No better place to start than with this...

Still not that high considering how bad this team is. I think once Baltimore deals Machado and Jones that team basically quits and they’ll pull away from the rest of the tank pack. Their in a stronger division as well.

Luca Dalatri is a name to monitor, stock is down due to injuries but earned Matt Harvey comparisons as a frosh at UNC

I like gritty Auburn 2B Will Holland too

Rutschman > Witt

Switch hitting catchers who hit around .400 in college ball and play at least adequate defense come along way less often than fast HS shortstops.

That's what it implies, playing like Shit for the rights to draft Witt.

Might want to update your signature then haha

Does anyone have the Top 5 from that BA mock?

Taking yet another middle infielder in Witt, Jr., would be....BRILLIANT.  If you have players capable of playing either SS/2B or CF all over the field, it's always a GOOD thing.

As opposed to trying to shoehorn 1B/DH types into LF/RF/3B/C.

the sox are bad but this year there are a lot of bad teams and many will get worse at the deadline. sox could get to first but teams like the tigers and padres still have some good players to trade left and could really implode in the second half after trading some guys, especially in the bullpen.

really anything from first to 6th pick is possible next draft: sox, padres, marlins, royals and tigers (despite their soldi start) are all really bad. Cincy is bad too but while their pitching is maybe the worst their hitting really underperformed the first month and should get better so that they will be in the run for the top picks too but maybe not that bad. maybe texas or baltimore implodes and trades a few guys but I think those mentioned six should be the top candidates.

mlb is really crowded in sucking again this year.

Baltimore will be TERRIBLE TERRIBLE TERRIBLE once they jettison Britton, Brach, Machado and Adam Jones.

Texas should be there at the bottom...they have some interesting decisions to make in terms of eventual direction as an organization.

Reds have tough competition in the same division as Cubs/Brewers/Cards (Reyes injury a killer)...that should keep them down.

SF would have looked to be on this list, but they held in there so far without Bumgarner so who knows, maybe they're adding.

A's would have LOOKED to be on this list but are also surprisingly "sort of contending" but are obviously more future-oriented with the Kyler Murray draft selection w/ the 9th pick.

btw I'm sceptical about the prep guys mentioned. at the start of the season it is always prep guys mocking high. Before last year anyone talked about hunter greene and this draft it was turang and de sedas.

Teams increasingly shy away from prep guys, especially prep pitchers because you have more data and the bust risk is lower and teams nowadays often look more at floor than ceiling.

Unless it is an exceptional prep guy (like harper) prep guys are usually falling late in the process while college performers rise. Maybe witt is such a guy but in the end teams will probably again think "we like him but he played against crappy competition and we will take the guy who performed in SEC against top pitching" and this is if he hits well his final year - if he doesn't he could also drop like de sedas.

At 4-5 the top prep guys could be in play again but at the top3 it might be all college guys again.

  1. Orioles (18-41) - Bobby Witt Jr., SS, Heritage HS, Colleyville, Texas.
  2. White Sox (19-39) - Adley Rutschman, C, Oregon State
  3. Reds (21-40) - Hunter Barco, LHP, The Bolles School, Jacksonville

Re his first 2018 Mock Draft done in June 2017. So while mocks are interesting, there will be enormous player movement up and down draft boards.

Witt, Jr. is pretty clearly the best high school player in the country (for the moment) and there’s nearly-universal scouting agreement on his possessing five tools...

As far as our OSU studs go, let’s see how he does next year when you strip away a group of their 5 best juniors/seniors.

Can he keep performing offensively at that same level, and continue to improve his defense?

At any rate, having Madrigal on board, they’ll (seemingly) have the best insights of any organization on whether to draft one of his former teammates or not.

The Orioles, Marlins, and Reds are the serious threats right now. The Orioles are going to be really bad once Machado is gone.
