Tanking isn't a one year process. It will be years before this team isn't bad again.

2 1/2 years isn't exactly anywhere close to the 2009-2016 drought of irrelevance.

The White Sox are in a much better position than any recent comparable rebuilds because of the immediate infusion from the three big trades, the presence of Rodon/Abreu/Avi, the surprise signing of Luis Robert and the lack of any bad deals other than Shields.

Next, Detroit and KC will be irrelevant, Minnesota will never spend big and the Indians' pitching and payroll will finally bend in 2018 or likely 2019.

Let's not forget the Indians' attendance is still less than 2,000 more per game despite the World Series appearance and the Sox throwing out one of the worst tank teams in recent MLB history.

Not that they are likely to be big impacts. But the Sox are probably going to buy some potential flippable free agents this winter. They absolutely could help win some games at least. The odds are they will focus on the bullpen - since many other position they might want to fill with homegrown players.

The Sox are going to be shopping in the Mike Pelfrey/Derrick Holland/Anthony Swarzak/Geo Soto/Miguel Gonzalez/Dylan Covey/Willy Garcia/ Rymer Liriano bin this winter. Odds are not that great they will get significant help.

And, if any of the acquired players perform well, they will be flipped mid season and the tanking process will continue

The Trout-less Angels and woeful Twins are hovering just below .500. The Brewers, a truly miserable roster that had no intentions of competing to start the year, are only 0.5 back of the juggernaut Cubs.

All it would take is Rodon/Lopez/Giolito all playing up to their potentials and it will be extremely difficult for the Sox to be so bad again.

The offense, defense, and bullpen are all going to be truly terrible next year. It is actually going to be extremely difficult for this team to win 70 games next year.

Simple, better than expected pitching, Pina/Shaw/Thames gave a lot more than expected, Braun is still solid at his age and Arcia/Santana/Broxton all have a lot of potential and the results are starting to come around due to their minor league system supplementing the big league roster.

If Lopez comes up and pitches well, Giolito maybe makes the team and does well, Rodon continues his progress....I think it's very possible this team falls in the 5-10 range next year. The SP stands a chance of being improved tremendously.

The Sox had Q and a pretty good bullpen for most of this season. Since they got rid of those guys, they are 3-19. Lopez and Giolitto will have to be lights out to make this a team a 90 loss roster, and they couldn't even do that in Charlotte where the Knights are 20 under .500.

The offense and bullpen still will not be strong enough for the White Sox to win consistently in 2018. I'm not sure if we will be the worst team in baseball like in 2017, but I fully expect us to field a bottom 5 team. 2019/2020 we should see big strides forward towards contention as our farm starts to bear fruit.

Shame on those two pitchers for not carrying a team of career MiLBers to victory. There's literally no rationality in your posts sometimes. This one takes the cake.

Good post. They can't lead guys like Delmonico and Moncada to victory in AAA, but should have no problem doing it in the majors with no bullpen and garbage everywhere else, all the while, learning the major league game. LMAO.

The fact is, they could improve the current roster 15 games, which is beyond doubtful, and it's still a 95 loss team. If this current roster was in place since opening day, they lose a minimum of 110, and probably more.

You're the irrational one.

*palm face* that wasn't his point. He wasn't saying those 2 should be doing that in the minors. Just making the case that those who think we will be better with because they are expecting instant dominance as soon as they come up are more than likely wrong.

Sox fans need to be prepared for the team to be just as bad in 2018 as we have seen in the past month. Zero money will be spent in free agency outside of the bargain bin retreads like Swarzak/Pelfrey/Holland, etc.

On the bright side, we have the 2018 and 2019 drafts to look forward to, as well as having tons of money to spend in 2018/2019 free agency. Sox have barely any money on the books beyond next season and the club should be in the mix for impact free agents.

That's the thing, there are more than likely 2 top 5 in the draft players still coming to this organization. Another year or two, and it will also become more clear who may make it and who most likely won't, so they will know what they have to add in free agency. I just hope half these guys are anywhere near as good as they are supposedly capable of being. Then the Sox will be cooking with gas.

'18/'19 drafts will be huge to see how big the window is (assuming a good chunk of the current prospects hit). Hopefully they're competing for playoffs by 2020 and the '18/'19 drafted guys are ready '21/'22 and they have sustained success for multiple years. Maybe even dare I dream, playoffs for TWO years in a row???!?!!?

I underestimated how bad the Giants suddenly are, they even signed Panda. The #1 pick is definitely not locked in yet.

The Sox won't win more than 60 games.

After they lose 7 out of the next 8, they'll be 4-5 games worse than the Giants.
