No getting paid what the market determines your worth is not greed.  And he shouldn’t take a penny less- in your view is taking less charity?

I think that you missed my point. Yes, Manny and his agents want the most money, that they can get and ownership of the various bidding teams wants the least expensive contract, that Manny is willing to sign. Both sides will be motivated by "greed". However, so what? That's the way it works. I agree with you. Neither side is expected to be charitable. It's business.

The pressure should be on the White Sox. Red Sox, Yankees, Cubs, Dodgers, all out. If they were ever going to sign one, now is the time. Fail now, chances are they fail down the road when the big boys get more involved.

I think this post is almost wordfor word what was said in CespedesTalk

Striking out on Cespedes and Gordon certainly was a blessing in disguise.

Didn't it turn out that the Sox weren't seriously trying to sign Cespedes but went after Gordon instead?

That sounds very much like how I recall it. They had a serious offer for Gordon and not really for any of the other OFs, I believe they had a higher offer out than KC did and at the end KC put a little more money in to make it close and he stayed there. And in the end, the only OF worth signing out of all 4 of the ones available that offseason was Upton, who the Sox showed no interest in.

I still don’t think signing Cespedes in 2016 would have been bad. If the Sox wanted to compete in 2016 which they claim they did, he was clearly necessary (that was born out).

Obviously signing him to the 1 year 2016 deal would have been ideal, but maybe away from the Mets brutal injury luck, their insane need to play him in CF so much, maybe the Sox could have gotten more out of him.

Same basic problem - talent of a 70 win team, thought they were 1 player away from winning 95. Cespedes woulda made them better, but their #4 and #5 starters were still Mat Latos and John "Shoulder fell apart" Danks, they had no depth when Petricka and Putnam got hurt, Jimmy Rollins was their starting SS, etc. Roster was a couple of legit players and then Ricky trying to patch over gaping holes. Even with Cespedes, and the scenario where the White Sox keep him healthier, they were totally outgunned by actual good teams.

Sure but it wouldn’t have been this bad signing people hype it up to be, and the contract is not that hard to move has the Mets not metsd him

any news in the last 24 hours?

No, there is a report based on a rumor that Yankees offer WAS 7years 220mil.

Hector insists Sox offered 8years, 250mil.

It could be Sox offer is still on the table as the highest one, waiting to see who blinks first.

I thought the Yanks were out... LOL

They are.

Unless they completely change their minds and go all out which no one would know that. Especially not the supposed insiders on twitter that are claiming to be hearing that the Yankees are going to get either Mm or Harper.
