It would take an AAV around 25 million and a number starting with "3" on the total amount.  Not happening in our wildest dreams.

You are way off here man.  Yoan isn’t even arbitration eligible until 2021.  Alex Bregman who was in the same situation last offseason essentially agreed to a 6/$100M extension.  Moncada would probably cost more because he already has $30M in the bank and might not be eager to sign away two free agent years, but there’s a number way below $300M to lock him up for the next five seasons.

He's so studly. He alone was worth trading prime Chris Sale. Anything we get from Kopech or Basabe will just be gravy.

When evaluating RH for the things we disagree with...need to remember this kind of trade is also his doing.  I particularly like his work with extensions for Sale, Q, Eaton and Anderson.  He's much better than many give him credit for.

I'm somewhere in between you guys. I think we should just enjoy him playing for the Sox for the next 3 seasons. I say 3 because there is no way in hell they should let him walk for nothing. He's going to have 5+ fWAR this year in 130 games.

I’m fully expecting them to lock him up to a five year extension this winter for something around 5/$100M.  Buys out one free agent year and allows Yoan to hit free agency as a 29 year old.  That’s a win for both sides IMO.

He defnitely is set for life acquiring Moncada and Eloy alone. They are superstars and Hahn brought them in. Eloy is 30 to 40 homers a year by just staying healthy and Moncada is overall phenomenal. With Abreu not slowing down and Anderson also a star and Gio looking for real and Robert a certain star, Hahn has to be considered a runaway success. Yes he's set for life as a GM. The weird question is with all this talent can he even get this team over .500? They have a lot of work to do to mold this into a .500 team much less win two WS before everybody leaves.

You’re the same guy that always spouts off “I just want to win baby, that’s all that matters!” That’s exactly the opposite of what Hahn has done here during his time with the White Sox, yet you claim he is “set for life” here.

In the same post you also ask if he can get the team to .500. If he can’t, then it goes without saying he isn’t anywhere close to a success.

I guess the point is, what’s wrong with you?

Maybe he truly is a less impactful Forrest Gump

But, apparently Greg put out two daughters who are studying to be surgeons of some type. He's gotta have some good intelligence genetics, right?

I said Sox should extend him back in April for 10/$200. I stand by that and I’m fairly certain that’s a number that gets it done.

I may not explain myself well. Can I please ask you something: a.) Do you agree with my assertions about the players in the post above? That they are Stars? b.) Do you also agree we're not even a .500 team for next year as it stands now? c.) Finally: Do you agree Hahn is set for life merely for acquiring such stars as I suggested? Please answer all questions. Thanx.

As an addendum, I suggest he's set for life for acquiring those once in a generation stars. I am confused, that's all, that such stars don't even guarantee a .500 team. Agree that's weird? I stand by saying the mere acquistion of those stars guarantees Hahn a job forever though. They are that good.

Those stars form the nucleus of our future powerhouse team.  Now RH has to finish building the support staff.  I have zero doubt that RH will get that done this offseason.

His season has convinced me this is a good idea.

The problem right now is that in the eyes of JR, this would be "breaking new ground" as no one has ever really signed a deal like that, and that's one thing this franchise won't do. What we really need is for someone else (Soto?) to sign a comparable deal such that this becomes a deal someone has done before. Suddenly then it's not JR reshaping the market.

But I stand by my statement that because he acquired such studs he's going to work as long as he wants in baseball front office(s) even if the team never hits .500 under his watch. You acquire players like that ... wow.

Isn’t this supposed to be Hahn’s singular area of obvious expertise as a GM, contract extensions for Sale, Q, Eaton and Anderson?

Hahn is a lawyer and worked as an agent for two years giving him a somewhat unique background in working with agents.  He is a contracts specialist rather than being a baseball guy like Kenny.  If Kenny wasn't so annoying...the partnership of a contracts guy and a baseball guy makes sense.  IMO Jerry is far more involved in the day to day than many owners...creating a 3 headed think tank.

Hahn was approached by a minimum of 3 teams to interview for their GM openings when he was assistant to KW.  He is somewhat under appreciated on this forum but the baseball world respects him.  I'm with you in that he has made some really smart moves in both trades and extensions.  He has had some missteps like everyone in that line of work.

Correct.  And I think he was directed to “compete” his first few years but of course there wasn’t enough money to supplement 3 core players

And had anyone signed an extension the size of Eloy’s before playing a single game in the majors?  JR basically broke new ground with that deal.

Didn't the White Sox reshape the market with Eloy's contract this past offseason?

Jon Singleton was the only guy, but Eloy was three times the prospect (and three times the money lol).

I wouldn't be surprised if Moncada signed an extension. He doesn't have to for reasons people have spelled out already. But I'd suspect he is comfortable here with his fellow Cubans and the organization as a whole. That would be a huge step in the right direction if they could lock him up and nab some free agent season(s) with that deal.

Does that include the bullpen?  And losing 95-100 times a year?

Being with countrymen is how the Chicago neighborhoods developed.  I think there is an excellent chance Moncada stays because of comfort being with countrymen.
