Not to beat a dead horse, but the Indians’ front office is leagues ahead of ours.

Not sure how you can say this. The current people in charge took over for Shapiro in 2015.

The people in charge now have done next to nothing to improve the team. Most of the acquisitions were made by Shapiro.

Weather looks good Thursday throughout baseball.

High 60s scattered storms in KC

Probably lucked out both Chicago teams on the road, as Thursday-Saturday could be rainy.

Right now April 4 says 49, but that’s too far away.

Baseball does everything in their power to keep northern teams from playing home games the first week.

No offense, but you’re totally wrong here.  The current president of baseball operations was the GM under Shapiro and served in that role from 2010 to 2015.  The current GM was the assistant GM previously during the same exact time period.  Both guys have been with the organizations for 10+ years and played integral roles in the acquisition of their current talent base.

As for not improving the team, the team has significant financial limitations despite a strong run of on-field success. Is Theo a bad front office executive because he’s essentially done nothing to improve the Cubs this offseason?

They are slow motion blowing up a perpetual playoff team.  Then again, there is no worse fan base in baseball, outside of maybe Oakland.

I don’t think you can blame the front office for that.  To your point, the fanbase sucks, they don’t benefit from a great TV deal, and Dolan isn’t like Pizza Man and going to take huge losses.  The front office has to work within the means they are given.

Not really. Games in Minneapolis, Philadelphia, New York, Washington on Thursday. And Pittsburgh and Cleveland next Monday.

There arent enough teams to keep everything south.

If you counted domed stadiums there would be enough, but the southern teams don't want that. They know that their home games are better attended in May-August also, they don't want to be stuck with extra games in April just to bail out Chicago.

Shapiro was running shop there. I don't think there was any secret to that. Shapiro was making the calls. Let's see what the new leadership does. So far, it hasn't been much since his departure.

Cleveland's poor cry is the same bs as any other mlb team that cries poor.

I read somewhere that keeping more April games in warm weather cities has been a focal point of baseball scheduling for a few years.

edit: Looks like this was something they looked into doing, but didn't fully implement. I stand corrected.

Well nobody wants a bunch of rain/cold/snow outs to start the season but at the same time as @Balta1701 noted the southern teams don't want to have a top heavy late march and April schedule either so they usually compromise like it appears they've done this year.

That said, weather looks good this year mostly.  Thank god!  Baseball is not meant to be played or watched below 50 or so degrees.   Here in Seattle we've had a crazy winter and now start to spring with record cold and now record heat and finally more normal seasonal temps.

Should be in the mid 50s, maybe slightly colder, for the 4pm game here against the Red Sox.  Should be a fine afternoon to play and the roof open.

Our ownership and FO is bad but it could be worse. Yikes

Indians still control Lindor for the next three seasons, I feel the uproar is totally overblown.

The team very well could end up extending him in a season or two, you never know?

Cleveland is not going to extend either of those guys nor should they. Their fans will be annoyed. Both of those are true and acceptable.

They could. They won't.

As I've suggested in the past, "pay them" from the MLB Central Fund for the "trouble" of having to sacrifice to make things better for fans. Fans shouldn't have to sit through 38 degree weather to watch a game and you have a higher injury risk with really cold weather (hamstrings etc...)

The better solution would be to cut the season down and start playing actual DH's again but that of course makes to much sense and owners love their $$$$$

I forgot who it was, it was either Seattle or Toronto or Milwaukee, but last season was the first time they had opened the season at home in something like 10 years even though they had a roof. I was watching a game on MLBN, and they were so happy they got to open at home. Especially now that the season starts in March, let the dome and warmer weather teams have the first week at home. Opening Day is always big, but it's even bigger when it's actually the first game of the season. The weather obviously can be anything in April, but one week can make a huge difference.

One week does have the potential to make a difference only by luck of the draw.  A 7 day difference this time of year at our latitude it’s flip a coin time. The main thing they should always do- as long as there are divisions, try to schedule division games that can be made up later on, and for non-division, then try to make those domes or warmer climates.

I’m just happy we aren’t getting a repeat of 2018. That really cut into attendance and was a mess for a lot of teams.

According to Forbes, the Indians still made $31 million in 2018.  That is without all of the off of the books stuff that we know exists.  They are also on the low end of the debt to equity equation which means they aren't drowning in debt like other teams.

The Indians are not poor.  In fact they pulled in more revenue than the White Sox did in 2018.

Apparently, they spend their money a lot more wisely than Hahn does.

And are shutting down a playoff contending team.

We’ll see.  They could easily win the Central as they currently stand.

Since 2007, the Indians have won 4 Central Division titles and 1 Wild Card berth.

Since 2007, the White Sox have won 1 Central Division title.

The Indians have obviously spend money a lot more wisely than the Sox in recent years.

Which still has nothing to do with dismantling an active playoff team.  Think of it this way.  The Sox missed out on the top free agent because they were cheap after a 100 loss season.  The Indians are actively shopping their best players because they are cheap after a 91 win season.
