24 teams passed on Mike Trout too. If Burdi is better, then he should close. Not saying he's going to be better but using the fact that 25 teams passed on him is irrelevant.

Yes, but high school position prospects from NJ are a lot harder to assess and project.

At least compared to closers for legit Division 1 programs with lots of exposure.

What else would Milwaukee be getting for Braun? I thought (but could be mistaken) that he was still a fan favorite in Milwaukee and that the owner liked him. Puig is rumored to be a horrible clubhouse teammate as well. Unless the Brewers are saving significant money and/or receiving 1-2 good prospects, what is the upside to making this trade for them?

Milwaukee would be getting out of a long term contract, and freeing up some payroll.

You're going to pay Robertson elite closer money to set up...for a guy 25 other teams passed on?

If Burdi was guaranteed elite, to be better even than Robertson, he should have gone in the top 3-5 picks. This idea of him just absolutely dominating from the get go like Jenks in 2005 is pretty far-fetched.

Who was the last elite closer to be taken in the top 3-5 picks? Go ahead, I'll wait.

Deal would have been Puig, McCarthy (probably to help off-set money), and 2 prospects. Not a straight one for one. Was close to happening to point where Braun was waiting outside office for confirmation. Deal didn't happen because they ran out of time.

Doesn't really make sense for the Dodgers. They don't need another highly paid often injured sort of not bad outfielder

Huh? How is a guy with a .306/.371/.537 slash with 27 HRs, 82 RBIs, a 3.2 fWAR and 4.4 bWAR a "sort of not bad outfielder". He also has played in at least 135 games per season every year of his career other than the year he was suspended with an average of 148 games per year. He has not been on the DL since 2014. For his production he is also not that highly paid with an average of $19M over the next four years ($15M option with $4M buyout in 2021).

Again, im not doubting his ability to hit, the crack about "sort of bad outfielder" is a defense only comment. I just think the guy from this point forward would probably fit better in the AL where he can just DH. Chavez Ravine is huge, and Braun is not a good OF, he never has been, and he isnt getting younger
