So which players should I be researching that fall in the top 5 picks?

And which are gonna likely fall to the sox?

From the 2018 MLB Draft thread in the Future Sox Board:

The closer this season gets to its conclusion, the more contented I am with our position in this draft class. Hahn and Co. have been singing the "deep draft, no clear number 1" tune for sometime... and that mantra is beginning to finally sink in for me.

Say that hypothetically we're selecting in the 4th slot and the first 3 picks go down like this:

1.) Singer

2.) Madrigal

3.) Turang

I'd then be stoked for them to pick up Hankins, Kelenic, Kowar, Rocker, and even Beer if his 2018 performance puts him back in the top mix.

An interesting guy to watch will be Tristan Beck. I'm in no way suggestion him as an option for our top pick but it'll be fun to follow him.

Just gotta put the faith in Hostetler that they'll get the PBA with our #1 selection... even if it isn't ending up being the 1:1 slot. :crying

If one of those "designated" top 3 are replaced with another player I've listed - then, well... you do the math.

All in all - it's too early to tell.

Sox win, Reds lose, Tigers lose, Phillies win

0.5 games ahead of the Reds with the 5th pick

Sox pick 4th

1.5 GB of the Phillies for the 3rd pick

2 games left. 1st and 2nd pick have now been eliminated.

:headbang

To dumb it down, Phillies HAVE to win their next two games (and the Sox to lose the next two obviously) to leapfrog them for 3rd. As I said a while back, I think we're going to be set at #4. Only the Reds I can see screwing that up if they continue to suck.

I may be a part of the "confused idiot bunch" - but we're not that dumb!

can Covey start the last two games?

He's actually pitched reasonably well recently.

I was thinking another go for Pelfrey - used less than 3 innings yesterday, and it would be a shame to end his season with such a confidence-breaking start.

He did throw 85 innings in those 2 2/3 innings, so maybe wait til Sunday.

Considering we're up against Kubler today - I'm hoping for a 3 - 1 loss.

Fulmer goes 8IP with 0 ER 1 R. Bullpen gives up 2 runs in the 9th.

Kubler goes CG with 1ER, a solo Moncada shot. L

Not likely all around but I'm just saying today's loss probability is high.

Then we've got Volestad to close out 2017... so we're looking good IMO.

He's had 506 minor league at bats while not working much on refining his swing. It's way to early to make speculations about his projection at the MLB level.

The dudes a prospect - and a good one at that. Let's just all agree to sit on the fence with him and keep an eye on how he does in 2018 on both sides of the ball.

I am not proclaiming him dead, but very clearly not in the same tier as Eloy, Kopech, Hansen, and Robert.
