Which player is he wrong about?

All three.

There were other players that were worse today.

Murphy and Carlsson among them. I generally like Murphy but he had a bad game.

The Toews line was getting dominated as well.

Was nice of DeBrincat to finally show up after the 1st period.

The Leafs were that close in winning the #1 pick.

I've watched this like 100x on loop and still can't figure out how people were able to make that out. I guess it looks kinda blue?

Just because Murphy, Debrincat and Carlsson (who's a nobody in general and ALWAYS sucks which is why he's typically watching from the pressbox) had bad games doesn't mean the other 3 aren't ass

I mean, the guy had the lowest ice time of any player last night, and was still a -2.....

Yes, lets use +/- instead of Corsi and Fenwick to describe how players played. 🤣

Using +/- is the hockey equivalent of using BA and RBI in baseball.

Cat and Kampf were the only break even players on the damn team.

Well, that game was the Hawks chance to steal one and make it a series. Unfortunately they just came short.

I miss the days when the Hawks could stand up to a team like Vegas. Our top players are pretty good, but Hossa, prime Seabrook, Hjalmarsson, Sharp and others just pushed that team over the top. We don't have that anymore.

Just another team now. Maybe these young guys can grow into newer versions of our old core... but it'd be really, really nice to have a new "Keith" and a new "Seabrook". Sort of why I was hoping the Hawks would have drafted Bowen Byrum as he was the top rated defenseman in the draft.

Hossa is the guy they really miss.  He did so much dirty work, on top of his insane skill level.  They just don't win many board battles anymore.

Vegas looked a lot like the vintage Hawks. Big, strong and fast while being able to control the puck for what seemed like most of the game. They are on another level (or two) from the current Hawks, just is what it is right now.

The amazing thing about this series is honestly the Hawks are hanging with them. If it wasn't for Crawford's shit play and a few goal posts, this series would be even. Vegas is definitely the better team (Hell I picked Vegas in 6) but I did not think the games would be this close between the two teams.

Oh and watching Kirby Dach is just a treasure. That kid is going to be a problem in the Central for years to come and I love it.

It would be nice to get a win today. Hawks played well yesterday but failed to capitalize on some chances. That post hit by Kane was a killer.

I disagree. The EDM series was exactly what I didn't want to happen- false hope for the idiotic front office and doofus coach + missing out on a shot at the #1 pick. Let them be swept vs LV so hopefully some heads roll (note: they probably won't regardless)

They wouldn't of won it anyways (that's why I said to Parkman to breathe easy cause the Oilers had the Hawks position in the draft). Them dropping from 10th to 17th (or 16th depending on Montreal beating Philly) isn't that dramatic. Unless a guy like Lucas Raymond for example slips to 10th, most of the prospects in that range are around the same.

No worries because you have to look at the bright side. They'll have a chance at the #1 pick in 2022 when they let Crawford leave this offseason and sign one of the bad FA's available/allow Subban to play all season.

They can maybe push this 6 games but I will be shocked if this goes 7 games. Still though great effort by the boys. Crawford went god mode, Maatta, Caggiula and DeBrincat (despite not scoring with a goalie in net) played very well and Kirby fucking Dach is getting murdered out there and is still going. God I love that kid. Hopefully he won't need surgery on his hand/wrist with all the slashes he's had.

Oh... and fuck Max Pacioretty. Dirty little fuck.

Continue to crap all over Nylander when Toews and Kane haven't showed up the entire series.

Hawks have bigger issues than Nylander. Quit scapegoating him when two guys making $21M have been almost as bad.

Point the finger where it belongs.

Those two have played a part in 5 goals. Nylander has played a part in nothing. Point wasn't to necessarily crap all over just Nylander, it was to crap all over him for being absolutely terrible and Colliton for not only continuing to trot him out there over and over despite the aforementioned pathetic play but doing it at a pace that through 2 periods his TOI was greater than Toews, etc

I'm not even saying Nylander has been good(he hasn't) but he's been meh for the most part and you guys continue acting like he's some beer league player.

Quit acting like Jokiharju is Nicklas Lidstrom to fit your narrative.

