White Sox agree to terms on a one-year, $10.825-million contract with first baseman Jose Abreu, avoiding arbitration

$225k more than he would have gotten had he not opted out.

So much for that being a big deal. Jose remains a huge bargain and a very valuable asset.

Abreu is a very good player. With our teams decision to rebuild I am waiting for the usual hate messages to be posted about him especially if the Sox keep him, which they should

You haven't been reading the board then because nowhere have I seen any hate towards Abreu or any other ball players for that matter.

This has been said elsewhere, but it's becoming increasingly clear that Abreu is a good to very-good player, but not a great one. Certainly not the superstar it seemed we had on our hands during his rookie year. Not meant as a dig; he is still on a good deal. His trade value, however, is maybe not as high as we would've expected. Plenty of first basemen out there.

Be nice to have him around if they do keep him.

He has more trade value than anybody else on this team except for Quintana. Abreu is 30 years old, so I think it's pretty safe to say that his best years are NOT ahead of him.

I doubt his trade value will get much higher than it is right now.
