Ruiz. He's generally considered a top 40 prospect, where India isn't even on many top 100 lists.

I knew the latter but with guys that were drafted last summer the rankings are often all over the map, Madrigal outside of Law's top 100 and in the top 50 elsewhere for example. Thanks for the feedback.

For those who know other systems better - if the Dodgers wanted to beat an offer involving India, would there be any way for them to do it without Verdugo?

I'll go with dirtysox 's suggestion of Ruiz.

If you ranked him against India which one would be considered a better get for the Marlins?

Hope you don't mind me throwing in my two cents.

IMHO, for the Marlins to pass on a 20 year old catcher with his tools that raked at AA would be insane. Nothing against Verdugo, would love to have him but Ruiz is easily the bigger prize. Then again the Marlins did draft Kolek...

The marlins shouldn't do the deal without one of greene or senzel. India is a nice prospect but if the package is india and a couple 45s it would be disappointing similar to the yelich deal.

Fair point, but only 2 years of control? The Padres have been trying for assurances of an extension.

The good thing is that the reds mostly traded for players at the right side of 30.

If the whole thing fails they can sell those pieces for prospects again which makes it a pretty low risk move.

Preller did the same with the Padres, traded a lot of prospects away but when it didn't work quickly re sold and still had a monster system.

But the money for Wil Myers and Hosmer and $27.5 million in dead contracts still means the only way they can afford a Machado is dumping Myers...essentially.

They’ve also raised their fWAR by over 9 this offseason, the most of any team in the Central by far.

But the two year timeframe for Realmuto doesn’t really make make sense for the Padres without Machado...would anyone be on board giving up Cease and Robert for a two year Realmuto rental?   Even Cease and Dunning?

Maybe Dunning and Collins (both are already connect to Florida/Miami), might have to throw in an outfield prospect , too.

I know someone was saying the Padres wanted to negotiate an extension with realmuto first. I  don't really see that happening but, Sonny Gray just did with the reds.  So who knows?

Well no, but the padres have shown that they are capable of supplementing their talent through draft and (especially) LatAm whereas the white sox haven't proved that yet so maybe it's worth it to them (especially if they prioritize re-signing).

Hahn helped him.

Hell no. Cease is flat out untouchable for me unless you’re getting back a budding star with loads of control.
