While I don't think you can allow Russia to have superior nuclear technology, this highlights probably my greatest fear with Trump as president, the fact he may do something stupid or drive other countries to do something stupid.

Reading some people pointing out that a big driver in the US and Russia pulling back from an "arms race" is that an arms race pushes the probability of accidents higher - there's a legendary 20 minute stretch in 1983 when a Soviet computer sent out a false alarm saying the U.S. had launched missiles at the Soviets and it came down to basically one guy saying his gut said it was a false alarm and waiting 20 minutes to see if he was vaporized to avoid a retaliatory strike.

Sounds like the ending of War Games.

Plus, in a nuclear arms race, there's a point where it simply doesn't make sense. With 7000 nukes (or whatever we have right now), we can blow up the world 10 times over. What's the point in adding more?

To prove we have bigger d***s.

Trump Aide Partnered With Firm Run by Man With Alleged KGB Ties

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/201...lleged-kgb-ties

This is the same aide who traffics in crazy conspiracy theories just like trump, violated the rules for handling classified materials, was working for Turkey while sitting in on Trump's security breifings, and is his national security advisor.

Yup. Basically that really happened. So yeah, probably good reason not to push these things.

Yup. And then there was Able Archer (also in 1983), where a NATO exercise caused the Soviets to go on highest alert level with the finger on the button because they thought a first strike might be coming. And a few whoops-we-crashed-a-plane-with-a-nuke-on-it moments.

Trump sniping at Obama now...that peaceful transition lasted almost two months, longer than most would have predicted.

It's now coming into full conflict with the Obama administration's rearguard actions to protect his legacy. Hopefully the foreign policy issues don't blow up into a war while we're waiting for actual Trump directives to be put in place after the 20th.

Yes, refuse to not do YOUR JOB and expect to be PAID as if you DID. Makes sense.

I'd guess that they're paid hourly or by performance rather than salaried, so that wouldn't be asking for compensation for work not performed. They just don't want to perform for Cheeto Benito.

and by refusing work, they might not get offered future work
