, he's having a great year but I'd rather get Chris Carter who while a 1B can DH. He has hit alot of HR's the last 4 years for Houston & Milwaukee along with Lucroy who is an outstanding Catcher (a position of Sox need) and has hit for a .300 or higher average 3 of the last 5 years with a low of .264 last year and .280 in 2013. Would rather get at least those 2 in a trade but would take Braun and Lucroy. there are likely other teams that have 2 bats the WS would want, am more familair with Milwaukee. This is alot ot get done before trade deadline but that is what a top GM is for and Hahn hsa provide he can get deals done. These 2 trades get the WS back in the wildcard race and with the payroll room they will have next year they should not have trouble resigning FA's like Hill, Thoughts?
