Yep. Straddling phase 1/2 is correct. I guess you could say that they are at phase 1.5. Gotta keep playing the young kids and see what you have. Sucks to say, but winning games shouldn't be much of a priority yet for the Sox. Still need a couple more top 5 picks to supplement the "core".

Agreed. #3 pick this June and a likely top 5 pick again next June combined with hitting the INT market again and dealing the last few expiring veteran contracts over the next 18 months (Rodon, Abreu, Colome, Herrera, etc) should inject another nice round of minor league reinforcements as Kopech, Jimenez, Cease, Madrigal, and Robert start to graduate.

Except the problem with that is so much of the core will be nearing the last years of their contracts from 2021-23 that they’ll simply be in a perpetual state of rebuilding like the A’s or Rays...

The first wave yes but not the second (current top 5 prospects) and third waves (#3 pick this June, top 5 pick next June, prospects acquired via trade next 18 months, INT market, etc).

We’re doing it again...drafting all collegiate players at the top of the first round in the hopes that we can quickly push them up to big leagues in order to cover up existing holes we’re unwilling to fix in FA, such as 3B and RF, to name two.

I wouldn’t say they’ve rushed anyway at this point. Moncada might be the only one you could argue, maybe, but who else has been rushed? If anything they’ve done the opposite of that (see Eloy).

Madrigal at the moment...Burdi...their next two first rounders, etc.

I’ll be shocked if Robert isn’t pushed fast as well, if he can stay healthy.

Madrigal will be up next year at age 23 if he succeeds this year in the minors. How is that rushed? Same for Robert, except Robert is 5 months younger so maybe he comes up summer 2020. How long do you want to wait on these guys if they are performing in the minors?

Can you imagine WS fans waiting 6 or 7 years for the rebuild to show results?

Phase 3 will be signing and trading for veterans, and that phase could start as soon as November of this year, with both Phase 2 and Phase 3 continuing concurrently for a couple of years.

Phase 4 will be the contender phase, where the team will be poised for a playoff spot, and Phase 5 will be sustained success, where all 5 phases are occurring simultaneously and feeding each other.

Phases 3 and 4 should be the same; you trade for vets when you know you can contend.  Phase 5 depends on drafting/development/evaluation and there's not much evidence that it has improved from where it's been most of the last 2 decades.

Hopefully Phase 3/4 is a roaring success.
