On Sept call ups Hahn said maybe another C, couple more pen arms, maybe another OF. Did mention Giolito specifically, but refused to confirm or deny... while kind of hinting that they would call him up. Wouldn't mention specific names, wanted to inform players first. Haven't decided on any specifics as of yet.

Will say that unequivocally, Brian asked better questions in his podcast than Perkins did as a 50,000 watt radio station host.

Thanks for the update

The most interesting thing Hahn clearly said the report that JR held up the deal for a period of days was "not accurate". Stands by the timeline that they released.

As I said at the time, logistically it makes zero f***ing sense to have such a long lag between the agreement (on the trade) and owner approval. No sane GM would negotiate a deal and then call back his trading partner and say "well we need 72 hours to clear it with the owner".

That's just an awful and stupid way to do business JR is way too business savvy to kneecap his GM like that.

While also turning one the best pitching staffs in baseball into one of the worst.

6th in the AL in ERA in 2016, 10th in 2017, for a quick comp. I would not agree with the statement that the White Sox had "one of the best pitching staffs in baseball". It was slightly above average at best.

Whether you think it was mostly Kenny or whatever, Rick deserves plenty of blame for the mess the Sox found themselves going into this last offseason. He also deserves all the credit for those deals that are hopefully going to help us get out of the mess that he helped put us in. Point is, he can be blamed for what happened before and praised for what he has done since December.

I agree, but emphasize it's disingenuous to praise the latter without acknowledging the former.

One of the primary reasons Sale, Q and Eaton brought back the returns they did was due to the contracts Hahn negotiated with them. The man deserves the praise he is receiving.

Can we stop acting like Hahn invented the wheel with those contracts? The defending division champion who was one run from a WS title has more than 3 players signed to similar team friendly extensions. They were good deals on Hahn's part, but they're pretty common around baseball.

Rick has received a lot of credit before, then all his moves that were praised were blamed on KW. Might want to wait it out before he is anointed a baseball genius.

I will continue to have no confidence that Rick Hahn can actually put together a winning baseball team until I see it. However, if I were a franchise where say, the Padres or the Giants are right now...I would absolutely hire Rick Hahn if he were available.

Basically all of those deals looked bad for the player almost immediately. Those were fantastic signings at the perfect tine. They were 3 of the more valuable assets in all of baseball last offseason for that reason. Other teams haven't had that success. If it wasn't for those contracts, the Sox would be pretty much royally f***ed right now.

Yea other teams might have started the trend, just like other teams have done full tear downs. But Hahn, at least imo, has done it better than anybody.

Balta makes a good point about he's yet to field a good, winning club, but as far a rebuild GM Hahn is lighting up the scoreboard.

I don't remember the Sale signing looking bad for Chris at all. Given how worried everyone always has been about his arm falling off, it was a very wise move for him too.

And Adam Eaton's looks pretty good on his end today, he just happens to be on a different team.

Out of all of them, Quintana's was the one where I vaguely recall sitting back and saying "That's all?". But Jose seemed really happy that day, so why not. He went from being released in A-ball to having $25 million in the bank.

The Indians were doing this 10-12 years ago.

Benetti and Stone were talking about this a lot a few weeks back and how it was similar during a game against the Indians

Gotta love Hahn's honesty there. He's right of course. Jose hardly ever sees fastballs middle in anymore it's usually a steady diet of junk low and away. It's sapped a large amount of Jose's power. Jose is still a good player, he's just not the star we hoped he'd be after his rookie season.

And yet, his power numbers are up this season, albeit worse than his first 2 seasons. He should set a career high in doubles.

Without having looked in to it yet, I would be his launch angle is lowest this season. He seems to be more line drives and less towering HRs.

Imagine what the Indians would get for Lindor, Jose Ramirez, Brantley, Zimmer, Gomes, Encarnacion...if they auctioned all of them off. That doesn't even include "lost value/opportunity cost" with Carlos Santana and Kipnis.

Finally, throw Kluber, Carrasco, Bauer, Andrew Miller, Salazar, Cody Allen and even Clevinger on top.

Could even throw Austin Jackson and Almonte in there.

Of course, no GM or ownership group would tear apart that nucleus unless they were out of their minds, right?

Sure, there are teams out there that could auction off their talent and potentially get more because they started with more (the Indians included). That is why the Sox were never good with a superstar pitcher and well above average 2 starter and 2 boarder line stars in Eaton and Abreu. The rest of the team was s***. The Sox were in a seriously bad spot that looked like it was only going to get worse. Years of running the organization on the fly had taken its toll.

It remains to be seen if the Sox can actually put a winning product on an MLB field in the next few years. But the outlook is incredibly bright. It is truly amazing what Hahn has been able to accomplish in such a short time, IMO. And as I've already stated; the lion share of those returns reaped enormous benefits from contractual situations.

Sale should be making over $30M per year. He is an HOF caliber pitcher in his prime with generational stuff. His contract is highway robbery. Obviously Chris signed the contract and he has no choice but to collect what is still more money than any man needs. But I assure you Chris seriously regrets that decision.

Almost a situation where they should rip it up like the Royals did with the $7 million/5 year deal Sal Perez initially signed.

It was something crazy like that, maybe $8 million...