Both you and Tony had your mind made up before he ever played a game for the Hawks. Confirmation bias much?

Nylander has his issues but the only reason why I defend him is that there's this disease among the Hawks fanbase that somehow nobody can watch a game without trashing him. Fanbase is a bunch of idiots. Kid isn't completely useless out there, he's just meh. Nylander has not deserved the amount of hate that he's received from the fanbase. He does a lot of little things that help hockey teams win games but all you guys can see is his rookie mistake on any given shift. He's not doing much offensively, and yes, he's disappointed there.

The good clear, you miss. The strong forecheck, you miss. The zone entries, you miss. The good keep in, you miss.

Watch the kid a bit without bias and you'll notice these things.

No one said he's Lidstrom. They said for an organization that can't seem to identify defensive talent anymore, it sure was a weird trade, especially for another fast forward who struggles with consistency. Doesn't that sound just like Nylander?

Let's say our minds were made up before he ever played for the team. What exactly has he done to prove us wrong? He knows how to clear a puck? Yikes. If that's what you're hanging your hat on, it sounds like you're giving up.

Literally multiple people last night were crushing his play and crushing Colliton's decision to play him as much as he did... so what it sounds like is while our minds were made up that he blows before he ever took the ice here, your mind was made up that he's good and will never suck. He sucks, dude. It's ok to admit you were wrong. I was wrong on Trubisky being average. I was wrong on Giolito being dogshit. It's fine to admit that Nylander is horrific.

No, I was hopeful that he'd be good. Nylander has disappointed even me. I like to watch the game with my eyes, idk about you. Nylander is one of the more defensively responsible forwards on the Hawks, who are devoid of defensively responsible forwards. He's probably the best skater out of all of the Hawks forwards.  Maybe the offense will come, maybe it won't. Right now, Nylander is a 30 pt/82 guy who is defensibly responsible. That's a solid 3rd liner. He was not acquired for that purpose, but he's not completely useless either. He hasn't done anything in the playoffs, but who has. Outside of a couple games the entire team has played like crap. Nobody on the Hawks should be immune to criticism, so it's not fair to single out Nylander. When Nylander was acquired I expected a flashy offensive player who was lazy on D. So far he's been the complete opposite.

You can harp on Bowman for trading for Nylander, however I think you take that gamble (guy with with a high ceiling/low floor for guy with high floor/low ceiling) 10/10 times. That's my philosophy. It didn't work. You win some, you lose some. Bowman lost with Perlini too, but that was also worth the gamble. I wonder if Bowman will bail on Nylander as quickly as he did on Perlini. If he did, I wouldn't blame him. Also, when you make that gamble and it doesn't work bail asap, so some sucker gives you something of value in return. It's like going to the Casino with $100 and leaving with $60. You still lost but you didn't lose everything.

You're so full of shit, you don't even know what side you're on anymore.

So Nylander is a solid third liner and has been OK for the Hawks.......or the Hawks should bail on him and Bowman wouldn't be wrong for doing it? You yourself just said the gamble didn't work. So which is it?

BlandSphericalImago-small.gif

Those two opinions are not mutually exclusive.

Nylander is a solid 3rd liner, but he plays best with North-South KISS players. The Hawks don't have a lot of those. It's a square peg/round hole issue.

I'm fine with him getting traded just so you and everyone else would STFU.

Ahhhhhh, so now Nylander's issues aren't his own....but we should blame them on the other players around Nylander. It's the Blackhawks fault he sucks.

Got it, glad we cleared that up.

Teravainen didn't fit here either. Neither did Kempny. Both went on to be decent players elsewhere.

Not saying TT and Nylander are the same quality of player, but you get the picture. Sometimes it's just a bad fit.

I will admit you could be right and he just sucks. However, there are much bigger fish to fry with this roster than Nylander. He's like 10th on the list of Hawks roster issues, and that is and always has been my point. So quit scapegoating him, and point the finger in the proper direction.

BTW I'm starting to see why some of you have been critical of Bowman. He's acquired a lot of talented players in a vacuum but the whole is less than the sum of its parts. It's like he's putting a team together in NHL 20 and not real life. Too many square pegs and round holes.
