White Sox Claim Ian Clarkin from Cubs

The Sox may have success getting him through waivers later.

He passed through the entire AL and most of the NL before the Cubs could make the claim.  He then lasted through the entire NL for the Sox to make a claim back.

So good chance the Sox should be able to get him through in the next couple weeks unless the Cubs want to nab him again.

In all seriousness it means the Sox believe in him enough to still hold up another 40 man roster slot for him.  They obviously want to slide him through waivers, but are apparently willing to put him on the 40 to hold on to him.

Pretty sure he'll either be claimed again  or clear waivers and removed from 40 man prior to the Winter Meetings.

Agreed! The Sox must see potential and he originally was a top pick

This is pretty bizarre. If they wanted him on the 40, they could have put him on revocable waivers, and pulled him back if he was claimed. So... why go through all this? I honestly cannot fathom a scenario it makes sense, unless they put him on irrevocable waivers by mistake (or maybe the rules changes and minor leaguers on the 40 cannot do revocable?).

You can't keep him on the 40 really as he is nowhere ready. Problem is that last year even his control - supposedly his strength  wasn't good with 4 bb/9 which is essentially the same as cease and kopech last year with the difference that they have stuff and don't need command like Kershaw to make it work while clarkin needs  to walks less than 2 to be a big league option even as a spot starter/rescue relief innings eater.

Now clarkin probably still has better command than kopech and part of the walks was him avoiding the zone and trying to get batters to chase but this is because his over the plate stuff gets shelled and he has to live essentially on the "black". Against big league hitters that will be worse even because they will just wait for him to throw over the plate and crush it.

Now if he really developes 70 command he could be a mediocre  back end innings eater but he isn't there yet.
