We all know that Hawkins is terrible and deserves to be released, but why, why was he so good his first year of pro ball? What happened?

Another solid reminder at how terrible the Sox have been at developing their own players

Kid is only 24. Why are the Sox cutting bait with him? Maybe is just a late bloomer lol.

Also, if you want to feel depressed look at who went after him in that draft. Seager, Wacha, Stroman, Berrios, Piscotty, just to name a few. KW and his crew had no idea what they were doing in the draft. Sale being the blind squirrel finding a nut year.

Rumor on here was they had an agreement with Stroman and changed their mind at last second after Hawkins fell in the draft

Sorry but I hate this logic. 23 teams passed on Mike Trout.

By your logic no Front office or scouting department would ever get fired. Guess what, KW and his same crew passed on Trout too. Just like they picked Hawkins over Seager. They had no idea what they were doing in the draft.

Real good guy, best wishes to him

Really wonder where it went wrong for him, granted CWS f***ed his development by rushing him

Proudly wanted either Giolito or Stroman with this pick but knew Hawkins was a KW guy

Someone will sign him, maybe he'll make it one day

Hell, look at Jose Martinez

My point is, for literally every draft, you can say, "oh, this team picked *insert bust here* over *insert player picked slightly after the bust who turned out well here*, how ridiculous!"

and his point is the sox draft picks have sucked for a decade now. you're both right.

Equally important to drafting/development (jury's still out on Getz, everything from Hostetler has been solid so far) is signing the RIGHT free agents the next couple of years.

We simply can't afford to have another repeat of that cycle of Dunn...eventually leading to Robertson, Cabrera, LaRoche, Beckham, Bonifacio, etc. And when we do bring in guys like Austin Jackson or Avila, they always seem to do better once they leave.

Definitely need to have a year like the Dye, Hermanson, Iguchi, Pierzynkski, Ozuna, El Duque free agent signings. Since then it's been a giant miss, more than a hit.
