Giolito doesn't believe in his stuff. He's scared to challenge hitters.

Well yeah his stuff is subpar, despite what JParkman believes

I didn't think it was 40 wrong calls. Some of those were on the edges, IIRC

Benetti even quoted the stat when it was 30, and confirmed it was pitches out of the zone according to statcast.

It took me ten minutes of listening to the Cooper podcast with Chuck to realize why Cooper needs to go. He said he doesn't care if our pitchers strike out hitters.  In today's baseball, you need that.  What a heartless effort by Lucas.

Nah. He's got good stuff when he's throwing the ball and not trying to aim the ball. Stuff isn't his problem. It's all in his head.

I agree with you, but at the end of the day he needs to earn the umps’ respect on close calls and until then he needs to protect the plate.  I may be Moncada’a biggest supporter on this board, but doing nothing will not solve the problem.

If we’re talking about pitches that are actually close (40-60% called strikes) then sure. But that 1-1 pitch was a ball 89% of the time.

again, before anyone else takes this out of context, I am not blaming his slump on umpires

Giolito is a fucking headcase.

Why in the living hell was he not from the windup?  He's sucked all year from the stretch.

Every metric says his pitch quality sucks

The joys of rebuilding. The sad thing is next year is gonna be just as painful most likely

If Gio is pitching like this next year, then time to cut bait on him.

If you're judging the quality of "stuff" by metrics, and not with your eye, you're already behind. You only like pitchers that throw 98+ and he doesn't.
