Let's win some worthless games. I will never understand why they don't just forfeit these games in the 9th.

I mean it isn't like there are a bunch of people out there playing for their futures or anything.  It isn't like the games that get played have any effect on their job status or salaries going forward.

Yeah, Palka should have struck out on purpose last night

Sox hold the tiebreaker over both of them. Sox are #3 right now.

True, but for all intents and purposes you can look at the standings this way, and pretend everyone is playing 162:

  1. Bal
  2. KC
  3. Mia 62-96 (5)
  4. Sox 62-95
  5. SD 63-95 (4)
  6. Det 64-93 (4)
  7. Cin 66-92 (1)
  8. Tex 66-91 (1)

Sox magic numbers in parentheses.

Correct. I believe the Miami game that was PPD the other day would be the difference if the Sox and Fish finished with the same amount of wins.

This is why you look at wins. The Sox are currently 3 because if the Sox and Marlins have the same number of wins at the end of the year, the Sox get the higher pick. 62-99 is a better record than 62-100, for example.
