If we’re really β€œgoing for it” what about trading for Greinke? Β At $30M+ per, he’d likely be a salary dump.

Hell, trade for Ben Zobrist. Report came out they are looking to trade him so they can have room for a middle reliever.Β

Let’s say we sign Machado, trade for Joc, and add one more starter:

Do we still wait two weeks to promote Eloy? It might be short sighted as far as his control goes, but we could potentially contend in this weak division, and two weeks of less production from LF might be a difference maker. Not sure how I feel honestly, but is this even a possibility (thatΒ Eloy breaks camp with us)?

Not a possibility at all.Β

No chance we start the season with Eloy and lose a full season over the first two weeks of 2019 when the weather is going to be crappy anywaysΒ

If it's just a trade for pederson I'm expecting we will have to give up something more, in that case, I have no logical reason why the W'sox want to do the trade unless their just giving up bummer/fulmer or something.

I think this is the case and that’s why I don’t think anyone should have a problem with this trade if/when it happens.Β

That team still isn't competitive without big steps forwards by multiple youngsters who struggled last year...but anyway...

The Cubs, with a much better roster, still held Bryant down in 2015. No one regrets it.

I'm disapointed that Hill isn't part of the trade. If this was a salary dump + we got pederson it makes a good deal of sense.

Also, why would the Dodgers want to do this? It doesn't really help them financially - and for what a couple of controllable relievers?

Another completely non-baseball reason it won't happen: if we wait to bring him up then there will be a random game in April with increased attendance (potentially a sell out?) that would otherwise be pretty empty while the home opener will likely have a high attendance no matter what.Β

Agreed. Pederson has flaws and is soon an FA, but that’d basically be getting him for free. Go for it. How’s his defense?

Also, I haven’t read this whole thread. Is this close? Some people are talking like it’s already happened...

And why wouldn’t Braves be all over it if price was so low? Β If Sox get him, it will be for a much bigger price than most think on here IMO. Β

The kid who reported this originally thinks it gets done soon and said there’s a sense of urgency today that wasn’t there last nightΒ

I have no knowledge of the financials for the Dodgers, but I'd imagine that they'd bundle up a pricey Rich Hill with Pederson for a salary dump to make room for Pollock (consider the pollock rumors yesterday).

Probably because it wasnt widespread news that Joc was available and now it is, so the Sox are in a hurry to get it done. Also, Pollock is probably waiting on LA.

make room for pollock/provide outfield clarity. Joc is the odd man out there

They are ridiculously left handed with their options (Bellinger, Toles, Verdugo, Joc), makes sense.
