  1. Also when they removed the Goose from the RF concourse
  2. lol... Jacob May, who my dad would accidently call Carlos Lee who my dad would accidently call Carlos May.
  3. I don't understand why the general consensus opinion of the Cease trade on Soxtalk (and only Soxtalk), that you and the experts disagree with, is evidence of the trade being a "headscratcher." Give yourself more credit! Your thoughts on the trade align with the pros haha. Maybe I have to read more about Jose Rodriguez. Before this thread, I didn't realize people thought so highly of him.
  4. 1. The professionals he is talking about broadcast and publish their thoughts to the public. I don't remember any expert trashing the deal. 2. I mean more goes into roster decisions than just "age." Do you think all rebuilding teams just decide who to drop based on date of birth? If this team was good and everyone was happy, I don't think anyone would care about dropping Jose Rodriguez outside of someone like Josh Nelson. 3. I think its safe to say Fletcher is more likely to be a good major leaguer than Jose Rodriguez.
  5. Just like people are not calling Crochet an ace after 2 starts, I'm not going to make any determination on Dom Fletcher on April 4. If he turns out to be bad, that's on Getz and the front office. It was a baseball trade. They targeted a guy they liked and got him. I don't remember Hahn ever really doing that. It was like when KW went and got "The Carlos Quentin." The idea is that this guy is someone who can be a starting OFer for the team in the future. Are they correct? Who knows. But I wouldn't call it a headscratcher. I see the thought process. The Cease deal is also early to judge. You say an overwhelming majority feels it was a bad return. Outside of Soxtalk and twitter, I don't know if I agree. Guys like Jim Callis all seem to think it was fair.
  6. Ok, so what's your implication? That Getz is so loyal to (obsessed with?) the Kansas City Royals that he brought a guy in to spring training (and then cut) at the expense of deserving players (that he also failed to develop into viable MLBers) because he wanted to spend more time with a former teammate for a couple weeks? Maybe. It could also be that Moustakas was a guy they took a no-risk chance to bring in to see if he had anything left and it didn't work out. You know, like what happens every spring with every team.
  7. I think we'd hear a lot of "Barfield worked for Arizona and LaRussa worked for Arizona so he's essentially an internal hire." And then Barfield would have hired some nerd from the Diamondbacks to negotiate contracts and calculate budgets and people would cite him as proof of more of the same.
  8. Grifol is a moron and he's not going to be around after this year. If Getz signs Grifol to an extension, I'll join you guys in the outrage. Wasting precious spring training at bats to a guy (that didn't make the team!) they hoped would maybe take a roster spot away from another guy people wanted to DFA instead of Jose Rodriguez was a horrible thing. I agree. I hope the organization can overcome that in the coming years.
  9. No. I am saying the vast majority of people who are crying are not doing so because they have reservations about Gene Watson..... And out of the people that do fall into that group? I'm willing to bet most of it doesn't go beyond a superficial "Watson = KC = bad." Do you think the average (or even most die hard) fan can tell you much about Gene Watson's scouting ability or any details about his ability to do the job he has? Go outside the ballpark and ask 100 people who Gene Watson and see what the responses are.
  10. Ok. forgot about him. I'm sure the over the top complaining surrounding the organization and Getz is based on the director of player personnel hire. Sox fans are a sophisticated bunch.
  11. The Royals thing is fun to joke about and all but its kind of overblown. Who has Getz signed/hired besides some stopgaps like Nicky Lopez and Tim Hill? Everyone was convinced we'd get Salvador Perez and Whit Merrifield. That didn't happen. Everyone was certain that Dayton Moore was coming. That didn't happen. Getz was buddies with Bannister from his days in KC. So what? Bannister worked for Boston and SF and did good things. Should they not have brought him on board because they had a KC connection? Am I missing any super important signing/hiring that was given to a KC person longterm? Anyone who gets a job is going to hire people they previously worked with. Its how the world works.
  12. "He's just a continuation of the previous regime" As if the team had hired Josh Barfield to run the whole thing, people would magically be content. hahaha no way.
  13. I think it is that simple. The guy turned over an incredible % of the roster in one offseason. His top assistants in the front office are all from outside the organization. He has clearly been operating differently than the previous guys. People just like to b****. We don't know if he'll end up being any good at his job... but so far it doesn't seem like a change in name only.
  14. A significant portion of the fanbase has just been pouting for the last 10 months. The rebuild failed. It sucks. They are bad now. Get over it.
  15. I didn't like them hiring Getz at the time and wished they did a more extensive search and interview process. That being said, its unfair to him to simplify it like this. He obviously is doing things differently than the last regime. If the system wasn't developing enough players while he was the farm director, that could fall on him. It also could fall on the guys picking the players. It also could fall on his bosses not listening to him in terms of promotions/demotions etc. Its hard to tell from our point of view. "Getz was director of player development, therefore every move he makes is bad,.. even when its an insignificant move like DFAing a fringe prospect that he failed to develop in his prior capacity as farm director" sounds like a nonsense take to me.
  16. When they play in Sacramento, will they be called the Oakland Athletics? Sacramento Athletics? Vegas Athletics?
  17. If they can't develop and all their guys suck, why the handwringing about dropping one of those guys?
  18. On Soxtalk, Mena is somehow simultaneously a future stud who will haunt us and also an example of the organization's failures to develop talent.
  19. Just because a contract looks good for a team a couple years after it is signed, doesn't mean it was a hometown discount.
  20. I figured NBC Sports would just go away and Stadium Network would get the rights to the same games and take its place on all the same cable carriers and streaming services. I would imagine you could get the same/similar carriage fees and the teams wouldn't have to split with Comcast/NBC.
  21. I guess it depends on how good he is and what type of returns are possible. Obviously, I'd take very little back in terms of players if it meant we could clear most of his $ and roster spot. He doesn't really line up with the new window. If we are getting an actual prospect, I'd be ok with eating a decent amount too.
