Just add 2 years, $25mill per year at the end of the deal and the Sox would have likely been fine. It's disingenuous to talk about the contract in aggregate when the total is spread-out over some number of years. It's just more double-talk to make their argument sound more rational. Hell, $6M today doesn't even get us an Alonso or a Nova. In 10y, $6MM might not even get you Adam Engle. Making it sound like this is a make-or-break detail in the negotiation is insulting.
