Had an interesting find at a Goodwill near me. Tenacious D The Complete Master Works on DVD but the kicker is that it looks like it was autographed by Jack Black and Kyle Gass on the front artwork under each of their pictures with a silver paint pen .

Now that is a Cool find, congrats.

“Air” was great

A lot of critics are ruing the absence of someone portraying Michael Jordan, but I think the absence of him forces the focus on the other members of the cast, like Bateman, Deloris Jordan, Falk, etc.

Seeing those names on the draft board brought back memories, especially Dinner Bell Mel Turpin.

Easy to forget Stockton and Barkley were in that class as well as Hakeem of course.

Wasn't a huge fan of Chris Tucker's casting, but he was fine all in all.

Everyone who grew up in the 80's will appreciate the soundtrack and plethora of product placements.

Saw Evil Dead Rise on Saturday.  Best horror movie I've seen in a long time.  I'm a huge fan of the Evil Dead series, and this one stands up well against the original and Evil Dead 2.

After a brief intro, that we quickly find out is a bit in the future, the movie gets to its setting (an apartment building in LA).  There was some character introductions and quick plot build-up before the horror starts about 25 minutes into the runtime.  What follows is relentless horror, dread, and gore until the end.  Plenty of jump scares and "look out behind you" moments are peppered with some great comedy (albeit dark comedy).

I'm glad I saw it in the theater (I dragged my 18 year old daughter along).  It was so cool hearing the gasps, screams, and "oh my god"s along with seeing people jump and cover their faces.

If you're a horror fan, and if you like the Evil Dead series, you'll like Evil Dead Rise.  I recommend seeing it in the theater.

The Marvels feels like a total dud...there were less than five patrons at the theatre in China for a 7 pm Fri night showing just hours ago.

Just not event openings any longer.

Felt more like a spinoff tv show with zero emotional investment.

People are absolutely shitting on this movie online.

The Marvels

Disney’s superhero sequel posted by far the worst opening in the 15-year history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) with only $47.0M.

That’s -15% below the prior worst: 2008’s The Incredible Hulk ($55.4M), only the MCU’s second installment, which came out before the franchise reached its future levels of cultural ubiquity.

The Marvels also opens -34% below 2021’s Eternals ($71.2M), often cited (before this weekend, at least) as the MCU’s biggest underperformer in its “modern” era.

Put another way, The Marvels could finish with a final domestic total less than the opening weekend for 2019’s predecessor Captain Marvel: $153.4M.

Compared to Marvel’s rival DC Comics, The Marvel also opens below some other recent DC Extended Universe underperformers: -14% below June’s The Flash with $55.0M and -29% below 2022’s Black Adam with $67.0M.

The new Ghostbusters was pretty forgettable. It did not stack up at all to Afterlife.

Must depend on the audience, my 9 year old said she loved it and even my brooding 12 year old son who doesn't like anything enjoyed it.
