Blake Battenfield had himself a day.

8 IP, 3 H, 0 BB, 10 SO.

ERA down to 1.34, he came into the day with a .209 BABIP and a 89.9% LOB%, so he's been fairly lucky. But still good to see a guy put up numbers.

Since he's 23, they should probably try pushing him to see if they have anything there.

Skoug has a far worse K problem than Collins, and it's manifesting at a lower level.

31% vs 26%? Obviously Skoug is more raw and doesn't have same 1st round pedigree, but he also profiles as a low average, high OBP and plus power type of hitter. Really nice to see that BB% go up this year, and the K% is down substantially in May.

In today's chat, Kiley McDaniel flat out said he's not a catcher

I think he's probably the short side of a DH/Catcher platoon.  Sorta like how the Indians had it with Santana.  He can catch against lefties once or twice a week and DH the rest.  Could also do a 1B/DH/C.

Collins hitting like he is means you make room for his bat in the lineup.  Good problem to have.  Hope he keeps it up.

Maybe the changes that Hahn made to the minor league development team are working because if they can start tapping into the toolsy guys like Rutherford the sky is the limit.

The turn around in Micker since the beginning of last year might be the crowning achievement.

Indeed they got a lot of guys swinging well.  Really as bad as the big club is the farm has been that good.  Other than the injuries (and knock on fucking wood) almost every single guy you'd like to see crush it has crushed it.  Even the forgotten or overlooked guys like Scranton, Rose and hell even Covey have had moments where you could squint and see a useful 25 man piece.

Awesome depth and a really high end top.  Seems like they are in consideration for a #1 overall system now with Acuna graduated.  Micker has moved into the top 100 (or should have), Rutherford is back in the top 100, Eloy has moved up a spot (at min) and Kopech is holding steady in the top 10.  Hansen and Robert fall some, but not out of the top 50, or for Hansen top 75.  Collins is solid top 75 again as well.  Basabe is probably back into the 80-100 range, maybe higher on toolsy lists like Law's.

I got excited typing all that just now.  Hell yea.

Yep, so far so good.  Cease, Rutherford and Adolfo are doing exactly what you hoped they would.  Really the only thing missing from the healthy players has been power from Sheets.  Assuming Basabe is healthy, hopefully he can get it going again as his average has tailed off (power/on base still decent during that period).

31% in low A vs. 26% in AA. That's a bigger difference than just the 5 percentage points. Plus, it appears Collins has morphed into a different hitter since changing his stance in late April. He's struck out much less since that, and put up about a 1.200 OPS in that timeframe.

But he has had the same K% rate from R to AA? That difference doesn't change the fact that they have similar profile as a hitter, obviously one is a better prospect than the other.  If you want to look at the recent trends, Skoug is also sporting a 1.300 OPS since start of the month.
